Bioglass (BG) possesses excellent bioactivity and has been widely used in the manufacture of biomaterials. In this study, a composite with different surface bioactivity was fabricated via in situ melting polymerization by incorporating BG and poly(amino acid) (PAA) at a suitable ratio. The structure of the composite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and XRD. The compressive strength of the BG/PAA composites was 139 MPa (BG:PAA = 30:70). The BG/PAA composites were degradable, and higher BG in composite showed higher weight loss after 4 weeks of incubation in simulated body fluid. In addition, the BG/PAA composite maintained adequate residual compressive strength during the degradation period. The SEM results showed the differences in surface bioactivities of the composites directly, and 30BG/PAA composite showed thicker apatite layer and higher Ca/p than 15BG/PAA. in vitro MG-63 cell culture experiments showed that the composite was noncytotoxic and thus allows cells to adhere, proliferate, and differentiate. This indicates that the composite has good biocompatibility. The implantations in the bone defects of rabbits for 4 and 12 weeks were studied. The composites had good biocompatibility and were capable of guiding new bone formation without causing any inflammation. The performance of an attached growth wastewater treatment process was investigated in an effort to improve nitrogen removal
efficiency. Recycled Yakult (lactic acid fermentation drink) bottles made of polystyrene were used as a biofilm media. The
use of Yakult bottles as a biofilm media has been attempted by numerous researchers in Japan for the removal of solids and
organics. However, these studies focused only on the removal of solids and organics. This study extended their application
to the removal of nitrogen for domestic sewage treatment. Yakult media was placed in a reactor with 70% apparent reactor volume
in a conventional A/O process. The bottom of the Yakult media was removed, and randomly filled Yakult media were effectively
able to reduce the flow in tanks, resulting in an increase in the contact time between pollutants and microorganisms. With
higher HRT, the nitrogen removal efficiency was increased by up to 83% with 12 hr of HRT. Nitrification appeared to be the
limiting factor of nitrogen removal at an HRT that is less than 12 hr, indicating that the Yakult process requires more retention
time to achieve nitrification compared to other biofilm processes. The removal efficiencies of organics and solids were high
regardless of the change of operational parameters.

This article discusses the cooling strategies for cryogenic machining from a materials viewpoint. It is argued that, because
different materials respond to temperature and machining processes differently, different cooling strategies are needed to
improve the machinabilities of materials by cryogenic machining. In this work, five workpiece materials such as AISI1010 low-carbon
steel, AISI1070 high-carbon steel, AISIE52100 bearing steel, titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V, and cast aluminum alloy A390 were studied
experimentally at various temperatures. Based on the experimental results of the cryogenic properties of the materials and
their known machining characteristics, the cooling strategies for cryogenic machining of these materials were analyzed. 相似文献
