Molecular imprinted polymers are artificial, template-made materials with the ability to recognize and to specifically bind the target molecule. The aim of this study is to prepare supermacroporous cryogel with embedded bilirubin-imprinted particles which can be used for the selective removal of bilirubin from human plasma. N-methacryloyl-(l)-tyrosinemethylester (MAT) was chosen as the pre-organization monomer. In the first step, bilirubin was complexed with MAT and the bilirubin-imprinted poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate-N-methacryloly-(l)-tyrosine methyl-ester) [MIP] monolith was produced by bulk polymerization. MIP monolith was smashed and the particles ground and sieved through 100 μm sieves. In the second step, the supermacroporous poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) cryogel with embedded MIP particles [PHEMA/MIP composite cryogel] was produced by free radical polymerization initiated by N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylene diamine (TEMED) and ammonium persulfate (APS) pair in an ice bath. After that, the template (i.e., bilirubin) molecules were removed using sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide. Compared with the PHEMA cryogel (0.2 mg/g polymer), the bilirubin adsorption capacity of the PHEMA/MIP composite cryogel (10.3 mg/g polymer) was improved significantly due to the embedded MIP particles into the polymeric matrix. The relative selectivity coefficients of PHEMA/MIP composite cryogel for bilirubin/cholesterol and bilirubin/testosterone were 8.6 and 4.1 times greater than the PHEMA cryogel, respectively. The PHEMA/MIP composite cryogel could be used many times without decreasing the bilirubin adsorption capacity significantly.  相似文献

Knowledge of sorption and transport of heavy metals in soils in the presence of other metals is crucial for assessing the environmental risk of these metals. Competitive sorption and transport of four metals, Pb(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), and Mn(2+), were investigated using multi-metal column experiments with lateritic soils obtained from a gold mine impacted by acid mine drainage. Based on Pb(2+) breakthrough time for single-metal system at a pH of approximately 5, the sorption capacity of Pb(2+) was estimated to be higher in lateritic soil than the other metals. For multi-metal systems, the estimated retardation factors for the metals from highest to lowest were: Pb(2+)>Zn(2+)~ Ni(2+)>Mn(2+), suggesting the mobility of metals through lateritic soil for a multi-metal system would be in the order of Mn(2+)>Ni(2+)~ Zn(2+)>Pb(2+). For binary and multi-metal systems, the estimated sorption capacities of individual metals were found to be lower than the sorption capacities in single metal system - indicating possible competition for sorption sites. Mass recoveries estimates showed that the sorption of metals was more reversible under competitive multi-metal systems than in single metal systems.  相似文献

In this study, four bench-scale pre-anoxic submerged membrane bioreactors (MBR) were operated simultaneously at different mean cell residence times (MCRTs) (3, 5, 10, and 20 days) to systematically elucidate the contributing factors of membrane fouling. Severe membrane fouling was first observed in the 3-day followed by the 5-day MCRT MBRs. Minimal membrane fouling was detected in the 10 and 20-day MCRT MBRs. The fouling of microfiltration membrane was not controlled by mixed liquor suspended solids concentration or zeta potential of biomass. Instead, membrane fouling rate increased with increasing soluble microbial products and extracellular polymeric substances concentrations, which both increased with decreasing MCRT. Total organic carbon, protein, carbohydrate, and UV254 absorbance in the mixed liquor supernatant increased with decreasing MCRT and were consistently higher than those of the effluent. Accumulation of carbohydrates rather than proteins in the mixed liquor supernatant was found to decrease with increasing MCRT. Normalized capilliary suction time value rather than the capilliary suction time value would indicate membrane fouling potential of a mixed liquor. Image analysis of the fouled membrane using scanning electron microscope and confocal laser scanning microscope showed that biofilm formation was the cause of membrane fouling.  相似文献

Effects of Sodium Chloride on the Performance of a Sequencing Batch Reactor   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this study, we investigated the effects of sodium chloride (concentrations ranging from 0?to?60?g/L) on the performance of sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) using a microbial culture developed from a domestic sewage treatment plant. The lab-scale SBRs were fed with synthetic wastewater (acetate as the organic substrate) containing either sodium chloride solution or seawater to ensure consistency in feed composition. It was found that sodium chloride concentrations of up to 10?g/L stimulated substrate removal. The organic removal efficiency decreased from 96%, when no sodium chloride was added, to 86% when 60?g/L of sodium chloride was introduced into the influent wastewater. Effluent turbidity increased significantly when the sodium chloride concentration in the wastewater was equal to or above 30?g/L even though the sludge volume index (SVI) decreased. The increase in effluent turbidity could be caused by the release of nondissolved cellular components due to plasmolysis of microorganisms as observed by scanning electron microscopy. Experiments involving seawater (with 20?g/L total dissolved solids) showed that organic removal efficiency improved from 87 to 95% while effluent turbidity and SVI values were lowered when the loading rate parameter (Li) was lowered from 0.6?to?0.3?mg total chemical oxygen demand (mg?VSS?day). Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy indicated morphological changes in the microbial population. From this study, it was concluded that microbial culture from domestic wastewater facilities could be acclimated in a SBR to treat wastewater containing sodium chloride concentrations of up to 60?g/L.  相似文献

The AI methodology of qualitative reasoning furnishes useful tools to scientists and engineers who need to deal with incomplete system knowledge during design, analysis, or diagnosis tasks. Qualitative simulators have a theoretical soundness guarantee; they cannot overlook any concrete equation implied by their input. On the other hand, the basic qualitative simulation algorithms have been shown to suffer from the incompleteness problem; they may allow non-solutions of the input equation to appear in their output. The question of whether a simulator with purely qualitative input which never predicts spurious behaviors can ever be achieved by adding new filters to the existing algorithm has remained unanswered. In this paper, we show that, if such a sound and complete simulator exists, it will have to be able to handle numerical distinctions with such a high precision that it must contain a component that would better be called a quantitative, rather than qualitative reasoner. This is due to the ability of the pure qualitative format to allow the exact representation of the members of a rich set of numbers.  相似文献
