In this study, TiO2 coatings were deposited by suspension plasma spraying (SPS) from a commercial TiO2 nanoparticle suspension on two different substrates: a standard stainless steel and a Pyrex glass. Coatings were sprayed on both substrates with an F4-MB monocathode torch; a Triplex Pro tricathode torch was also used to spray coatings just on the stainless steel substrates. Spraying distance and cooling were varied.The anatase content in the coatings, determined by XRD, ranged from 32 to 72 wt.%. A significant amount of anatase to rutile transformation was found to occur during cooling. Examination of the microstructure revealed that the coating microstructure was bimodal, involving a non-molten region consisting mainly of anatase nanoparticle agglomerates and a molten region. The glass substrate coatings displayed a segregated phase distribution, particularly when the surface to be coated was cooled. Photocatalytic activity was determined by a methylene blue test.The experimental data fitted well to a first-order kinetic. All the coatings exhibited high photocatalytic activity in comparison with that of a commercial sol–gel coating. However, unlike much of the previous research, photocatalytic activity did not correlate with the anatase content determined by XRD.  相似文献

Effective network monitoring is vital for a growing number of control and management applications typically found in present-day networks. The ever-increasing link speeds and the complexity of monitoring applications’ needs have exposed severe limitations of existing monitoring techniques. A majority of the current monitoring tasks require only a small subset of all observed packets, which share some common properties such as identical header fields or similar patterns in their data. In order to capture only these useful packets, a large set of expressions needs to be evaluated. This evaluation should be done as efficiently as possible when monitoring multi-gigabit networks. To speed up this packet classification process, this article presents different packet filter optimization techniques. Complementary to existing approaches, we propose an adaptive optimization algorithm which dynamically reconfigures the filter expressions based on the currently observed traffic pattern. The performance of the algorithms is validated both analytically and by means of the implementation in a network monitoring framework. The various characteristics of the algorithms are investigated, including their performance in an operational network intrusion detection system.  相似文献

For the first time in literature, this study compares the process-induced chemical reactions in three industrially relevant green vegetables: broccoli, green pepper and spinach treated with thermal and high pressure high temperature (HPHT) processing. Aiming for a fair comparison, the processing conditions were selected based on the principle of equivalence. A comprehensive integration of MS-based metabolic fingerprinting techniques, advanced data preprocessing and statistical data analysis has been implemented as untargeted/unbiased multiresponse screening tool to uncover changes in the volatile fraction. For all vegetables, thermal processing, compared to HPHT, seems to enhance Maillard and Strecker degradation reaction, triggering the formation of furanic compounds and Strecker aldehydes. In most cases, high pressure seems to accelerate (an)aerobic thermal degradation of unsaturated fatty acids leading to the formation of aliphatic aldehydes and ketones. In addition, both thermal and HPHT processing accelerated the formation of sulfur-containing compounds. This work demonstrated that the approach is effective in identifying and comparing different process-induced chemical changes, adding depth to our perspective in terms of studying a highly complex chemical changes occurring during food processing.  相似文献

There is a considerable interest nowadays in improving energy efficiency of wireless telecommunications. The sleep-mode mechanism in WiMAX (IEEE 802.16) and the discontinuous reception (DRX) mechanism of LTE are prime examples of energy saving measures. Recently, Samsung proposed some modifications on the sleep-mode mechanism, scheduled to appear in the forthcoming IEEE 802.16m standard, aimed at minimizing the signaling overhead. In this work, we present a performance analysis of this proposal and clarify the differences with the standard mechanism included in IEEE 802.16e. We also propose some special algorithms aimed at reducing the computational complexity of the analysis.  相似文献

This study investigates which crash characteristics influence the probability that the crash is reported in the television news. To this purpose, all news items from the period 2006–2012 about traffic crashes from the prime time news of two Belgian television channels are linked to the official injury crash database. Logistic regression models are built for the database of all injury crashes and for the subset of fatal crashes to identify crash characteristics that correlate with a lower or higher probability of being reported in the news.  相似文献

Although many countries have had considerable success in reducing traffic injuries over recent decades, there are still some fundamental problems in this area. At the same time, there is increasing focus on road safety research and policy development in the context of globalisation, sustainability, liveability and health. This special section presents a selection of papers that were presented at the annual ICTCT workshop held on the 8th and 9th of November 2012 in Hasselt, Belgium, and accepted for publication in Accident Analysis and Prevention following the journal's reviewing procedure. The aim of the ICTCT workshop was to analyse road safety facts, data and visions for the future in the wider context of current issues and future challenges in road safety.  相似文献

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of the IEEE 802.16e sleep mode mechanism in wireless access networks. This mechanism reduces the energy consumption of a mobile station (MS) by allowing it to turn off its radio interface (sleep mode) when there is no traffic present at its serving base station (BS). After a sleep period expires, the MS briefly checks the BS for data packets and switches off for the duration of another sleep period if none are available. Specifically for IEEE 802.16e, each additional sleep period doubles in length, up to a certain maximum. Clearly, the sleep mode mechanism can extend the battery life of the MS considerably, but also increases the delay at the BS buffer. For the performance analysis, we use a discrete-time queueing model with general service times and multiple server vacations. The vacations represent the sleep periods and have a length depending on the number of preceding vacations. Unlike previous studies, we take the (short-range) traffic correlation into account by assuming a D-BMAP arrival process, i.e. the distribution of the number of packet arrivals per slot is modulated by the transitions in a Markov chain with N background states. As results, we obtain the distribution of the number of packets in the queue at various sets of time epochs, the distribution of the packet delay and the antenna activity rate. We apply these results to the IEEE 802.16e sleep mode mechanism with correlated downlink traffic. By means of some examples, we show the influence of both the configuration parameters and the traffic correlation on the delay and the energy consumption.  相似文献

In this contribution, we investigate the performance of the output buffer of an ‘on-demand’ video streaming server. The server maintains a local database of stored video clips and movies which can be streamed to the users upon request. We assume that the stored video is encoded in a scalable way, which means that the data streams contain a base layer ensuring a minimum of guaranteed quality and a stack of additional enhancement layers progressively improving the quality of the video. For the purpose of performance analysis, we assume that a video stream is split up in logical units called frames. Every frame consists of a number of packets, each containing information of one layer only. When the output buffer gets congested, one may choose to drop the transmission of some of the layers in a frame, thus reducing the frame transmission time and expediting the restoration of the buffer size to normal levels. A discrete-time finite capacity queueing model with buffer size dependent transmission times is proposed. Using a probability generating function approach, we focus on the characteristics of idle and busy periods. We obtain performance measures such as the frame loss ratio and the average frame transmission time. The latter measure relates to the quality of the video stream. We conclude with some numerical examples, including a realistic case study.  相似文献

The severity of 1491 crashes on 148 roundabouts in Flanders-Belgium was examined in order to investigate which factors might explain the severity of crashes or injuries and to relate these factors to the existing knowledge about contributing factors for injury severity in traffic. Logistic regression and hierarchical binomial logistic regression techniques were used.A clear externality of risk appeared to be present in the sense that vulnerable road user groups (pedestrians, bicyclists, moped riders and motorcyclists) are more severely affected than others. Fatalities or serious injuries in multiple-vehicle crashes for drivers of four-wheel vehicles are much rarer.Injury severity increases with higher age. Crashes at night and crashes outside built-up areas are more severe. Single-vehicle crashes seem to have more severe outcomes than multiple-vehicle crashes. However, systematic differences in the reporting rate of crashes are likely to exist and may have affected the stated results. Correlations with important, but unobserved variables like the impact speeds in the crashes might exist as well and could provide an alternative explanation for some results.  相似文献
