We report a bit-rate transparent optical burst switching (OBS) router prototype using a fast 5 times 5 PLZT [(Pb,La)(Zr,Ti)O3 ] optical matrix switch. Dynamic switching in a two-wavelength, 2 times 2 OBS switch is demonstrated. Contention resolution using a tunable Mach-Zehnder interferometer wavelength converter for both 40- and 10-Gb/s bursts is demonstrated for the first time. Multilayer thin-film waveguides (MTFWs) are analyzed using the beam-propagation method based on Yee's mesh. The birefringence properties of the MTFW are demonstrated by the eigenmode analysis based on the imaginary-distance procedure. Taking advantage of the birefringence, a polarization splitter composed of two parallel MTFWs is proposed. Calculation shows that a short device length of 270 mum is obtainable with crosstalks of -33.5 dB for the quasi-transverse-electric mode and -20.7 dB for the quasi-transverse-magnetic mode. A crossing-type polarization splitter is also developed, and the device length is further reduced to 120 mum. 相似文献

A high performance variable speed drive system using current source inverter fed induction motor is described. The principle of the drive control is based on the field-orientation method, where the stator current is used as the vector quantity. To improve the system response and to operate smoothly at low speed, a current pulsewidth modulation (PWM) control is provided by means of a feedback loop. This system operates stably and shows a high dynamic performance in a wide range, from zero to rated speed. It is important to understand friction force in micro/nano mechanical devices both at high sliding speed and with high lateral resolution. Dual-axis friction force microscopes that can provide high lateral resolution and accuracy have been proposed; however, the sliding speed is limited by the probe scan speed. While a micro mechanical probe (MMP) with an electrostatic actuator can overcome this problem, details of probe design have not been established yet. This paper presents the principle of the mechanical design for an MMP with high force sensitivity and sufficient drive force. The dimensions of the double cantilever beam control the spring constants, resonant frequencies, and drive force. The use of an actuated MMP enables accurate friction force microscopy at high sliding speeds, which is required for the design of micro/nano mechanical devices. 相似文献

We focus on an inverse problem for identifying physical parameters such as Young's modulus and air and structural damping coefficients in the mathematical model of cantilevered beams subject to random disturbance, using dynamic noisy data measured on its vibration taken in a nondestructive manner. First, we describe mathematical models of the cantilevered beam by an Euler-Bernoulli type partial differential equation including parameters to be identified and the measurement equation, taking vibration data including the observation noise. Second, the identification problem using random dynamic data is divided into an estimation problem obtaining the (modal) state estimate and a least-squares problem determining unknown parameters, and then the unknown parameters are determined recursively by using the pair of algorithms alternately. Finally, in order to verify the efficacy of the proposed identification algorithm, simulation studies and experiments are shown. 相似文献

In InGaAsP/InP buried heterostructure (BH) lasers, the degradation of BH interface between first- and second-growth step layers can be suppressed by employing the melt back process just before the second-step layer growth. It is confirmed this burying process give more reliable BH lasers than the conventional burying process. From the viewpoint of BH interface degradation, lasers lasing at 1.5 μm, where the melt back process naturally occurs during BH formation, are found to be more reliable than those lasing at 1.3 μm. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: We investigated the long-term prognosis of completely asymptomatic adult patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC). Diagnosis of HC was suspected because of an abnormal electrocardiogram and/or cardiac murmur and confirmed by echocardiography and/or left ventricular angiography, and hemodynamic investigation. BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy shows marked heterogeneity in clinical expression and prognosis. The prognosis of asymptomatic patients with HC has not been fully defined. METHODS: Of 128 consecutive adult patients with HC, 58 asymptomatic patients (Group 1, mean age 42.8 years) and 70 symptomatic patients (Group 2, mean age 50.4 years) were studied to assess cardiac mortality. Mean follow-up periods were 11.0 years for Group 1 and 9.1 years for Group 2. RESULTS: At presentation, Group 1 patients were younger and had smaller left atrial dimensions than did Group 2 patients. The annual cardiac mortality rate and the rate for sudden death alone in Group 1 were significantly lower than in Group 2 (0.9% vs. 1.9%, p < 0.05, 0.1% vs. 1.4%, p < 0.05, respectively). Although about one-third of the survivors in Group 1 had cardiac symptoms at their most recent evaluation, only one patient died suddenly compared with eight in Group 2. The annual mortality rate due to heart failure was similar in each group. Only a syncopal episode was associated with both cardiac death and sudden death for both groups combined. CONCLUSIONS: The cardiac mortality rate for completely asymptomatic adult patients with HC was very low, significantly lower than that of symptomatic patients, and there was a disproportionately low incidence of sudden death. 相似文献

Sec12p is the guanine nucleotide exchange factor of Sar1 GTPase and functions at the very upstream in the vesicle budding reactions from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). We previously identified three yeast loci, RST1, RST2, and RST3, whose mutations suppressed the temperature-sensitive growth of the sec12-4 mutant (Nakano, A. (1996) J. Biochem. (Tokyo) 120, 642-646). In the present study, we cloned the wild-type RST2 gene by complementation of the cold-sensitive phenotype of the rst2-1 mutant. RST2 turned out to be identical to HRR25, a gene encoding a dual-specificity casein kinase I in yeast. The rst2-1 mutation, which is now renamed hrr25-2, was due to the T176I amino acid replacement in the kinase domain. This mutation remedied not only the temperature-sensitive growth but also the defect of ER-to-Golgi protein transport of sec12. Immunoprecipitation of the hemagglutinin-tagged Hrr25-2 protein and a subsequent protein kinase assay showed that the kinase activity of the mutant protein was markedly reduced. The overproduction of another kinase-minus mutant of Hrr25p (Hrr25p K38A) slightly suppressed the growth defect of sec12-4 as well. These observations suggest that the reduction of the kinase activity in the mutant protein is important for the suppression of sec12. We propose that Hrr25p negatively regulates the vesicle budding from the ER. 相似文献
