BACKGROUND This study was designed to describe the phenolic status of lemon juice obtained from fruits of lemon trees differing in iron (Fe) nutritional status. Three types of Fe(III) compound were used in the experiment, namely a synthetic chelate and two complexes derived from natural polymers of humic and lignine nature. RESULTS All three Fe(III) compounds were able to improve the Fe nutritional status of lemon trees, though to different degrees. This Fe(III) compound effect led to changes in the polyphenol content of lemon juice. Total phenolics were decreased (~33% average decrease) and, in particular, flavanones, flavones and flavonols were affected similarly. CONCLUSION Iron‐deficient trees showed higher phenolic contents than Fe(III) compound‐treated trees, though Fe deficiency had negative effects on the yield and visual quality of fruits. However, from a human nutritional point of view and owing to the health‐beneficial properties of their bioavailable phenolic compounds, the nutritional quality of fruits of Fe‐deficient lemon trees in terms of phenolics was higher than that of fruits of Fe(III) compound‐treated lemon trees. Moreover, diosmetin‐6,8‐di‐C‐glucoside in lemon juice can be used as a marker for correction of Fe deficiency in lemon trees. Copyright © 2011 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The occurrence of the natural antioxidant gadusol (3,5,6-trihydroxy-5-hydroxymethyl-2-methoxycyclohex-2-en-1-one) was quantified in fish roes of three species from Argentine Sea: argentine hake (Merluccius hubbsi), brazilian sandperch (Pinguipes brasilianus) and argentinian sandperch (Pseudopercis semifasciata). Significant yields of the compound were found in the sandperchs. The antioxidant activity of the isolated metabolite in aqueous solution was assessed by ORAC and ABTS assays and compared with that of other known natural antioxidants. The results indicate that gadusol is a good breaker of chain reactions carried by peroxyl radicals. Besides, its ability to reduce radicals is comparable to that of ascorbic acid. On this basis, fish roes from brazilian and argentinian sandpearchs are proposed as useful sources of antioxidants for human consumption.  相似文献

On Friday, September 1, 2006, the facilities of a chemicals distributor in the Spanish town of Caldas de Reis, were almost completely destroyed as a result of a fire. Comprehensive liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection (LC-FD) analyses were performed on plant foods to determine the toxic impact of this kind of accident on population. PAHs from a polluted atmosphere are generally transferred to plants by particle-phase deposition on the waxy leaf cuticle or by uptake in the gas phase through stomata. PAH levels in all samples were not alarming (total PAHs were below 4.240 ng/g) and the PAH profiles were similar, with the exception of peppers, in all vegetal materials (5-to-4 rings ratio of 1–2), suggesting the similarity in source type (the fire). PAH concentrations in plants were related to their surface exposed to air, indicating that the contribution of soil/water PAHs to plants (aerial part) accumulation was insignificant.  相似文献

A fast and reliable method for anthocyanin extraction and identification by HPLC‐DAD‐ESI/MS‐QTOF was used to analyse the anthocyanin composition of commercial red fruit juices (blackberry, redcurrant and pomegranate), purees (strawberry, cherry and raspberry) and concentrates (elderberry, blueberry and red grape). The anthocyanin profile of black carrot juice is also reported. The extraction and analysis method allowed us to detect and quantify a wide range of individual anthocyanins in a simple and rapid way. Pelargonidin‐3‐glucoside was detected in redcurrant for the first time and petunidin‐3‐galactoside quantified for the first time in blueberries. Considering the health benefits that have been associated with anthocyanin consumption, all these fruit and vegetables processed products could appear as a good source of this group of phytochemical compounds for their direct consumption or their use as ingredients for the design of new food product or food supplements.  相似文献

Octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX) is a recalcitrant energetic chemical that tends to accumulate in soil, close to the surface. The present study describes the aerobic biodegradability of HMX using Phanerochaete chrysosporium. When added to 7 day old static P. chrysosporium liquid cultures, HMX (600 nmol) degraded within 25 days of incubation. The removal of HMX was concomitant with the formation of transient amounts of its mono-nitroso derivative (1-NO-HMX). The latter apparently degraded via two potential routes: the first involved N-denitration followed by hydrolytic ring cleavage, and the second involved alpha-hydroxylation prior to ring cleavage. The degradation of 1-NO-HMX gave the ring-cleavage product 4-nitro-2,4-diazabutanal (NDAB), nitrite (NO2 -), nitrous oxide (N2O), and formaldehyde (HCHO). Using [14C]-HMX, we obtained 14CO2 (70% in 50 days), representing three C atoms of HMX. Incubation of real soils, contaminated with either HMX (403 micromol kg(-1)) (military base soil) or HMX (3057 micromol kg(-1)), and RDX (342 micromol kg(-1)) (ammunition soil) with the fungus led to 75 and 19.8% mineralization of HMX (liberated 14CO2), respectively, also via the intermediary formation of 1-NO-HMX. Mineralization in the latter soil increased to 35% after the addition of glucose, indicating that a fungus-based remediation process for heavily contaminated soils is promising. The present findings improve our understanding about the degradation pathway of HMX and demonstrate the utility of using the robust and versatile fungus P. chrysosporium to develop effective remediation processes for the removal of HMX.  相似文献

In this study, the evolution of microbial counts, biogenic amine contents, and related parameters (pH, moisture, and proteolysis) in goat cheese made from fresh raw milk or raw milk stored for 48 h at 4 degrees C was examined. In both cases the milk was nonpasteurized. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of milk quality on the profile of biogenic amines in relation to the evolution of the microbial population during cheese making. Cheese made from raw milk stored for 48 h at 4 degrees C showed the highest microbial counts and biogenic amine levels. The storage of milk under refrigeration caused significant increases in the levels of some microbial and biogenic amines during ripening, but not initially. Tyramine was the main biogenic amine in the two cheeses tested, followed by cadaverine. However, the main differences in amine contents between batches were found for putrescine, histamine, and beta-phenylethylamine, whose levels were more than twofold higher in samples from raw milk refrigerated for 48 h than in samples from fresh milk.  相似文献

To identify new genes involved in acetate uptake in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, an analysis of the gene expression profiles of cells shifted from glucose to acetic acid was performed. The gene expression reprogramming of yeast adapting to a poor non-fermentable carbon source was observed, including dramatic metabolic changes, global activation of translation machinery, mitochondria biogenesis and the induction of known or putative transporters. Among them, the gene ADY2/YCR010c was identified as a new key element for acetate transport, being homologous to the Yarrowia lipolytica GPR1 gene, which has a role in acetic acid sensitivity. Disruption of ADY2 in S. cerevisiae abolished the active transport of acetate. Microarray analyses of ady2Delta strains showed that this gene is not a critical regulator of acetate response and that its role is directly connected to acetate transport. Ady2p is predicted to be a membrane protein and is a valuable acetate transporter candidate.  相似文献

An integrated cellular response to DNA damage is essential for the maintenance of genome integrity. Recently, post-translational modifications to histone proteins have been implicated in DNA damage responses involving the Rad9 family of checkpoint proteins. In budding yeast, methylation of histone H3 on lysine 79 (H3-K79me) has been shown to be required for efficient checkpoint signalling and Rad9 localization on chromatin. Here, we have used a rad9 Tudor mutant allele and cells mutated for Dot1, the H3-K79 methylase, to analyse the epistatic relationship between RAD9 and DOT1 genes regarding the DNA damage resistance and checkpoint activation pathways. Our results show that RAD9 is epistatic to DOT1 and suggest that it acts downstream of the Dot1 methylase in the damage resistance and checkpoint response. We have also found that the Tudor domain of Rad9 is necessary for in vitro binding to H3-K79me as well as Rad9 focal accumulation in response to DNA damage in vivo. In summary, our study demonstrates that the interaction between Rad9, via its Tudor domain, and methylated H3-K79 is required at two different steps of the DNA damage response, an early step corresponding to checkpoint activation, and a late step corresponding to DNA repair. The study further shows that the function of this interaction is cell cycle-regulated; the role in checkpoint activation is restricted to the G(1) phase and its role in DNA repair is restricted to G(2).  相似文献

The tryptophan content of nine samples of commercial feed was determined using two procedures (I and II) differing mainly in the hydrolysis conditions used prior to analysis. With I, hydrolysis was performed with 4 M LiOH in the presence of maltodextrin with 5-methyltryptophan used as internal standard at 110°C for 24 h; with II. oxygen-free 1.3 M Ba(OH)2 was used at 125°C for 16 h. The two procedures gave identical results for a given sample indicating that the corrections for the incomplete recovery of tryptophan 5-methyltryptophan quantitation were satisfactory.  相似文献

This article presents a study of the catalytic performance of Ni, Co, and Ni–Co–Mg–Al mixed oxides obtained from hydrotalcite precursors for the oxidative steam reforming of ethanol (OSRE) when no pretreatment (pre-reduction) is accomplished. Two catalysts (a Ni-based monometallic and an equimolar Ni–Co-based catalyst) achieve in situ reduction over shorter time periods compared with the other bimetallic catalysts and also, exhibit the best catalytic activity. On the contrary, the monometallic Co catalyst did not exhibit good catalytic performance, likely because of the existence of resistant spinel phases to soft reduction processes and/or to the re-oxidation of Co. The equimolar presence of Ni and Co generates a synergistic effect evidenced by the increase in the reducibility, basicity, and mobility of electrophilic oxygen species of the solid. The results yield important information for better understanding the catalytic system under study.  相似文献
