The objective of this study was to determine the influence of lamb age and high-oxygen modified atmosphere (HiOx-MAP) on tenderness of loins during display. Loins from 36 carcasses of two different age groups [4-month-old (New season; NS) and 11-month-old lambs (Old season; OS)] were vacuum-packaged and stored for 8 weeks at −1.5 °C. After storage, the loins were cut into 6-cm thick chops, assigned to either HiOx-MAP or oxygen-permeable overwrap-PVC, and then displayed for 8 days at 3 °C. Initially, packaging methods did not influence shear force (P > 0.05). However, at the end of display, a significant increase in shear force and lipid oxidation was found in OS loins under HiOx-MAP. SDS–PAGE and Western blot results found a greater extent of cross-linked myosin products from OS loins in HiOx-MAP compared to NS loins. These results suggest that HiOx-MAP can adversely influence meat quality of fully-tenderized loins, and meat from older lamb may be more susceptible to an oxidizing environment of HiOx-MAP. 相似文献

LiFePO4/C of high purity grade was successfully synthesized by microwave accelerated sol–gel synthesis and showed excellent electrochemical performance in terms of specific capacity and stability. This cathode material was characterized in battery configuration with a graphite counter electrode by USABC–DOE tests for power-assist hybrid electric vehicle. It yielded a non-conventional Ragone plot that represents complexity of battery functioning in power-assist HEV and shows that the pulse power capability and available energy of such a battery surpasses the DOE goal for such an application. 相似文献

Seroma development after breast cancer surgery is the most common postoperative complication seen after mastectomy but neither its origin nor its cellular composition is known. To investigate the assumption of immunological significance, one of the first aims of this pilot study is to describe the cellular content of collected seroma fluids and its corresponding serum in patients with simple mastectomy after needle aspiration, as well as the serum of healthy controls. The content of red blood cells (RBC) was measured by haemato-counter analyses, and the lymphocyte identification/quantification was conducted by flow cytometry analyses in seroma fluid (SFl) and the sera of patients (PBp) as well as controls (PBc). Significantly lower numbers of RBCs were measured in SFl. Cytotoxic T cells are significantly reduced in SFl, whereas T helper (Th) cells are significantly enriched compared to PBp. Significantly higher numbers of Th2 cells were found in SFl and PBp compared to PBc. The exact same pattern is seen when analyzing the Th17 subgroup. In conclusion, in contrast to healthy controls, significantly higher Th2 and Th17 cell subgroup-mediated immune responses were measured in seroma formations and were further confirmed in the peripheral blood of breast cancer (including DCIS) patients after simple mastectomy. Past studies have confirmed that aberrant activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling is associated with tumorigenesis and metastasis in breast cancer, while the role of platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase (PLA2G7/PAF-AH) in this signaling pathway remains unclear. In this study, we analyze the functional impact of PAF-AH on BRCA1 mutant breast cancer and explore its relationship to the Wnt signaling pathway. By performing immunohistochemistry, PAF-AH expression and β-catenin expression were examined in both BRCA1 WT and BRCA1 mutant breast cancer specimens. The BRCA1 mutant breast cancer cell line HCC1937 was used for in vitro experiments to assess the impact of PAF-AH on cellular functions. The intracellular distribution of β-catenin depending on PLA2G7/PAF-AH expression was investigated by immunocytochemistry. Significantly higher nuclear expression levels of PAF-AH were found in BRCA1 mutant tissue specimens than in BRCA1 WT samples. Cell viability, proliferation, and the motility rate of HCC1937 were significantly enhanced after PLA2G7 silencing, which indicated a protective role of PAF-AH in breast cancer. Nuclear PAF-AH expressed correlatedly with membranous β-catenin. PLA2G7 silencing provoked the β-catenin translocation from the membrane to the nucleus and activated Wnt signaling downstream genes. Our data showed a protective effect of high PAF-AH expression in BRCA1 mutant breast cancer. PAF-AH may achieve its protective effect by negatively regulating the Wnt pathway. Alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT), an acute-phase protein encoded by the SERPINA1 gene, is a member of the serine protease inhibitor (SERPIN) superfamily. Its primary function is to protect tissues from enzymes released during inflammation, such as neutrophil elastase and proteinase 3. In addition to its antiprotease activity, AAT interacts with numerous other substances and has various functions, mainly arising from the conformational flexibility of normal variants of AAT. Therefore, AAT has diverse biological functions and plays a role in various pathophysiological processes. Edible coatings (ECs) are thin layers applied on food to protect it and improve quality. They are made from bio-based materials such as polysaccharides, proteins, lipids, or their composites. The incorporation of functional agents, such as bioactive compounds, vitamins, or antimicrobials into the EC, has been investigated to control the shelf life of many food products from horticulture ones to processed food. Osmotic dehydration (OD) as a mild technology may also positively impact the availability of innovative fruit snacks and consequently influence consumer health. Combination of the EC with the OD aims to remove water through the semipermeable membrane while limiting the transfer of solutes from the dehydrated tissue and in the opposite direction from the osmotic solution to the food. The development trend of the snack market is expanding, especially with health-promoting properties. Consumers pay increasing attention to quality of food and its beneficial effects on health. This review attempts to provide the advancement of recent studies on the application of the EC before the OD of different fresh or fresh-cut fruit and vegetables. A fundamental theory related to the methodology of creating the EC, their composition, and the influence on the physicochemical properties of products that are osmo-dehydrated to a medium water content or additionally dried to a low water content have been described. Efforts have been exerted to introduce hydrocolloids used in the production of the EC, including new sources of biopolymers such as agricultural waste and by-products. The perspectives of using ECs in the technology of producing pro-healthy snacks are emphasized. 相似文献
