Although Eastern Mediterranean forests have been exploited for many years, the changing trends in the past 40 years require detailed investigations. Forests in the coastal zone of Lebanon are witnessing major changes mainly because of chaotic urbanisation. The study area at the coastal zone of Lebanon has 96% of its forest cover under oak coppice. The aim of this study is to investigate the applicability of landscape indices on oak forests especially their ability to detect changes between 1965 and 2003. It uses forest canopy closure as another indicator of forest destruction. The 1965 forest map was first checked for its accuracy before being used to extract patch delineations and canopy closures. Landcover types for 2003 were obtained by classifying a SPOT 5 satellite image. FRAGSTATS software was utilised on the 1965 map on a patch basis to calculate patch shapes and sizes. These indices and canopy closures data were investigated for correlation purposes with patterns of forest loss. The edge distances between forest patches in 1965 and new forest patches in 2003 were computed to analyze regeneration processes. Results show that although older forest patches have shown a 48% loss in area, total forest area reached 83%. Abandoned agricultural lands have become new forest. Smaller forest patches (< 40 ha) showed greater losses than large ones. Small and open forest patches recorded greater loss than large and dense patches. Shape indices show no correlation with forest loss. Clearance for agriculture covered 30% of the pre-existing forests, while urban developments accounted for just 4% of forest loss. This research highlights the great need for comprehensive studies of forests using landscape analyses. Such analyses help managers develop practical and relevant conservation measures.  相似文献

There is no single standardized method of repair for the anatomic variations in aortic root pathology, which may include dissection, aneurysmal dilation, and valve disease and can occur at the annulus, sinuses of Valsalva, or the sinotubular junction. Composite valve/graft replacement, valve resuspension, and allograft each play a significant role in aortic root therapy, but none is applicable in all cases. Patient age, Marfan's syndrome, endocarditis, and previous valve replacement are examples of some of the wide variations in delineating factors.  相似文献

Between 1983 and 1993, 680 patients with rectal carcinoma were treated at Ulm University. The resection rate was 84%. After undergoing radical surgery, 492 of the patients were followed up regularly at our hospital for a median of 66.9 months (range 4-177.6). Recurrences occurred in 172 patients (35%) and were diagnosed a median of 13 months (range 4-106 months) postoperatively; 9.4% had regional recurrences, 10.4% regional recurrences and distant metastases and 10.2% distant metastases. The 10-year survival rate of the patients in tumour stages I, II and III was 88%, 62%, and 32%. In patients with carcinoma of the midrectum, after anterior resection or abdominoperineal amputation the same local recurrence rate was found.  相似文献

Graphite–silicon carbide (G–SiC), carbon/carbon–silicon carbide (C/C–SiC) and mesocarbon microbeads–silicon carbide (MCMB–SiC) composites were produced using liquid silicon infiltration (LSI) method and their physical and mechanical properties, including density, porosity, flexural strength and ablation resistance were investigated. In comparison with G–SiC and C/C–SiC composites, MCMB–SiC composites have the highest bending strength (210 MPa) and ablation resistance (9.1%). Moreover, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy (OM) are used to analyze the reacted microstructure, pore morphology and pore distribution of carbon-based matrices. As a result, SiC network reinforcement was formed in situ via a reaction between liquid silicon and carbon. The unreacted carbon and solidified silicon are two phases present in the final microstructure and are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Based on the results obtained and the low-cost processing of pitch-based materials, the MCMB–SiC composite is a promising candidate for aerospace applications.  相似文献

The powerful hybrid analysis method of capillary-based separations followed by mass spectrometric analysis gives substantial chemical identity and structural information. It is usually carried out using electrospray ionization. However, the salts and detergents used in the mobile phase for electrokinetic separations suppress ionization efficiencies and contaminate the inlet of the mass spectrometer. This report describes a new method that uses desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) to overcome these limitations. Effluent from capillary columns is deposited on a rotating Teflon disk that is covered with paper. As the surface rotates, the temporal separation of the eluting analytes (i.e., the electropherogram) is spatially encoded on the surface. Then, using DESI, surface-deposited analytes are preferentially ionized, reducing the effects of ion suppression and inlet contamination on signal. With the use of this novel approach, two capillary-based separations were performed: a mixture of the rhodamine dyes at milligram/milliliter levels in a 10 mM sodium borate solution was separated by capillary electrophoresis, and a mixture of three cardiac drugs at milligram/milliliter levels in a 12.5 mM sodium borate and 12.5 mM sodium dodecyl sulfate solution was separated by micellar electrokinetic chromatography. In both experiments, the negative effects of detergents and salts on the MS analyses were minimized.  相似文献

The effects of oxidation in both normal and moist air upon powdered single crystals of the scheelite-type compounds LiYF4, LiErF4, -YLF (LiY0.434 Er0.5 Tm0.055 Ho0.011 F4) and -LuLF (LiLu0.434 Er0.5 Tm0.05 Ho0.011 F4) have been studied by X-ray powder diffraction and differential thermal analysis. For all the materials the oxidation rate is enhanced in the presence of moisture. The oxidation process results in the formation of rare-earth oxyfluoride phases, LiYF4, forming yttrium oxyfluoride (with a rhombohedral phase predominating) and LiErF4 forming erbium oxyfluoride (with a tetragonal phase predominating). The LiYF4 compound oxidizes more rapidly than LiErF4 both in normal and moist air. The more complex -YLF compound oxidizes to form a mixture containing significant quantities of both the rhombohedral and tetragonal rare-earth oxyfluoride phases. The -LuLF compound oxidizes to form the tetragonal rare-earth oxyfluoride phase together with a very small amount of the rhombohedral variety. The melting reactions of oxidized samples are very broad thermal events which are coupled with the presence of a strong LiF/LiRF4-type eutectic component. These observations are rationalized in terms of the appearance of excess LiF due to selective oxidation of the trifluoride component.  相似文献

A new method for the fabrication of polymer waveguides between two optical fibers using a spatially controlled photopolymerization is reported. By taking advantage of the self-guiding effect of light through a photopolymerizable medium, polymer waveguides perfectly aligned with the fiber cores and strongly anchored to their surfaces are fabricated. The process is characterized by following in situ the coupling efficiency of a nonactinic laser source. Examples of waveguides exhibiting good coupling efficiency and high flexibility are given. By selecting the suitable monomers and adjusting the photonic parameters, the optical and mechanical waveguide properties (diameter, length, refractive index, rigidity, and flexibility) can be controlled in view of optical sensor applications.  相似文献

In this paper, an analytical model is used to analyze the modulated polar mesospheric winter echoes (PMWE). The winter parameters were introduced to simulate the effects of different parameters during the artificial electron heating of PMWE. The important role of the charged dust particle in the creation of PMWE is confirmed again. It is found that during the heating of PMWE, the increases of the dust size, dust charge, electron temperature, initial electron density, and ion-neutral collision frequency cause the increase of the electron density irregularity, and hence the PMWE strength. However, with increasing the dust density, the electron density irregularity and the PMWE strength decrease.  相似文献

The effect of interface modification on the interfacial adhesion and tensile properties of glass fabric/epoxy composites was evaluated in two directions of 0° and +45°. Herein, the glass fabric surface was modified by colloidal nanosilica particles and by a new blend of silane-coupling agents including both reactive and non-reactive silanes. Composite samples with high strength and toughness were obtained. A simultaneous improvement of tensile strength and toughness was observed for an epoxy composite reinforced with a hybrid-sized glass fabric including silane mixture and nanosilica. In fact, the incorporation of colloidal silica into the hybrid sizing dramatically modified the fiber surface texture and created mechanical interlocking between the glass fabric and resin. The results were analyzed by the rule of mixtures (ROM), Halpin–Tsai (H–T), and Chamis equations. It was found that the ROM equations provided approximate upper bound values for all investigated composite samples. In the samples containing nanosilica, the shear and elastic moduli values calculated by the Chamis and ROM equations showed good agreement with those obtained from experiments. However, in other samples, the values calculated by the H–T equation showed a better agreement with the experimental data. The analysis of fracture surfaces indicated that both silane and nanosilica particles had influence on the mode of failures at the interface.  相似文献

A network of observers is considered, where through asynchronous (with bounded delay) communications, they cooperatively estimate the states of a linear time-invariant (LTI) system. In such a setting, a new type of adversary might affect the observation process by impersonating the identity of the regular node, which is a violation of communication authenticity. These adversaries also inherit the capabilities of Byzantine nodes, making them more powerful threats called smart spoofers. We show how asynchronous networks are vulnerable to smart spoofing attack. In the estimation scheme considered in this paper, information flows from the sets of source nodes, which can detect a portion of the state variables each, to the other follower nodes. The regular nodes, to avoid being misguided by the threats, distributively filter the extreme values received from the nodes in their neighborhood. Topological conditions based on strong robustness are proposed to guarantee the convergence. Two simulation scenarios are provided to verify the results.  相似文献
