Pulsed laser deposition of Al2O3 onto porous silicon (PS) is shown to provide excellent passivation of multi-crystalline silicon surfaces intended for solar cells applications. Surface passivation and reflectivity are investigated before and after the deposition of various nominal thicknesses of Al2O3 ranging from isolated nanoparticles to ~80 nm-thick films. The level of surface passivation is determined by techniques based on photoconductance and FTIR. As a result, the effective minority carrier lifetime increase from 1 to 130 μs at a minority carrier density (Δn) of 1?×?1013 cm?3. However, passivation scheme provide a significant decrease in the reflectivity; it’s reduced from 28% to about 5% after Al2O3/PS coating.  相似文献

This article introduces a novel, ultrawideband (UWB) planar monopole antenna printed on Roger RT/5880 substrate in a compact size for small Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The total electrical dimensions of the proposed compact UWB antenna are 0.19 λo × 0.215 λo × 0.0196 λo with the overall physical sizes of 15 mm × 17 mm × 1.548 mm at the lower resonance frequency of 3.8 GHz. The planar monopole antenna is fed through the linearly tapered microstrip line on a partially structured ground plane to achieve optimum impedance matching for UWB operation. The proposed compact UWB antenna has an operation bandwidth of 9.53 GHz from 3.026 GHz up to 12.556 GHz at −10 dB return loss with a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of about 122%. The numerically computed and experimentally measured results agree well in between. A detailed time-domain analysis is additionally accomplished to verify the radiation efficiency of the proposed antenna design for the ultra-wideband signal propagation. The fabricated prototype of a compact UWB antenna exhibits an omnidirectional radiation pattern with the low peak measured gain required of 2.55 dBi at 10 GHz and promising radiation efficiency of 90%. The proposed compact planar antenna has technical potential to be utilized in UWB and IoT applications.  相似文献

Here, we report on a new zeolite-based silicalite nanoparticle that can enhance the transfection efficiencies generated by poly ethylene imine-plasmid DNA (PEI-pDNA) complexes via a sedimentation mechanism and can enhance the transfection efficiencies of pDNA alone when surface functionalized with amine groups. The silicalite nanoparticles have a mean size of 55?nm. Functionalizing the silicalite nanoparticles with amine groups results in a clear transition in zeta potential from -25.9 ± 2.3?mV (pH 7.4) for unfunctionalized silicalite nanoparticles to 4.9 ± 0.7?mV (pH 7.4) for amine functionalized silicalite nanoparticles. We identify that silicalite nanoparticles used to promote non-viral vector acceleration to the cell surface are found in acidic vesicles or the cytoplasm but not the nucleus. An MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay showed that the silicalite nanoparticles were non-toxic at the concentrations tested for transfection. We show that surface functionalization of silicalite nanoparticles with amine groups results in a significant (230%) increase in transfection efficiency of pDNA when compared to unfunctionalized silicalite nanoparticles. Silicalite nanoparticles enhanced pDNA-PEI induced transfection of human embryonic kidney (HEK-293) cells by over 150%.  相似文献

Existing research on women in construction focuses on engineers and entrepreneurs, yet little to no attention has been given to women in trades. Thus, the aim of this research is to review the literature on tradeswomen and to conduct a localized study to determine if demographic variables affect satisfaction with work, pay, opportunities, supervision, and people on the job for tradeswomen. These variables include age, education, number of dependents, number of trade years, duration of work, and frequency of work outside of the local area. Thirty-nine tradeswomen from the Cincinnati area were surveyed to assess their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with construction work. Currently, the literature review indicates that research on tradeswomen is limited and largely restricted to identifying measures that can attract and retain women in construction trades. Studies on motivation and job satisfaction of construction workers neither identify nor compare perceptions of tradeswomen about their work. Results of this exploratory study showed that pay, benefits, and job security are most important to women in their occupation. Although tradeswomen appear to be satisfied with the nature of work in construction trades, this is not the case in terms of pay, benefits, and job security. Demographic variables did not affect the level of job satisfaction for women in construction trades. Research on tradeswomen is essential and important as the industry tries to change its image and encourage diversity in order to mitigate labor shortage.  相似文献

Dataflow modeling offers a myriad of tools for designing and optimizing signal processing systems. A designer is able to take advantage of dataflow properties to effectively tune the system in connection with functionality and different performance metrics. However, a disparity in the specification of dataflow properties and the final implementation can lead to incorrect behavior that is difficult to detect. This motivates the problem of ensuring consistency between dataflow properties that are declared or otherwise assumed as part of dataflow-based application models, and the dataflow behavior that is exhibited by implementations that are derived from the models. In this paper, we address this problem by introducing a novel dataflow validation framework (DVF) that is able to identify disparities between an application’s formal dataflow representation and its implementation. DVF works by instrumenting the implementation of an application and monitoring the instrumentation data as the application executes. This monitoring process is streamlined so that DVF achieves validation without major overhead. We demonstrate the utility of our DVF through design and implementation case studies involving an automatic speech recognition application, a JPEG encoder, and an acoustic tracking application.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to characterize a buccal mucoadhesive film using lidocaine and its hydrochloride salt (LDHCL) as a model drug. Buccal films were developed using carbopol 971P as a mucoadhesive polymer, and glycerol as a plasticizer. Scanning Electron Microscope, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, X-ray powder diffraction, and Fourier Transform Infra Red techniques were used to characterize the mucoadhesive films. Bioadhesive properties were evaluated using the Universal Instron Instrument with chicken pouch as a model tissue.

LDHCL and its base were present in carbopol 971P films in a molecular dispersion state without exerting any effect on the glass transition of these films. The mucoadhesive force between the chicken pouches and the film containing glycerol did not change by time during the tested period (1-20 min), while increased with increasing the amount of glycerol (10-40% w/w of polymer content). Furthermore, a linear increase in the mucoadhesive force was accompanied by the increase in the film thickness, while a linear decrease followed by plateau was obtained when loading the patch with LDHCL at concentration above 1 mg/cm2.

Loading carbopol film with lidocaine base, in a concentration up to 6 mg/cm2 decreased linearly the mucoadhesive properties, which could be attributed to salt formation between the acidic carboxylic moiety of carbopol and basic lidocaine.  相似文献

Structure development in PET film during high strain-rate, constant-force (CF) deformation in the temperature range 80–96°C is compared with structure development during lower strain rate, constant-extension-rate (CER) deformation in a similar temperature range. The higher (maximum) strain rates involved in CF drawing mean that much of the deformation takes place in a regime where the time available for orientational relaxation and crystallization is short. This results in high levels of ‘non-crystalline orientation' and low levels of crystallinity compared to structures obtained from CER drawing. In CER drawing, due to the lower strain rates, the degree of crystallinity always has time to reach pseudo-equilibrium values corresponding to a given level of non-crystalline orientation, and the amount of orientational relaxation occurring during drawing has the dominant influence on structure development. In CF drawing, pseudo-equilibrium crystallinity values are not reached, except when the deformation approaches the tail-end of the strain-rate spectrum. The results also provide confirmation that microstructure data obtained from rapidly quenched samples are consistent with microstructure data obtained from real-time experiments.  相似文献

We set out to determine whether the increases in intracranial pressure (ICP) associated with CO2 insufflation had any metabolic effect on the central nervous system in a head injury when compared with gasless laparoscopy (GL). To test this hypothesis, we looked at both the ICP and jugular bulb venous saturation (JVS), with and without a coexisting cerebral mass lesion. Twenty-five kilogram male pigs had tracheostomy, epidural balloon, pulmonary arterial catheter, arterial line, and jugular bulb catheter placed. Intravenous Pentobarbital was used for anesthesia. Either CO2 laparoscopy (CL; n=7) or GL (n=7) were performed both with and without an epidural balloon inflated to a baseline ICP of 25. Data were analyzed using the Student's t test with a P value <0.05 being significant. Cerebral perfusion pressure and most hemodynamic values did not differ. Both central venous pressure and peak inspiratory pressure were significantly elevated whenever CO2 insufflation took place, reflecting an increased intrathoracic pressure. When comparing both study groups, the partial pressure of CO2 did not differ. CL increases ICP significantly above the gasless group in our head injury model. This is most likely secondary to increased intrathoracic pressure. The question still remains whether these changes are clinically significant. We could not demonstrate significant metabolic effects secondary to laparoscopy. In patients suffering head injury, GL rather than CL might be safer to avoid ICP elevation. Additional studies looking at central nervous system metabolic and objective histopathologic effects should be undertaken with larger numbers of study animals.  相似文献
