The thermoelastic bending analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates using the two-variable refined plate theory is presented in this paper. Unlike any other theory, the number of unknown functions involved is only four, as against five in case of other shear deformation theories. The theory presented is variationally consistent, has strong similarity with classical plate theory in many aspects, does not require shear correction factor, and gives rise to transverse shear stress variation such that the transverse shear stresses vary parabolically across the thickness satisfying shear stress free surface conditions. The sandwich plate faces are assumed to have isotropic, two-constituent material distribution through the thickness, and the modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio of the faces, and thermal expansion coefficients are assumed to vary according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic ceramic material. Several kinds of sandwich plates are used taking into account the symmetry of the plate and the thickness of each layer. The influences played by the transverse shear deformation, thermal load, plate aspect ratio, and volume fraction distribution are studied. Numerical results for deflections and stresses of functionally graded metal–ceramic plates are investigated. Cascade impactors are commonly used to assess the size characteristics of aerosols in toxicology and pharmaceutical applications. These aerosol instruments have been developed and refined over decades. However, a number of questions remain related to impactor performance, including the influence of electrostatic charge on measured size distributions. The objective of this study was to develop a validated CFD model of the Mark II Andersen cascade impactor (ACI) and apply this model to evaluate the effects of particle charge on deposition. The flow field was simulated using a commercial CFD code for incompressible laminar and transitional flows. Particle trajectories and deposition were evaluated using a well tested Lagrangian tracking approach that accounts for impaction, sedimentation, diffusion, and electrostatic attraction. Particle charge levels typical of dry powder inhaler (DPI) and metered dose inhaler (MDI) aerosols were considered for a particle size range of 0.3–12 μm. As a model validation, computational predictions of cutoff d50 diameters for each of the eight ACI stages were found to be within 10% difference of existing experimental and manufacturer data. Results indicated that charges consistent with DPI and MDI aerosols increased deposition fraction in Stages 0–3 by up to 30% and increased deposition fraction in Stages 4–7 by up to an order of magnitude. For Stages 0–3, both DPI and MDI charges reduced the d50 value by approximately 10% or less. In contrast, charged aerosols reduced the d50 values in Stages 4 and 5 by 200% and 60%, respectively. All charged submicrometer aerosols considered deposited in Stages 6 and 7. Increasing the particle charge by an order of magnitude from DPI to MDI values had a relatively small effect on further decreasing the cutoff size of each stage. In conclusion, these results can be used to approximate the actual aerodynamic diameter of a charged pharmaceutical aerosol based on measurements in a standard ACI. Future applications of the developed ACI model include evaluating the influence of space charge on deposition and quantifying the effects of aerosol condensation and evaporation on size assessment. 相似文献

Severe accident studies for very low frequency events for VVER-1000 (V320) are carried out to estimate in-vessel damage progression under steam-rich and starved conditions. The analyses with code ASTEC, jointly developed by IRSN (France) and GRS, Germany), have shown the influence of steam environment on core heat-up followed by material relocation, hydrogen production, vessel failure and aerosol generation along with release to containment. Hydro-accumulator injection for studied transients also gives rise to a steam-rich environment enhancing the material oxidation depending on the injection time and period. The generated information along with PSA-Level 2 is helpful to decide Plant Damage State (PDS) and fruitfully develop accident management strategies for the plant. 相似文献

Energy thresholds for electrical pacing of the heart are lower with small electrodes than with large. Because pacing of the heart during the vulnerable period may produce ventricular fibrillation, it is also pertinent to know if fibrillation threshold is affected by the electrode size. Electrodes of different surface area but of the same material were implanted in 40 dogs and the pacing thresholds were recorded. Ventricular fibrillation was electrically induced by discharging a 2-msec d.c. cathodal pulse of progressively increasing energy into the vulnerable period. It was found that small electrodes required more energy to produce ventricular fibrillation than large electrodes, and the ratio of fibrillation to stimulation threshold was higher for the small-surface-area electrode. The difference between the thresholds and ratios obtained with the various electrodes was statistically significant. A similar experiment was performed in animals with chronically implanted electrodes, producing comparable results. The results indicate that, in regard to pacing and fibrillation thresholds, small electrodes are preferable to large. 相似文献

An inhomogeneous thermal block model of man with 476 cubical cells has been developed. It incorporates inhomogeneous blood flow rates, metabolic heat production, specific heats, and thermal conductivities, obtained by volume-weighted averaging of the values for eleven different tissue types which constitute the human body. The transient heat conduction equation for the thermal model includes the effects of internal metabolic heat generation, electromagnetic energy deposition, heat conduction through the tissues, convective heat transfer by blood, evaporative heat dissipation by sweating and insensible perspiration, respiratory heat loss, and heat transfer to the environment by radiation and convection. In this paper we evaluate several routing protocols for mobile, wireless, ad hoc networks via packetlevel simulations. The ad hoc networks are multihop wireless networks with dynamically changing network connectivity owing to mobility. The protocol suite includes several routing protocols specifically designed for ad hoc routing, as well as more traditional protocols, such as link state and distance vector, used for dynamic networks. Performance is evaluated with respect to fraction of packets delivered, endtoend delay, and routing load for a given traffic and mobility model. Both small (30 nodes) and medium sized (60 nodes) networks are used. It is observed that the new generation of ondemand routing protocols use much lower routing load, especially with small number of peertopeer conversations. However, the traditional link state and distance vector protocols provide, in general, better packet delivery and endtoend delay performance. 相似文献

Clustering-Based Denoising With Locally Learned Dictionaries 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this paper, we propose K-LLD: a patch-based, locally adaptive denoising method based on clustering the given noisy image into regions of similar geometric structure. In order to effectively perform such clustering, we employ as features the local weight functions derived from our earlier work on steering kernel regression . These weights are exceedingly informative and robust in conveying reliable local structural information about the image even in the presence of significant amounts of noise. Next, we model each region (or cluster)-which may not be spatially contiguous-by ldquolearningrdquo a best basis describing the patches within that cluster using principal components analysis. This learned basis (or ldquodictionaryrdquo) is then employed to optimally estimate the underlying pixel values using a kernel regression framework. An iterated version of the proposed algorithm is also presented which leads to further performance enhancements. We also introduce a novel mechanism for optimally choosing the local patch size for each cluster using Stein's unbiased risk estimator (SURE). We illustrate the overall algorithm's capabilities with several examples. These indicate that the proposed method appears to be competitive with some of the most recently published state of the art denoising methods. 相似文献

Vitamin E acetate, which is used as a diluent of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), has been reported as the primary causative agent of e-cigarette, or vaping, product use-associated lung injury (EVALI). Here, we employ in vitro assays, docking, and molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulations to investigate the interaction of vitamin E with the membrane-bound cannabinoid 2 receptor (CB2R), and its role in modulating the binding affinity of THC to CB2R. From the MD simulations, we determined that vitamin E interacts with both CB2R and membrane phospholipids. Notably, the synchronized effect of these interactions likely facilitates vitamin E acting as a lipid modulator for the cannabinoid system. Furthermore, MD simulation and trajectory analysis show that when THC binds to CB2R in the presence of vitamin E, the binding cavity widens, facilitating the entry of water molecules into it, leading to a reduced interaction of THC with CB2R. Additionally, the interaction between THC and vitamin E in solution is stabilized by several H bonds, which can directly limit the interaction of free THCs with CB2R. Overall, both the MD simulations and the in vitro dissociation assay results indicate that THC binding to CB2R is reduced in the presence of vitamin E. Our study discusses the role of vitamin E in limiting the effect of THCs and its implications on the reported pathology of EVALI. 相似文献
