Throughflows of the “gas-solids” type as heat-transfer agents

Experimentally obtained data are used to demonstrate the advantages of a gas suspension as a heat-transfer agent.     

An analysis of hydrodynamics and heat-and-mass processes in vibration apparatuses for regenerating spent fuel from nuclear power stations

Experimental data are presented on the motion velocity of model materials simulating the properties of a polyfractional mixture of spent fuel from a nuclear power station (finely dispersed components with d _f< 0.08 mm and pieces of fuel rod claddings with d _f = 15–50 mm) and separation of fine fraction, as well as on the effective coefficients of diffusion and thermal diffusivity, which characterize how intensively reverse mixing proceeds in the elements of vibration apparatuses for oxidative recrystallization of spent fuel.     

Comminution of high-speed steel powders

Conclusions The best quality of powder is ensured by comminution in a disintegrator. The amount of energy expended in vibratory milling is tens of times larger than that consumed in comminution in a disintegrator. A comparison of the physico-mechanical properties of unidirectional organic-plastics based on epoxy and on polyamide binders

Conclusions -- A comparison of the physicomechanical properties of organoplastics using epoxy or polycaproamide matrixes has shown that the epoxy binder ensures a better realization of the properties of high-strength organic yarns and plastics under extension. The highest figures are obtained for Armos or SVM yarns.-- Under conditions of bending loads, the properties of organoplastics with different reinforcing yarns (Armos, SVM, and Terlon) are close to each other, and for organoplastics with a polycaproamide matrix it is possible to attain higher strength figures than for epoxy plastics.Translated from Khimicheskie Volokna, No. 5, pp. 46–48, September–October, 1991.     

Heat resistance of epoxy plastics

Based on the results obtained, the method of estimating the deformation heat resistance of samples of microplastics with the Perkin—Elmer TMA-7 is recommended. The method combines simplicity of sample preparation with high sensitivity. For the epoxy binders studied, the position of the epoxy plastics with respect to the level of heat resistance coincides both based on the criterion of preservation of strength and preservation of rigidity.All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Polymer Fibers, Mytishchi. Rames ferroviaires frigorifiques pour poissons vivants

In the USSR a substantial quantity of live fish is transported by rail, the wagons being equipped with special refrigerating systems to maintain the fish in satisfactory condition.Complete trains are now in use, with one service wagon providing power to one, two or three wagons, each fitted with two tanks which contain 17 tonnes of fish. The chilled water in the tanks is aerated and agitated and there is special equipment to dispose of the CO₂, foam and waste matter.The paper describes the transport equipment and the results of measurements carried out on some trial runs. The installation can maintain a water temperature of 2°C and control the oxygen level at 4 mg l⁻¹, even with a full load of fish.

Résumé

En URSS on transporte une importante quantité de poisson vivant par voie ferrée. Les wagons utilisés sont équipés de l'ensemble des installations permettant ce transport dans les meilleures conditions.II a été créé récemment une rame ferroviaire composée d'un wagon-diesel fournissant l'énergie et d'un, deux ou trois wagons de transport du poisson. Chaque wagon de transport est équipe de deux bacs permettant de recevoir 17 tonnes de poissons, mais aussi des équipements d'agitaton, d'aération et de refroidissement de l'eau ainsi que des dispositifs d'élimination du CO₂ et de l'écume et des déchets qu'elle contient.Ce document décrit les installations équipant le wagon de transport et les résultats des mesures effectuées sur quelques transports de poissons. Les résultats montrent que l'on peut maintenir une température de +2°C dans l'eau et un taux d'oxygéne de 4 mg l⁻¹ même à plein chargement.
