The need for tissue engineered scaffolds is growing due to a shortage in organ donation, potential immunoreactions to allotransplants, and high cost associated with transplantation. The main focus of this research is concerned with material selection and processing which are key for a successful design of any tissue engineered structure. This work investigates the possibility of reinforcing a weak polypeptide [poly(L ‐lysine)] with a stronger polysaccharide (cellulose) and processing the resulting composite into a porous structure. As the main processing parameters, the effect of pH on the secondary structure of the polypeptide and the effect of the hydrolysis conditions on the properties of commercially available microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) were studied. The significance of the cellulose content as well as the scaffold fabrication conditions on the properties of the composite system was assessed. Overall, PLL/MCC composites showed a lower crystallinity compared to the PLL alone while further hydrolyzed MCC particles (HMCC) showed surface erosion and resulted in a crystallinity increase when incorporated into a composite structure. In today’s fast-paced world, computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems have become a necessary
element in manufacturing industries. Prior to investment in a CAD/CAM system, it is essential for investor to know how to
maximize their benefits from buying a new or by changing an existing CAD/CAM system. The purpose of this study is to provide
a methodology to assist small- and medium-sized manufacturing companies of Pakistan in selecting a CAD/CAM system. It will
also facilitate the software providers in recognizing the current state of affairs as well as preceding problems regarding
the application of CAD/CAM in manufacturing firms when assisting them in choosing the direction for future development simultaneously.
To accomplish this purpose, data have been collected about current CAD/CAM systems. Important criteria for system selection
and parameters for evaluation have also been identified and prioritized. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used as a decision-making

In this paper, a novel beamforming technique is proposed for the high altitude platforms (HAPs) mobile communications to generate
adaptive radio coverage worm-shaped cells to cover the main highways. This technique is based on pattern summation of individual
low-sidelobe narrow beams—which constitute the desired cell pattern—weighted by an adaptive amplitude correcting function.
The new shaped cell differs from the conventional hexagonal or elliptical cells as it follows the curvatures of the highway
for long distances up to 100 km, therefore it has an important role in reducing the frequent handoff and signaling traffic
of location updating from moving users over long highways.

In this research, surface modification of aromatic polyamide thin film composite (TFC) reverse osmosis (RO) membranes was carried out using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma treatment to improve the performance and fouling resistance of prepared RO membranes. First, polyamide TFC RO membranes were synthesized via interfacial polymerization of m‐phenylenediamine and trimesoyl chloride monomers over microporous polysulfone support membrane. Next, the DBD plasma treatment with 15 s, 30 s, 60 s, and 90 s duration was used for surface modification. The surface properties of RO membranes were characterized by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR), SEM, AFM, and contact angle measurements. The ATR‐FTIR results indicated that DBD plasma treatment caused hydrogen bonding on the surface of RO membranes. Also, the contact angle measurement showed that the hydrophilicity of the membranes was increased due to DBD plasma treatment. The changes in the membranes surface morphology indicated that the surface roughness of the membranes was increased after surface modification. In addition, it was found that the DBD plasma treatment increased the water permeation flux significantly and enhanced sodium chloride (NaCl) salt rejection slightly. Moreover, the filtration of bovine serum albumin revealed that the antifouling properties of the modified membranes had been improved. POLYM. ENG. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between teat skin colonization and intramammary infection (IMI) with Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus agalactiae at the quarter level in herds with automatic milking systems. Milk and teat skin samples from 1,142 quarters were collected from 300 cows with somatic cell count >200,000 cells/mL from 8 herds positive for Strep. agalactiae. All milk and teat skin samples were cultured on calf blood agar and selective media. A subset of samples from 287 quarters was further analyzed using a PCR assay (Mastit4 PCR; DNA Diagnostic A/S, Risskov, Denmark). Bacterial culture detected Staph. aureus in 93 (8.1%) of the milk samples and 75 (6.6%) of the teat skin samples. Of these, 15 (1.3%) quarters were positive in both the teat skin and milk samples. Streptococcus agalactiae was cultured in 84 (7.4%) of the milk samples and 4 (0.35%) of the teat skin samples. Of these, 3 (0.26%) quarters were positive in both the teat skin and milk samples. The PCR detected Staph. aureus in 29 (10%) of the milk samples and 45 (16%) of the teat skin samples. Of these, 2 (0.7%) quarters were positive in both the teat skin and milk samples. Streptococcus agalactiae was detected in 40 (14%) of the milk samples and 51 (18%) of the teat skin samples. Of these, 16 (5.6%) quarters were positive in both the teat skin and milk samples. Logistic regression was used to investigate the association between teat skin colonization and IMI at the quarter level. Based on bacterial culture results, teat skin colonization with Staph. aureus resulted in 7.8 (95% confidence interval: 2.9; 20.6) times higher odds of Staph. aureus IMI, whereas herd was observed as a major confounder. However, results from the PCR analyses did not support this association. Streptococcus agalactiae was isolated from the teat skin with both PCR and bacterial culture, but the number of positive teat skin samples detected by culture was too low to proceed with further analysis. Based on the PCR results, Strep. agalactiae on teat skin resulted in 3.8 (1.4; 10.1) times higher odds of Strep. agalactiae IMI. Our results suggest that Staph. aureus and Strep. agalactiae on teat skin may be a risk factor for IMI with the same pathogens. Focus on proper teat skin hygiene is therefore recommended also in AMS. 相似文献

The symmetrical and asymmetrical electrodes made of Mg were studied in 0.1-M NaCl electrolyte adjusted at pH 12. The statistical and wavelet methods were employed for analyzing the electrochemical current noise (ECN) signals. The asymmetric configuration was used for electrochemical detection of filiform corrosion on Mg electrode. The real time scale of the dominant transients of the asymmetric electrodes was detected on the basis of the maximum peak in the SDPS plots. The SDPS values of the real time scale crystals of the ECN signals resulting from asymmetrical electrodes increased with the increase in immersion time due to the onset of filiform corrosion. 相似文献
