The increasing interest of supercritical (SC) fluids for inorganic materials synthesis recently stimulated the development of innovative synthesis processes and strategies. The supercritical CO2 aided sol–gel process, developed for preparing various ceramic oxide powders with attractive applications in cosmetics, chromatography, catalysis or solid oxide fuel cells, usually suffer from both reproducibility problems and poor knowledge of the key parameters defining the final powder characteristics. In the present work a specific effort has been put on the understanding of reaction mechanisms and process parameters like co-solvent polarity and ageing time of the starting solution, which appeared to play a crucial role for the control of powder characteristics. Two different reaction mechanisms have been proposed to explain the formation of tetragonal yttria-doped zirconia powders by a batch process in either CO2/pentane or CO2/isopropanol mixtures. The first mechanism corresponds to a CO2 anti-solvent precipitation process while the other one is based on a condensation reaction as in the conventional sol–gel process. This improved understanding in particle formation allows better control of powder characteristics and reproducibility.  相似文献

In this work we quantify and characterise the effects of air-oxidation on nitrogen-vacancy defect luminescence in both high-temperature-high-pressure and detonation synthesized nanodiamonds using Raman and luminescence spectroscopies. We find that oxidation treatments result in an increased nitrogen-vacancy centre excited state lifetime from 13 ns to 25 ns and in 5-nm diamonds the intensity of this luminescence increases by at least 5-fold. At the same time, in 5-nm diamonds, short lived surface-defect related luminescence is reduced by 10-fold. Furthermore we find that air oxidation reduces the sp2 and disordered carbon fraction of nanodiamonds by up to 5-fold in 5-nm nanodiamonds. Based on these results, the authors suggest that the disordered-carbon and graphite shell of 5-nm nanodiamonds quenches nitrogen-vacancy luminescence, and that this quenching can be partially reduced by surface oxidation. These findings provide useful insights into the role of the graphite and disordered carbon shell in quenching luminescence, and have implications for the applicability of 5-nm nanodiamonds to bio- and quantum physics applications.  相似文献

Dihydroxytelechelic copolyalkenamers were prepared via metathetical polymerization of cyclic olefins (cyclooctadiene, cyclooctene and cyclododecene) in presence of first generation Grubbs catalyst and butene diacetate as functionalizing chain transfer agent in order to study their aging resistance. The influence of compositions and molar masses of the copolyalkenamers were investigated in terms of thermo‐mechanical properties. Increasing chains length or the proportion of polycyclooctadiene allow to get non‐cristalline polymers. Low Tg materials (between ?78°C and ?108°C) were prepared. The resistance towards oxidation of the different copolyalkenamers was carried out using a viscosity measurement method. A critical time, corresponding to a brutal increase of the apparent viscosity, was related to degradation of the polymers and was shown to be dependent on the Csp2 proportion in the structure. The absence of vinylic units and the decrease of the double bonds content within the copolymers were proved to enhance the stability of the copolyalkenamers towards aging resistance. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

For the possible energy savings and extension of the volume capacity, the monolithic lining of a channel induction furnace was optimised in the following manner. Orthogonal array method is utilised to systematically design the lining concepts, and the finite element simulations including the temperature dependent properties of monoliths are carried out to determine the temperatures and stresses during the preheating and holding. In terms of the main effect analysis materials for the monolithic lining are recommended. Moreover, a thickness–thickness–temperature isothermal map is provided to show the acceptable thickness range of working and insulating linings. Nevertheless, for the final decision the deliberate consideration for the cost effectiveness of a certain lining concept is also necessary.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The mechanism behind the antiviral action of interferon (IFN) therapy in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is not well understood, and, furthermore, few factors have been shown to be good predictors of a favourable response to IFN treatment in chronic HCV infection. METHODS: Freshly explanted liver cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from 80 patients with chronic HCV infection were used to study the capacity of IFN to induce the enzyme 2',5'-oligoadenylate synthetase (2'5'-AS) in vitro. The HCV genotype was determined in 53 patients. The induction of 2'5'-AS was correlated to the results of IFN-alpha treatment in 36 patients. RESULTS: Normalization of transaminases during IFN treatment was significantly associated with 2'5'-AS levels in liver cells cultured in the absence of IFN. A similar tendency, although not statistically significant, was found for IFN-induced levels of 2'5'-AS in liver cells. No such associations were found when PBMC were analysed. Six patients showed a sustained biochemical response. These six did not deviate significantly from the remaining patients with regard to base-line or IFN-induced levels of 2'5'-AS in liver cells or PBMC. Eradication of HCV RNA during IFN treatment did not correlate with 2'5'-AS levels in liver cells. Comparison of HCV genotype and clinical response showed that patients with genotype 3a had the most favourable outcome. No association was found between liver histology and treatment outcome. CONCLUSION: These data imply that direct effects of IFN on liver cells are of importance for the response to IFN treatment.  相似文献

Serotonergic neuronal networks are important for food intake and body weight regulation. Dexfenfluramine (dF), a serotonin releaser and reuptake inhibitor, was used to investigate changes in food intake, body weight development, energy expenditure, respiratory quotient, and substrate oxidation rates for 12 days. Rats, which had been made obese by early postnatal overfeeding, received an energy-controlled mash diet and water ad lib and were intraperitoneally injected daily with either saline, 5 or 10 mg dF/kg. Compared to controls, food intake, body weight development, and energy expenditure were decreased in a dose-dependent manner, especially during the first 6 days. Lipid oxidation was increased while oxidation of carbohydrates was decreased. Pair-feeding experiments over 2 days revealed that this was not solely a result of diminished food intake but also an additional metabolic effect of dF, different from its anorectic effect. At the end of these experiments, plasma glucose and liver glycogen were unchanged after dF, but plasma free fatty acids were significantly decreased. Insulin-sensitivity was probably improved, indicated by decreased insulin levels and increases in muscle glycogen contents and activities of muscle pyruvate kinase. Liver-glutamine and contents of valine, leucine, and isoleucine in the muscle were significantly decreased after dF-treatment, the latter indicating a diminished proteolysis. The plasma tryptophan/large neutral amino acids ratio of the dF-rats was unchanged but that of the paired-fed rats was changed, despite similar changes in food intake. It is concluded that both increased oxidation of endogenous fat and reduced food intake could mediate the body weight reducing effect of dF.  相似文献

Three methods are presented for the determination of external surface of large lipid vesicles of different lamellarity with 2% absolute accuracy. These methods (referred to as EPR, NBD and TNBS assays) use different marker lipids which provide signals (electron paramagnetic resonance, fluorescence of N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl) residues, and UV absorption increase of 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid after reaction with aminolipids, respectively). The signals change upon addition of different membrane-impermeant reagents due to reaction with marker lipids at the external vesicle surface. They were applied to the same vesicle samples, including unilamellar and multilamellar vesicles, both at two different lipid compositions. External surface data matched for the three assays within 2%, but only after appropriate redesign or adaptation of so far published procedures. Main improvements related to slow influx of reagents (TNBS and NBD assays) or to redistribution of marker lipids (EPR assay), obscuring determination of outer vesicle surface from fast reaction between reagent and readily accessible marker lipids. Furthermore, suitable strategies were found to obtain accurate 100% values (reaction of all marker lipids present), required to relate external vesicle surface to total surface. This included corrections for light scattering (NBD assay) and for turbidity (TNBS assay). These three methods appear to close a gap in the methodology to determine external surface of vesicles for typical practical needs. In particular, the reliability range of the NBD assay could be extended to marker lipid densities as low as 1 marker lipid per 3000 lipids.  相似文献

Carbohydrate-based sensors, that specifically detect sugar binding molecules or cells, are increasingly important in medical diagnostic and drug screening. Here we demonstrate that cantilever arrays functionalized with different mannosides allow the real-time detection of several Escherichia coli strains in solution. Cantilever deflection is thereby dependent on the bacterial strain studied and the glycan used as the sensing molecule. The cantilevers exhibit specific and reproducible deflection with a sensitivity range over four orders of magnitude.  相似文献
