Microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs) are superconducting detectors capable of counting single photons and measuring their energy in the UV, optical, and near-IR. MKIDs feature intrinsic frequency domain multiplexing (FDM) at microwave frequencies, allowing the construction and readout of large arrays. Due to the microwave FDM, MKIDs do not require the complex cryogenic multiplexing electronics used for similar detectors, such as transition edge sensors, but instead transfer this complexity to room temperature electronics where they present a formidable signal processing challenge. In this paper, we describe the first successful effort to build a readout for a photon counting optical/near-IR astronomical instrument, the ARray Camera for Optical to Near-infrared Spectrophotometry. This readout is based on open source hardware developed by the Collaboration for Astronomy Signal Processing and Electronics Research. Designed principally for radio telescope backends, it is flexible enough to be used for a variety of signal processing applications.  相似文献

The uses of self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) of dipolar molecules or of adsorbed molecular acceptors on electrode materials are common strategies to increase their work function, thereby facilitating hole injection into an organic semiconductor deposited on top. Here it is shown that a combination of both approaches can surpass the performance of the individual ones. By combined experimental and theoretical methods it is revealed that in a three‐component system, consisting of an indium‐tin‐oxide (ITO) electrode, a carbazole‐based phosphonic acid SAM, and a molecular acceptor layer on top of the SAM, charge transfer occurs from the ITO through the SAM to the acceptor layer, resulting in an electrostatic field drop over the charge‐neutral SAM. This result is in contrast to common expectations of either p‐doping the carbazole of the SAM or charge transfer complex formation between the carbazole and the acceptor molecules. A high work function of 5.7 eV is achieved with this combined system; even higher values may be accessible by exploiting the fundamental charge redistribution mechanisms identified here with other material combinations.  相似文献

All‐conjugated block copolymers bring together hole‐ and electron‐conductive polymers and can be used as the active layer of solution‐processed photovoltaic devices, but it remains unclear how molecular structure, morphology, and electronic properties influence performance. Here, the role of the chemical linker is investigated through analysis of two donor–linker–acceptor block copolymers that differ in the chemistry of the linking group. Device studies show that power conversion efficiencies differ by a factor of 40 between the two polymers, and ultrafast transient absorption measurements reveal charge separation only in block copolymers that contain a wide bandgap monomer at the donor–acceptor interface. Optical measurements reveal the formation of a low‐energy excited state when donor and acceptor blocks are directly linked without this wide bandgap monomer. For both samples studied, it is found that the rate of charge recombination in these systems is faster than in poly­mer–polymer and polymer–fullerene blends. This work demonstrates that the linking group chemistry influences charge separation in all‐conjugated block copolymer systems, and further improvement of photovoltaic performance may be possible through optimization of the linking group. These results also suggest that all‐conjugated block copolymers can be used as model systems for the donor–acceptor interface in bulk heterojunction blends.  相似文献

One-dimensional (1D) (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is used extensively for high-throughput analysis of metabolites in biological fluids and tissue extracts. Typically, such spectra are treated as multivariate statistical objects rather than as collections of quantifiable metabolites. We report here a two-dimensional (2D) (1)H-(13)C NMR strategy (fast metabolite quantification, FMQ, by NMR) for identifying and quantifying the approximately 40 most abundant metabolites in biological samples. To validate this technique, we prepared mixtures of synthetic compounds and extracts from Arabidopsis thaliana, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Medicago sativa. We show that accurate (technical error 2.7%) molar concentrations can be determined in 12 min using our quantitative 2D (1)H-(13)C NMR strategy. In contrast, traditional 1D (1)H NMR analysis resulted in 16.2% technical error under nearly ideal conditions. We propose FMQ by NMR as a practical alternative to 1D (1)H NMR for metabolomics studies in which 50-mg (extract dry weight) samples can be obtained.  相似文献

A number of metalloproteins are important medicinal targets for conditions ranging from pathogenic infections to cancer. Many but not all of these metalloproteins contain a zinc(II) ion in the protein active site. Small-molecule inhibitors of these metalloproteins are designed to bind directly to the active site metal ions. In this review several metalloproteins of interest are discussed, including matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), histone deacetylases (HDACs), anthrax lethal factor (LF), and others. Different strategies that have been employed to design effective inhibitors against these proteins are described, with an effort to highlight the strengths and drawbacks of each approach. An emphasis is placed on examining the bioinorganic chemistry of these metal active sites and how a better understanding of the coordination chemistry in these systems may lead to improved inhibitors. It is hoped that this review will help inspire medicinal, biological, and inorganic chemists to tackle this important problem by considering all aspects of metalloprotein inhibitor design.  相似文献

The effect of three alleles (RN(-), rn(+) and a second mutant allele V199I, denoted rn*) at the PRKAG3 (RN) locus on such meat quality traits as pH, internal reflectance (FOP), Warner-Bratzler shear force, water-holding capacity and cooking loss were studied. M. longissimus dorsi (LD) from a total of 334 crossbreed pigs, entire males and females, Hampshire (H) and Finnish Landrace (L) of three combinations H × LH, LH × H and LH × LH, were used. The PRKAG3 alleles were identified with a DNA test and all possible RN genotypes, RN(-)/RN(-) (23%), RN(-)/rn(+) (24%), RN(-)/rn* (33%), rn(+)/rn(+) (8%), rn(+)/rn* (9%) and rn*/rn* (2%), were found. Water, intramuscular fat, protein and glycogen contents were determined. All the three alleles at the RN locus affected the studied technological meat quality traits of pork loin, except for the internal reflectance 24 h post mortem and the shear force. The RN(-) allele was dominant over the other two alleles, rn(+) and rn*, in LD with regard to ultimate pH, water-holding capacity and cooking loss, giving lower ultimate pH and water-holding capacity and higher cooking loss. The rn* allele affected ultimate pH in LD of non-carriers of the RN(-) allele, giving higher ultimate pH. The RN(-) allele was also dominant over the other two alleles in residual glycogen content in entire male pigs, but not in female pigs, where the rn* allele had a glycogen-lowering effect. The water content was higher and the protein content lower in LD of all RN(-)/- animals compared with the other genotypes, while no significant differences were found with regard to IMF content. Water-holding capacity, cooking loss and shear force were higher in LD of entire males compared with females.  相似文献

Poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) is p‐doped by the new soluble dopant molybdenum tris[1‐(methoxycarbonyl)‐2‐(trifluoromethyl)‐ethane‐1,2‐dithiolene] and investigated via photoemission spectroscopy and transport measurements. Soft‐contact transfer lamination of thin layers of the doped P3HT on undoped polymer layers is used to create spatially‐confined doped regions, which serve as hole‐injection contacts on P3HT diodes. This strategy is then used to create efficient hole‐collecting contacts on solution‐processed inverted polymer solar cells.  相似文献
