Size dependent static and dynamic behavior of a fully clamped micro beam under electrostatic and piezoelectric actuations is investigated. The microbeam is modeled under the assumptions of Euler–Bernoulli beam theory. Viscous damping and nonlinearities due to electrostatic actuation and mid-plane stretching are considered. Residual stress and fringing field effect are taken into account as well. Governing equation of motion is derived using Hamilton’s principle along with the strain gradient theory (SGT), which is a non-classical continuum theory capable of taking size effect of elastic materials into account. Reduced order model of the partial differential equations of the system is obtained using Galerkin method. Static deflection, pull-in voltage and the primary resonance of the microbeam are examined and the effect of piezoelectric voltage and its polarization on the size dependent static and dynamic response is studied. It is found that the piezoelectric voltage can effectively change the flexural rigidity of the system which in turn affects the pull-in instability regime. The effect of material length scale parameter is examined by comparing the results of the SGT with the modified couple stress (MCST) and classical theory (CT), both of which are special cases of the former. Comparison demonstrates that the CT underestimates the stiffness and consequently the pull-in voltage and overestimates the amplitude of periodic solutions. The difference between the results of classical and non-classical theories becomes more and more as the dimensions of the system gets close to the length scale parameter. Non-classical theories predict more realistic behaviors for the micro system. The results of this paper can be used in designing microbeam based MEMS devices. 相似文献
In the present work, a phase field damage model is developed to address the numerical simulation of brittle fracture. This model successfully captures some important aspects of crack propagation, including crack branching and bifurcation. In addition, the proposed phase field model has been developed in the general framework of anisotropic elasticity. It can thus be used for the simulation of brittle fracture in polycrystalline materials, for which crack propagation is impacted by crystallographic orientation because of the anisotropic character of stiffness properties. 相似文献
2D and 3D beam synthesis from different antenna array arrangements are investigated in this paper. Planar sunflower, conformal cylinderical and spherical helical array arrangements are studied. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is used to predict the phase distribution on the array elements. The beam synthesis is achieved by comparing the array factor with a predetermined mask with both upper and lower limits according to the intented application requirements. Different 2D and 3D masks are used in beam synthesis as pencil, flat-top, and cosecant single beam are predicted. The planar sunflower antenna array is investigated due to its high gain, low side-lobe level (SLL) below ??20 dB and its compact size. The phase distribution of sunflower array is estimated using PSO to radiate dual-beams in different planes. Dual-beam with pencil, flat-top, and cosecant beams are obtained with different half-power beam widths. 3D conformal antenna arrays of cylindrical and spherical helical arrangements are studied. Each 3D conformal array consists of four arms shifted in position by 90° orintation angle. Each arm is designed to radiate single beam in a specific direction. Four-beams are considered to radiate in the directions of θ1,2,3,4?=?30°, and ?1?=?0°, ?2?=?90°, ?3?=?180°, and ?4?=?270° with SLL optimized below ??17 dB. The array arrangements analysis is based on the array theory formulation, through the implemention of the estimiated equation using a home programmed MATLAB code.
Silver (Ag) nanoparticles have unique plasmon-resonant optical scattering properties that are finding use in nanomedical applications such as signal enhancers, optical sensors, and biomarkers. In this study, we examined the chemical and biological properties of Ag nanoparticles of similar sizes, but that differed primarily in their surface chemistry (hydrocarbon versus polysaccharide), in neuroblastoma cells for their potential use as biological labels. We observed strong optical labeling of the cells in a high illumination light microscopy system after 24?h of incubation due to the excitation of plasmon resonance by both types of Ag nanoparticle. Surface binding of both types of Ag nanoparticle to the plasma membrane of the cells was verified with scanning electron microscopy as well as the internalization and localization of the Ag nanoparticles into intracellular vacuoles in thin cell sections with transmission electron microscopy. However, the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), degradation of mitochondrial membrane integrity, disruption of the actin cytoskeleton, and reduction in proliferation after stimulation with nerve growth factor were found after incubation with Ag nanoparticles at concentrations of 25?μg?ml(-1) or greater, with a more pronounced effect produced by the hydrocarbon-based Ag nanoparticles in most cases. Therefore, the use of Ag nanoparticles as potential biological labels, even if the surface is chemically modified with a biocompatible material, should be approached with caution. 相似文献

This study was aimed at investigating the fortification of probiotic yoghurt with rice bran to increase nutritional properties of the product. The different levels of rice bran (0.3%, 0.6%, 0.9% and 1.2%) were incorporated into milk. The yoghurt samples were produced after pasteurisation, addition of starter culture and 1% Lactobacillus acidophilus suspension (6 × 108 CFU mL?1) and incubation. During sample storage in refrigerator, the viability of L. acidophilus, viscosity and physicochemical and sensory properties of product were investigated. Rice bran significantly increased the viability of L. acidophilus (P < 0.05). In addition, all probiotic yoghurts incorporating rice bran indicated higher viscosity and acidity and lower pH and syneresis compared to plain yoghurts. Furthermore, increments in rice bran incorporation levels resulted in a reduction in consumers' sample preferences. In general, the addition of rice bran at a suitable level could increase L. acidophilus viability and improve quality attributes of yoghurt. 相似文献
With various emerging applications ranging from medicine to materials and electronics, the risk of exposure to nanomaterials is rapidly increasing. Several routes of exposure to nanomaterials exist; the most important being dermal contact and inhalation. In this dermal toxicity study, the cellular effects of carbon-based materials with diameters ranging from micro- to nano-dimension were investigated using mouse keratinocytes (HEL-30). The carbon materials tested included carbon fibers (CF; 10 μm diameter), carbon nanofibers (CNF; 100 nm diameter), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT; 10 nm diameter), and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT; 1 nm diameter). CF and CNF did not significantly affect cell viability; however, MWCNT and SWCNT reduced cell viability in a time-dependent manner up to 48 h, with full recovery of mitochondrial function by the 72 h time point. After a 24 h exposure, cells exposed to MWCNT produced up to 3-fold higher increase in reactive oxygen species than those exposed to SWCNT. The results of this study suggest that high-aspect ratio carbon material toxicity is dependent on dimension and composition. 相似文献
Bioactivities (including antioxidative and antiproliferative properties) of cuttlefish mantle protein hydrolysates (CPH) with the degree of hydrolysis (DH) of 20.9, 25.5, 30.6, 35.3 and 40.6% (shortened as 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40%, respectively) prepared using alcalase were evaluated. The results indicated that the CPH with 20, 30 and 40% DH showed the greatest activity against DPPH radical scavenging [5.2 µmol TE (torolox equivalent)/g sample], reducing power (0.4 absorbance at 700 nm) and total antioxidant capacity (0.6 mg ascorbic acid equivalent/g sample), which were 2.5, 6.5 and 13.8 times higher than the cuttlefish mantle protein isolate (CPI), respectively. The CPH with the DH of 20% had the highest effect against MDA-231 and T47D cancer cell lines with growth inhibition of 78.2 and 66.2%, which were 6.5 and 6 times higher activities compared to the CPI, respectively. The amino acid profile of CPH indicated that glutamine (15.7%) and asparagine (10.9%) were predominant. 相似文献
A new methodology is proposed in this paper to both monitor an overall mean shift and classify the states of a multivariate quality control system. Based on the Bayesian rule (Montgomery, Introduction to statistical quality control, 5th edn. Wiley, New York, USA, 2005), the belief that each quality characteristic is in an out-of-control state is first updated in an iterative approach and the proof of its convergence is given. Next, the decision-making process of the detection and classification the process mean shift is modeled. Numerical examples by simulation are provided in order to understand the proposed methodology and to evaluate its performance. Moreover, the in-control and out-of-control average run length (Montgomery, Introduction to statistical quality control, 5th edn. Wiley, New York, USA, 2005) of the proposed method are compared with the ones from the well-known Multivariate Cumulative Sum (MCUSUM), Multivariate Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (MEWMA) and Hotelling T2 methods in different scenarios of mean shifts. The results of the simulation study show that the proposed methodology performs better than other methods for all shifts of the process mean. Additionally, the estimated probabilities of making correct classifications by the proposed approach are encouraging. 相似文献
