Prediction of rank deficiency in partition of unity-based methods with plane triangular or quadrilateral meshes

In the partition of unity (PU)-based methods, the global approximation is built by multiplying a partition of unity by local approximations. Within this framework, high-order approximations are achieved by directly adopting high-order polynomials as local approximations, and therefore nodes along sides or inside elements, which are usually adopted in the conventional finite element methods, are no more required. However, the PU-based approximation constructed in this way may suffer from rank deficiency due to the linear dependence of the global degrees of freedom. In this paper, the origin of the rank deficiency in the PU-based approximation space is first dissected at an element level, and then an approach to predict the rank deficiency for a mesh is proposed together with the principle of the increase of rank deficiency. Finally, examples are investigated to validate the present approach. The current work indicates such a fact that the rank deficiency is an unrelated issue to the nullity of the global matrix. It can be resolved in its own manner.

Synthesis of Single-Crystalline Silicon Nitride Nanobelts Via Catalyst-Assisted Pyrolysis of a Polysilazane

Recently, one-dimensional nanostructures have attracted extensive attention since they are potentially important for both applications and fundamental research. In this paper, we report the synthesis of ultra-long single crystal Si₃N₄ nanobelts via catalyst-assisted pyrolysis of polymeric precursors. The obtained products contain both α- and β-Si₃N₄ nanobelts, which are 50–100 nm in thickness, 400–1000 nm in width, and a few hundreds of micrometers to several millimeters in length. Different from previous techniques for synthesizing one-dimensional structures, the current nanobelts are synthesized through confined crystallization of an amorphous phase. A solid–liquid–gas–solid reaction/crystallization growth mechanism is proposed. The formation of nanobelts instead of nanowires is attributed to the anisotropy growth at an earlier stage.

Inadequacy of Land Use and Impervious Area Fraction for Determining Urban Stormwater Quality

Urban stormwater quality is multifaceted and the use of a limited number of factors to represent catchment characteristics may not be adequate to explain the complexity of water quality response to a rainfall event or site-to-site differences in stormwater quality modelling. This paper presents the outcomes of a research study which investigated the adequacy of using land use and impervious area fraction only, to represent catchment characteristics in urban stormwater quality modelling. The research outcomes confirmed the inadequacy of the use of these two parameters alone to represent urban catchment characteristics in stormwater quality prediction. Urban form also needs to be taken into consideration as it was found have an important impact on stormwater quality by influencing pollutant generation, build-up and wash-off. Urban form refers to characteristics related to an urban development such as road layout, spatial distribution of urban areas and urban design features.

吴江市实施“两集中、三到位”后,水行政许可工作水平得到明显提升,水行政许可职能得以理顺,使审批事项更为集中,审批流程更加优化,缩短了审批所需时间,提高了行政效能,优化了队伍结构,提升了服务水平.但针对水行政许可工作中存在的一些问题,仍需加强沟通和宣传,加大后续监管力度,不断进行制度创新,使之与水利现代化建设相适应.     

乡村居民疫水接触时空规律研究

基于农村居民疫水接触的空间行为及作息时间的地理调查,了解乡村居民的血吸虫病疫水接触时空规律,对43个行政村的疫水接触人数、方式、天数、接触季节和时间段进行调查。农村居民疫水接触方式有种田、捕鱼、游泳、抗洪、挖沙、打藜蒿、放牛、养鸭和洗衣服洗菜一共9种方式,接触方式多、时间长,感染血吸虫病危险性较大。     

Effect of polycarboxylate-type superplasticizer on the paste fluidity based on the water film thickness of flocs

The excess water film theory and the properties of flocs are integrated to examine the effect of the polycarboxylate-type superplasticizer on the paste fluidity.The theory states that excess water can surround the flocs rather than the particles and that the cell consists of a floc and a superficial water film.Experiments on limestone powder pastes were conducted to verify the theory.The superplasticizer dosage(sp%)and the water–powder ratio by volume(Vw/Vp)were systematically varied.A sedimentation balance method was used to measure the size distribution of the flocs in the limestone powder pastes.The water film thickness(WFT)of flocs was then calculated and shown to determine the paste fluidity.Based on this WFT of flocs,the effect of the sp on the paste fluidity was determined and then compared with the effect of water.
