ABSTRACT: Our knowledge about the metabolism of alkylcyclobutanones (2-ACBs) is limited, and the lack of literature on the metabolism of 2-ACBs causes consumers to doubt the safety of irradiated foods. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the metabolism of 2-dodecylcyclobutanone (2-DCB) and identify any possible metabolite. The 2-DCB was mixed with rat S9 (postmitochondrial supernatant fraction) and β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) and incubated for 2 h at 37 °C. Then, the incubation mixture was mixed with sodium sulfate and extracted with n-hexane by using a Soxhlet apparatus. The hexane extract was concentrated under nitrogen and injected into the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) machine running in selective ion monitoring mode (SIM) to measure 2-DCB concentration. The hexane extract from the in vitro and in vivo studies was also derivatized with a silylation reagent and injected into a GC-MS running in full scan mode. The average percentage of 2-DCB recovered from the test incubations was 23%, compared with 50% from the controls. The GC-MS chromatograms of the derivatized samples showed a unique peak in the in vitro test incubations and in the hexane extract of the rat feces that were given 2-DCB. This peak was later identified as 2-doecylcyclobutanol.  相似文献

Needle-shaped crystals of sizes up to 5 μm × 5 μm × 40 μm of nominal composition K x Nb y W1−y O3 were synthesized by solid state method at 800 °C using appropriate amount of WO3, WO2, Nb2O5, and K2WO4. The samples were characterized with XRD, SEM, microprobe analysis, optical spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The XRD patterns of the samples show single phase of tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) type (P4/mbm, No. 127) up to y = 0.07. Structure refinements reveal an increase in cell parameter with increasing nominal niobium content within the TTB phase. The elemental compositions of the crystals determined by electron microprobe analysis also show an increase in Nb content with increasing y. With increasing Nb content the reflectivity minimum in the near infrared spectral range shifts towards lower wavenumber indicating the effect of decreasing carrier concentration. Pyrochlore type phase (KNbWO6) is obtained as a second phase when nominal composition y > 0.07.  相似文献

1081 otorhinolaryngological articles originating from departments in the British Isles, published in 8 leading English language speciality journals from 1985–1989 were analysed to determine author and content trends. Articles were classified as clinical investigative, laboratory based, case report or review/editorial. The institution of origin, total number of authors and identity of the first three were recorded. BACKGROUND: Cough associated with gastroesophageal reflux (GER) may originate in extrathoracic airway receptors made hypersensitive by acid-induced mucosal injury. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the role of laryngeal disease and dysfunction in the pathogenesis of GER-associated cough in nonasthmatic patients. METHODS: Seven patients with GER-associated cough were compared with 7 patients with GER but no cough. The patients underwent fiberoptic endoscopy for assessment of laryngitis and esophagitis (expressed by scores); esophageal manometry; 24-hour pH monitoring; lung function tests; and histamine inhalation challenge with assessment of bronchial threshold (concentration provoking 10% fall in FEV1 [PC10]), extrathoracic airway threshold (concentration provoking 25% fall in the maximal midinspiratory flow [PC25MIF50]), and cough threshold (concentration provoking 5 or more coughs PCcough). The patients were reevaluated after 3 months of medical treatment for GER. RESULTS: Patients with cough, compared with those without cough, had significantly higher laryngitis scores (P = .002), lower esophageal sphincter pressures, longer time with pH below 4 (P = .003), greater number of episodes of reflux longer than 5 minutes (P = .016), longer esophageal clearance time (P = .048), and significantly lower PC25MIF50 (P = .005) and PCcough (P = .008) values. Laryngitis score was significantly inversely related to either PCcough (P < .001) or PC25MIF50 (P <.01) but not to PC10. Laryngitis score, PC25MIF50, and PCcough were all closely related to GER severity. After GER treatment, laryngitis, PC25MIF50, and PCcough were all significantly improved. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that GER-associated cough is strongly associated with laryngeal disease and dysfunction consequent to acid reflux injury in nonasthmatic patients.  相似文献

This paper describes the investigations carried out on the kinetics of the solid-gas reaction between terephthalic acid and methyl alcohol in presence of phosphoric acid as the catalyst. As phosphoric acid itself reacts with the alcohol forming methyl phosphates, the kinetic data obtained have been analysed taking this reaction into account. The rate of formation of monomethyl phosphate has been found to be proportional to the square of the mole fraction of the acid present at any instant. The activation energy involved in this reaction is 11.3 kcal/g mole. The data obtained on terephthalic acid esterification show that; (i) the conversion sharply increases with an increase in the catalyst concentration between 30–35 per cent (w/w), (ii) the ‘shrinking particle’ model, proposed by Levenspiel for solid-gas reactions, can be conveniently adapted to represent the reaction, and (iii) the temperature dependency of the reaction follows the Arrhenius law, with activation energy being 11.5 kcal/g mole.  相似文献

Wheat provides more than 50% of the protein and calorie intake of the population of Pakistan. Legumes and animal protein that could complement the amino acid pattern of wheat, in which lysine is the first limiting amino acid for utilization of protein, are not affordable by members of lower socioeconomic groups in developing countries. The purpose of the study was to determine whether lysine fortification of wheat flour would have a positive impact on populations consuming a predominantly wheat-based diet. A double-blind study was carried out for three months on the outskirts of Peshawar, Pakistan. Forty families received wheat flour fortified with lysine, and 40 families received wheat flour without lysine. Wheat provided 59% of the protein for men, 65% for women, and 58% for children. The weight and height of the children in both groups increased during the study, but the increase was significantly greater in the lysine group. Hemoglobin increased significantly in the women receiving lysine-fortified flour. Transferrin levels increased significantly in men, women, and children in the lysine group as compared with those in the control group. Prealbumin increased significantly in adults receiving additional lysine but decreased in children. Men, women, and children in the lysine-supplemented families had significant increases in CD4, CD8, and complement C3 as compared with controls. These results indicate that lysine fortification of wheat flour can significantly improve sensitive indicators of nutritional status in a population consuming a diet in which 58% to 65% of the protein, depending on age and sex, is supplied by wheat.  相似文献

Neuronal cell networks have been reconstructed on planar microelectrode arrays (MEAs) from dissociated hippocampal pyramidal neurons. Microcontact printing (microCP) and a photoresist-liftoff method were used to selectively localize poly-L-lysine (PLL) on the surface of MEAs. Haptotaxis led to the organization of the neurons into networks localized adjacent to microelectrodes. Various grids of PLL with 2-25-microm-wide lines spaced by 50-200 microm with 15-25-microm nodes at intersection points were used to guide cell body attachment and neurite outgrowth. Bursting activity with spike amplitude attenuation was observed, and multichannel recordings detected instances of coincident firing activity. Finally, we present here an extracellular recording from a approximately 2 microm bundle of guided neurites.  相似文献

Measurement of soft x-ray emission from a low-energy plasma focus operated with nitrogen within the pressure range of 0.1–1.0 mbar is presented. The x-rays are detected by using an assembly of Quantrad Si PIN-diodes with differential filtering and with a multipinhole camera. In the 1.0–1.3 keV and 1.0–1.5 keV windows, the x-ray yield in 4 geometry is 1.03 J and 14.0 J, respectively, at a filling pressure of 0.25 mbar and the corresponding efficiencies are 0.04% and 1.22%. The total x-ray emission in 4 geometry is estimated at 21.8 J, which corresponds to the system efficiency of about 1.9%. The soft x-ray emission is found dominantly as a result of electron beam activity on the anode tip, which is confirmed by the images recorded by a pinhole camera.  相似文献
