Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) and progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, no effective therapeutic intervention has been established for ischemic AKI. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have major roles in the maintenance of vascular integrity and the repair of endothelial damage; they also serve as therapeutic agents in various kidney diseases. Thus, we examined whether EPCs have a renoprotective effect in an IRI mouse model. Mice were assigned to sham, EPC, IRI-only, and EPC-treated IRI groups. EPCs originating from human peripheral blood were cultured. The EPCs were administered 5 min before reperfusion, and all mice were killed 72 h after IRI. Blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, and tissue injury were significantly increased in IRI mice; EPCs significantly improved the manifestations of IRI. Apoptotic cell death and oxidative stress were significantly reduced in EPC-treated IRI mice. Administration of EPCs decreased the expression levels of NLRP3, cleaved caspase-1, p-NF-κB, and p-p38. Furthermore, the expression levels of F4/80, ICAM-1, RORγt, and IL-17RA were significantly reduced in EPC-treated IRI mice. Finally, the levels of EMT-associated factors (TGF-β, α-SMA, Snail, and Twist) were significantly reduced in EPC-treated IRI mice. This study shows that inflammasome-mediated inflammation accompanied by immune modulation and fibrosis is a potential target of EPCs as a treatment for IRI-induced AKI and the prevention of progression to CKD.  相似文献

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membranes have been widely used in microfiltration and ultrafiltration because of their excellent chemical resistance and thermal properties. However, PVDF membranes have exhibited severe membrane fouling because of their hydrophobic properties. In this study, we investigated the antifouling properties of PVDF blended membranes. Antifouling PVDF blended membranes were prepared with a PVDF‐g‐poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (POEM) graft copolymer. The PVDF‐g‐POEM graft copolymer was synthesized by the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method. The chemical structure and properties of the synthesized PVDF‐g‐POEM graft copolymer were determined by NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography. To investigate the antifouling properties of the membranes, we prepared microfiltration membranes by using the phase‐inversion method, which uses various PVDF/PVDF‐g‐POEM concentrations in dope solutions. The pure water permeabilities were obtained at various pressures. The PVDF/PVDF‐g‐POEM blended membranes exhibited no irreversible fouling in the dead‐end filtration of foulants, including bovine serum albumin, sodium alginate, and Escherichia coli broth. However, the hydrophobic PVDF membrane exhibited severe fouling in comparison with the PVDF/PVDF‐g‐POEM blended membranes. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

The combination of antenna array beamforming with multiuser detection can effectively improve the detection efficiency of a wireless system under multipath interference, especially in a fast‐fading channel. This paper studies the performance of an adaptive beamformer incorporated with a block‐wise minimum mean square error(B‐MMSE) detector, which works on a unique signal frame characterized by training sequence preamble and data blocks segmented by zero‐bits. Both beam‐former weights updating and B‐MMSE detection are carried out by either least mean square (LMS) or recursive least square (RLS) algorithm. The comparison of the two adaptive algorithms applied to both beamformer and B‐MMSE detector will be made in terms of convergence behaviour and estimation mean square error. Various multipath patterns are considered to test the receiver's responding rapidity to changing multipath interference. The performance of the adaptive B‐MMSE detector is also compared with that of non‐adaptive version (i.e. through direct matrix inversion). The final performance in error probability simulation reveals that the RLS/B‐MMSE scheme outperforms non‐adaptive B‐MMSE by 1–5 dB, depending on the multipath channel delay profiles of concern. The obtained results also suggest that adaptive beamformer should use RLS algorithm for its fast and robust convergence property; while the B‐MMSE filter can choose either LMS or RLS algorithm depending on antenna array size, multipath severity and implementation complexity. An analytical method for analyzing high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images is presented. The method is composed of two major parts: digital image processing and lattice fringe characterization. The digital image processing is composed of the following operations: negative transformation, region of interest (ROI) selection, contrast enhancement, Gaussian lowpass filter, top-hat transformation (used to correct uneven illumination across an image), thresholding to obtain a binary image, morphological modification, clearing fringes on the ROI border, skeletonization, and removing short fringes that lack physical meaning. These operations are defined by equations with effects illustrated by images. The lattice fringe characterization generates statistics on fringe length, tortuosity, and separation based on the skeletons of the graphene layers. Fringe length and tortuosity are obtained automatically from the features of the skeletons, while fringe separation is obtained by analyzing manually selected fringe pairs. The algorithms are implemented within MATLAB, and demonstrated upon an exemplary HRTEM image of carbonaceous material. The image analysis algorithm permits quantitative HRTEM, here specifically addressing nanostructure of carbonaceous materials.  相似文献

Distrust hinders disputing parties and mediators from achieving mediation success. Mediators therefore often use different trust-building tactics to generate some degree of trust in themselves and in the mediation process. This paper reports a study that identified the trust-building tactics used by construction mediators and examined the efficacy of these tactics with respect to their outcomes. Three study stages were designed. With reference to the mediation model of Sloan (1998), trust-building tactics and outcomes were first identified in Stage I. Next, the data were collected from accredited mediators with a questionnaire survey in Stage II. The collected data were then validated via reliability assessments in Stage III. With the use of multiple regression analyses, the efficacy of the trust-building tactics was examined by relating these tactics to their outcomes. The findings of this study suggest that the trust-building tactics used in Step 4 (i.e., explore interests) of Sloan’s (1998) mediation model are influential in developing trust among disputing parties and that they can also act as a time-saving tool in the mediation process. Furthermore, it was found that mediators can earn trust by adopting the trust-building tactics used in Step 3 (i.e., issues and trust) of Sloan’s (1998) model. These tactics can also serve to improve the relationships between the disputing parties. The results show that the trust-building tactics used in the final step (i.e., solutions) of Sloan’s (1998) model seem to have low efficacy in developing trust among disputing parties.  相似文献

A modular gas-cooled reactor design with a thermal output of 600 MWt and a core exit temperature of 950 °C has been designed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute based on the GT-MHR reactor concept which adopts a prismatic core. A sensitivity study on the transient plant behavior during a postulated depressurized LOFC accident concurrent with the failure of the RCCS was performed. In the transient analysis, the GAMMA+ code which can handle multi-dimensional, multicomponent problems was used. The RCCS is a passive system which is very reliable and supplies a significant heat removal mechanism during abnormal conditions in a GCR. To investigate the safety characteristics of a GCR under the one of the worst accidental scenarios, a simultaneous failure of the RCCS with a depressurized LOFC was assumed. The thermal behavior of the reactor system was analyzed in various conditions. It is found that the maximum temperature of the reactor fuel compact could exceed 1600 °C at about 50 h at the condition of a depressurized LOFC with a failure of the RCCS. A problem with the structural integrity of the reactor pressure vessel could also be a critical factor. The insulation of a reactor cavity wall serves as a dominant obstacle against a heat transfer from the reactor vessel to the surrounding ground when the RCCS fails to operate. Without insulation material on the reactor cavity wall, the gradients of the increasing rate of the maximum temperature diminish and the peak values decrease. The maximum temperatures of the fuel compact and the reactor vessel are less sensitive to the concrete and surrounding soil properties, those are the thermal conductivity and volumetric heat capacity, when the insulation material is used. The uncertainties in the properties of the concrete and the surrounding soil become significant without an insulation material in the cavity. To improve the safety of a modular GCR, more effective and feasible heat removal mechanism need to be devised based on the comprehensions on the heat transfer characteristics.  相似文献

Thin silver film is widely used as the cathode in organic light-emitting diode displays and it is generally fabricated using the thermal evaporation method. But during the evaporation process, there is an inevitable outgassing problem and this creates high viscosity bubbles in melted silver. When the bubbles break, the high energy released scatters silver droplets which damage the silver surface. In this study, we were able to decrease the number of droplets from 6,171 to 278 with a degassing process of 400 °C for 6 h before proceeding with a thermal evaporation process.  相似文献

To improve the input-output coupling loss of a vertically coupled microring resonator filter, we fabricated microring resonators on an antiresonant reflecting optical waveguide (ARROW) with a large spot size and on the rectangular busline waveguide with a spot-size transformer. The spot size and the tapered structure were optimally designed from the viewpoint of spot-size matching to single-mode fibers and the reduction of radiation loss. Clear dropping responses were demonstrated for the ARROW-based microring resonator filters, and the coupling loss was successfully reduced by 22 dB.  相似文献
