Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS’s) represent a subgroup of lysosomal storage diseases related to a deficiency of enzymes that catalyze glycosaminoglycans degradation. Mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by a deficiency of α-l-iduronidase encoded by the IDUA gene. Partially degraded heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate accumulate progressively and lead to multiorgan dysfunction and damage. The aim of this study is to describe the clinical, biochemical, and molecular characteristics of 13 Algerian patients from 11 distinct families. MPS I diagnosis was confirmed by molecular study of the patients’ IDUA gene. Clinical features at the diagnosis and during the follow-up are reported. Eighty-four percent of the studied patients presented with a mild clinical phenotype. Molecular study of the IDUA gene allowed the characterization of four pathological variations at the homozygous or compound heterozygote status: IDUA NM_00203.4:c.1598C>G-p.(Pro533Arg) in 21/26 alleles, IDUA NM_00203.4:c.532G>A-p.(Glu178Lys) in 2/26 alleles, IDUA NM_00203.4:c.501C>G-p.(Tyr167*) in 2/26 alleles, and IDUA NM_00203. 4: c.1743C>G-p.(Tyr581*) in 1/26 alleles. This molecular study unveils the predominance of p.(Pro533Arg) variation in our MPS I patients. In this series, the occurrence of some clinical features linked to the Scheie syndrome is consistent with the literature, such as systematic valvulopathies, corneal opacity, and umbilical hernia; however, storage signs, facial dysmorphic features, and hepatomegaly were more frequent in our series. Screening measures for these debilitating diseases in highly consanguineous at-risk populations must be considered a priority health problem. 相似文献

Monolithic sol–gel silica composites incorporating platinum‐based chromophores and various types of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are prepared and polished to high optical quality. Their photophysical properties are investigated. The glass materials show well‐defined localized surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorbance from the visible to NIR. No redshifts of the AuNP plasmon absorption peaks due to the increase in nanoparticle doping concentration are observed in the glasses, proving that no or very small SPR coupling effects occur between the AuNPs. At 600 nm excitation, but not at 532 nm, the AuNPs improve the nonlinear absorption performance of glasses codoped with 50 × 10?3 m of a Pt‐acetylide chromophore. The glasses doped with lower concentrations of AuNPs (2–5 μm average distance) and 50 × 10?3 m in chromophore, show a marked improvement in nonlinear absorption, with no or only small improvement for the more highly AuNP doped glasses. This study shows the importance of excitation wavelength and nanoparticle concentration for composite systems employing AuNPs to improve two‐photon absorption of chromophores. 相似文献

The greenhouse gas mitigation potential of different economic sectors in three world regions are estimated using a bottom-up approach. These estimates provide updates of the numbers reported in the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR4). This study is part of a larger project aimed at comparing greenhouse gas mitigation potentials from bottom-up and top-down approaches. The sectors included in the analysis are energy supply, transport, industry and the residential and service sector. The mitigation potentials range from 11 to 15 GtCO2eq. This is 26–38% of the baseline in 2030 and 47–68% relative to the year 2000. Potential savings are estimated for different cost levels. The total potential at negative costs is estimated at 5–8% relative to the baseline, with the largest share in the residential and service sector and the highest reduction percentage for the transport and industry sectors. These (negative) costs include investment, operation and maintenance and fuel costs and revenues at moderate discount rates of 3–10%. At costs below 100 US$/tCO2, the largest potential reductions in absolute terms are estimated in the energy supply sector, while the transport sector has the lowest reduction potential. 相似文献

Metal vaporization experiments were carried out in an atmospheric fluidized bed to study the influence of operating conditions on the extent of heavy metal (HM) release in fumes from municipal solid waste incinerators. Modelwastes spiked with compounds of Pb, Cd, and Zn were used. The parameters studied were temperature, treatment duration, matrix of the model waste (mineral and organic), HM initial speciation, and gas composition (N2, air, air + HCl, gas mixture simulating the incinerators). The extent of vaporization was measured by solid sample analysis and on-line analysis of the gaseous effluent, after customization of the ICP technique for gas analysis. The results indicate the metal vaporization rate is very high initially and then slows. The results with mineral matrices give the decreasing order of volatility Cd > Pb > Zn, but in industrial incinerators Zn volatilizes slightly more than Pb. Temperature (especially for porous alumina) and mineral matrix have a strong influence on the HM vaporization, but HCl concentration and HM initial speciation do not. The gas composition and the initial metal concentration are significant parameters. The matrix influence clearly denoted the mass transfer limitations in the vaporization process from mineral matrix. 相似文献

The goal of this research was the creation of an adaptation mechanism for the delivery of three-dimensional content. The adaptation of content, for various network and terminal capabilities – as well as for different user preferences, is a key feature that needs to be investigated. Current state-of-the art research of the adaptation shows promising results for specific tasks and limited types of content, but is still not well-suited for massive heterogeneous environments. In this research, we present a method for transmitting adapted three-dimensional content to multiple target devices. This paper presents some theoretical and practical methods for adapting three-dimensional content, which includes shapes and animation. Esterification of lactic acid with butanol catalysed by cation-exchange resin was carried out in a batch reactor in dioxane and toluene. The reaction rate was found to be first order with respect to catalyst and acid concentrations. The inhibiting effect of water and butanol has been evaluated. Hard carbon coatings hold the key to improved performance for many types of products. However the achievement of these improvements requires the selection of the appropriate type of carbon coating and therefore the correct process and appropriate deposition parameters. The huge range of properties achievable in carbon coatings is mainly due to the ability of carbon to form different types of interatomic bonds, to take up different sites, and to adopt different structures. In addition to intrinsic material properties, other factors must also be considered for each application, such as the adhesion level achievable and coating cost. This complex situation explains why the number of applications for hard carbon films is still more limited than originally expected. Despite the considerable progress achieved during the last decade in hard coating technologies, practical results often appear conflicting, with differences in properties occurring even within the same types of coatings. Furthermore, the many different deposition systems and processes which have been developed introduce further complications in regard to (for example) achievable coating uniformity and deposition rates. Thus, there is often confusion in the use of certain fundamental principles, especially regarding the growth mechanisms and the effects which produce more dense homogeneous and stable coating materials. This is especially true for the improved properties of tetrahedral amorphous carbon films, which are different from previously reported diamond-like carbon materials, and can be created by adapting and improving existing industrial processes, to offer advantages compared to earlier coatings, and hence possibilities for important new applications. This paper discusses issues relating to intrinsic material properties, and practical aspects such as adhesion, to provide a framework for the development, selection and use of hard carbon coatings in practical situations. 相似文献

Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) optical and infrared data are used to monitor changes in the Caspian Sea coastline. The information extracted from MODIS images is converted into total water volume and mean lake level by combining a digital elevation model (DEM) with remote-sensing data. The elevation estimates were enhanced by reprocessing the MODIS data at the sub-pixel scale. The water volume variations estimated from MODIS data along with DEM are compared to other estimations derived from altimetry data sets, and show fair agreement. 相似文献
