Suppressive effects of antihistaminic and/or anti-PAF agents on passive anaphylactic shock in mice sensitized with allogeneic monoclonal IgE and IgG1 antibodies and hyperimmune serum

Normal modes analyses for different molecules with biological interest have been performed and checked via the calculation of resonance Raman intensities. For this purpose, molecular orbital calculations were used to determine bond order changes in the lowest-lying electronic transitions. These bond order changes were used to calculate resonance Raman intensities in order to obtain correct vibrational assignments and reliable force fields.     

A new solution for splay‐to‐bend transition in OCB mode with a twisted area

Abstract— Quick, stable transition from splay‐to‐bend alignment in optically compensated bend (OCB) mode is crucial for practical use. This has been achieved by surface treating part of a pixel with a chiral dopant to induce a twist alignment while controlling the twist direction. The effectiveness of this new method was confirmed in a prototype TFT‐LCD panel.     

The spontaneous formation of a J-like aggregate in Langmuir-Blodgett films of a squarylium dye

The physical properties of chalcogenide-containing squarylium (SQ) dyes with long alkyl chains were examined. The SQ dyes were deposited as Y-type films. The SQ dye of a 6-methylselenazole derivative spontaneously forms a J-like aggregate in Langmuir-Blodgett films at ambient conditions.     

Investigation of the hepatic excretion mechanism of indocyanine green in patients with liver disease

The purpose of the present paper is to clarify the disturbance of the indocyanine green (ICG) uptake-excretion mechanism in patients with liver disease. The following parameters were used to indicate the disappearance rate of various dyes from plasma; K for ICG, KAU for 198Au colloid and KRB for 131I-rose bengal. ICG was administered intravenously using three different continuous infusion rates on all patients. The maximum rate of biliary excretion (Tm) as well as the relative hepatic storage capacity (S) were determined. Tm and S definitely decreased in cases with liver cirrhosis. Tm had no relationship to the degree of liver damage, but S fell in proportion to its dysfunction. KAU and KRB significantly decreased in cases of liver cirrhosis, while chronic aggressive hepatitis revealed a marked decrease of Krb without an equivalent decrease of KAU. The correlation coefficient between K and S was definitely higher than that between K and Tm, and K was more closely correlated with KRB than KAU. From these results, it was reasonable to presume that K was more influenced by the hepatic uptake and storage than by the excretion of ICG in the bile, and indicated that the capacity of the liver to handle dyes.     

Feature extraction of three-dimensional objects and visual processing in a hand-eye system using laser tracker

Visual processing is one of the important aspects in researches on an intelligent robot. This paper describes the principle and the construction of a laser tracker as a visual device with an active faculty. This robot's eye can acquire three-dimensional coordinates of a laser spot on an object based on triangulation and then extract features of the object corresponding to the purpose of the intelligent rogot. As its applications, classification of several three-dimensional objects and visual processing in a hand-eye system are performed.     

Nonverbal and verbal content behaviors in the prediction of interviewer effectiveness.

Assessed the ecological validity of previous research (e.g., M. B. LaCrosse, 1975; J. R. Graves and J. D. Robinson, 1976) that has suggested that an interviewer's nonverbal behaviors predominate over verbal content in the prediction of interviewer effectiveness ratings. In contrast to earlier investigations, the current study assessed naturally occurring rather than manipulated interviewer behavior and used "client" ratings of effectiveness rather than observer ratings. Data were collected from analog interviews conducted by 40 counseling students with 80 undergraduates. Results indicate that nonverbal interviewer behaviors do not clearly predominate over verbal content behaviors in the prediction of effectiveness ratings. It is suggested that earlier findings of nonverbal superiority are not generalizable to more ecologically valid interview settings. Clinical studies on ceftriaxone in respiratory tract infections. CTRX Study Group

We report that the results of clinical studies on ceftriaxone (CTRX) in respiratory tract infections (RTIs). Clinical efficacies and side effects of CTRX were as follows; 1. Clinical efficacies of CTRX in a total of 61 cases with RTIs were excellent in 11 cases, good in 23, fair in 11, poor in 12 and unknown in 4. Thus the overall clinical efficacy rate was 59.6%. In cases of patients with lung cancers, the efficacy rate was 42.9%. 2. Clinical efficacy rates with once daily dosage were 50.0% with a dose level of 1 g CTRX and 54.8% with that of 2 g CTRX. 3. Side effects were observed in 2 cases (3.1%) and laboratory abnormalities were observed in 1 case (1.6%). They were not serious, however. These data suggest that CTRX is one of the useful cephalosporins in treatment of RTIs.     

An aggressive nasal lymphoma accompanied by high levels of soluble Fas ligand

10 adults' performances on visual training through recognition of speech spectrograms were examined. All subjects completed the training within eight 1-hr. sessions. Success and retention of training were also evident in the subjects' performances on two posttests.     

Vitamin E and coenzyme Q concentrations in the thyroid tissues of patients with various thyroid disorders

Chylous fistula complicates 1.1% of all radical neck dissections, and 2.4% of left-sided dissections. The standard treatment of established chylous leak in the reported cases is a pressure dressing applied to the lower neck. Here we present a case of chylous fistula, where conservative methods failed to cope with this complication. The additional application of a fibrin adhesive set was a successful modality of treatment.
