Pressure dependence of the elastic shear modulus in V3Si

The pressure derivative of the elastic shear modulus of V₃Si is calculated from 20 to 300 K in the linear chain model for the -W compounds. The theory agrees with the experiment and predicts a different behavior for transforming and nontransforming single crystals.     

Cardiovascular and subjective effects of intravenous cocaine administration in humans

Nine volunteer subjects were tested with intravenously administered cocaine hydrochloride in doses ranging from 4 to 32 mg, as well as 10 mg of dextroamphetamine sulfate. Measures of cardiovascular and subjective effects were made. Generally parallel dose-effect functions were obtained for heart rate, blood pressure, Addiction Research Center Inventory scores, Profile of Mood Scales, and subject ratings. A substantial effect on each of these variables was recorded after 8 mg of cocaine. The increase continued and peaked at approximately 16 mg after which it usually leveled off. Ten milligrams of dextroamphetamine generally had an effect comparable to 8 to 16 mg of cocaine.

Influence of Location and the Year of Planting on the Protein-and Fat-Content and Fatty Acid Pattern of Different Varieties of Soybeans The influence of location and the year of planting on the crude protein content and crude fat content, as well as on the fatty acid composition of soybean oil was investigated and statistically evaluated. These studies were carried out using 12 different materials that were collected during a cultivation period of 2–3 years from various locations in Germany, France, Italy and Turkey. In addition, 8 Asian varieties of soybean, 4 of which were grown in Hongkong and 4 in Sweden, were investigated as well.

Investigations on the Efficacy of Preserving Agents in Anion Active Surfactants II The authors investigated the preserving action of p-chloro-m-cresol and of pHB-methyl/ethyl ester combination (1 + 1) in solutions of anion active surfactants. The preservatives were employed at two different concentrations. The concentration of the surfactants (lauryl sulfate and protein-fatty acid condensate as sodium, potassium and triethanolamine salts) was varied from 0.1 to 10.0 g/100 g. The pH of the solutions was 7. The deactivation of the preservatives investigated here by the anion active surfactant occurs only after a certain ratio of surfactant to preservative is reached. Under this ratio the preservatives are fully effective; above this, however, are the preservatives deactivated.     

Clearance of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus in an Immunocompromised Patient Mediated by Convalescent Plasma without B-Cell Recovery

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This case report presents a patient who had difficulty eradicating the corona virus due to being treated with Rituximab, which depletes B lymphocyte cells and therefore disables the production of neutralizing antibodies. The combined use of external anti-viral agents like convalescent plasma, IVIG and Remdesivir successfully helped the patient’s immune system to eradicate the virus without B-cell population recovery. In vitro studies showed that convalescent plasma is the main agent that helped in eradicating the virus.     

Reactive inkjet printing of polyethylene glycol and isocyanate based inks to create porous polyurethane structures

Reactive inkjet printing offers a direct way to create polymeric structures in situ on a substrate. Therefore, two component polyurethane formulations can be utilized to be used in multicomponent inkjet printing. In this contribution, the use of polyethylene glycol (M = 200 g mol⁻¹), glycerol ethoxylate (M = 1,000 g mol⁻¹), and water (blowing agent) in combination with aliphatic 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate or aromatic methylene diphenyl diisocyanate for reactive inkjet printing is evaluated. The inks are jettable on a Dimatix DMP-3000 inkjet printer using a 10 pL piezo driven drop-on-demand printhead showing stable droplet formation. Solid films on glass are formed using a drop-by-drop printing strategy. Layer-by-Layer strategy gives best results on polycarbonate substrates forming porous polyurethane structures. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2019 , 136, 46977.
