As basic research for the solution spinning of the high Tc oxide superconductor, the effect of organic acid on the complex formation of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with the copper [Cu(11)] ion was explored with various carboxylic acids, such as formic acid, acetic acid, n-butylic acid, and lactic acid. The effects of these acids on the interaction between PVA and Cu(II) acetate in aqueous solution were nonexistent, while a chelation of the Cu(II) ion and lactic acid was detected. In the solid state, a linear complex of PVA with the Cu(II) ion was formed by adding organic acid. Optimization of groove dimensions in herringbone-grooved journal bearings is discussed in this paper with aims to design precision spindles with improved run-out characteristics. An evaluation index to represent the magnitude of the amplitude of repeatable run-out is firstly introduced and the groove design parameters are theoretically discussed to minimize the index value with taking the stable operation condition of the bearing into account. The comprehensive parameter research reveals a guideline for the design of the groove configuration for good run-out characteristics. Experiments with a shaft with grooves designed along the proposed guideline show that the amplitude of repeatable run-out reduces to about half of that of a bearing with currently designed groove configurations, thus confirming validity of the above guideline. 相似文献

This study targets environmental load reduction in hot and humid regions. It reveals the effects that porous residential buildings have on the natural ventilation performance and, consequently, the cooling load reduction. Two residential building models, namely a model with a void ratio of 0% and a model with a void ratio of 50%, are evaluated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis and thermal and airflow network analysis. The analysis on components of the heat load indicates that improvements in the natural ventilation performance would significantly reduce the cooling load. 相似文献

An electroless metal plating method was used to form Pt shells on sub-micrometer-sized silica (SiO2) particles fabricated by a sol-gel method. The electroless metal plating method was comprised of three steps: (1) surface-modification of SiO2 particles with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) (SiO2/PVP) or poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDADMAC) (SiO2/PDADMAC), (2) pre-deposition of Pt nuclei or Pt fine particles on the SiO2 particles by reducing Pt ions in the presence of SiO2/PVP particles (SiO2/PVP-Pt) or SiO2/PDADMAC particles (SiO2/PDADMAC-Pt), and (3) growth of the pre-deposited Pt by immersing the SiO2/PVP-Pt or SiO2/PDADMAC-Pt particles in a Pt-plating solution. The pre-deposition of Pt nanoparticles was successfully performed for the surface-modified SiO2 particles since the surface modification possibly strengthened the affinity between the SiO2 particle surfaces and Pt ions. The Pt nanoparticles were pre-deposited more uniformly in the case of PVP because the pre-deposition took place more slowly for the PVP, which provided uniform surface-modification followed by the uniform pre-deposition of Pt nanoparticles. The formation of Pt shells was successfully performed on the SiO2/PVP-Pt particles in the electroless metal plating process because Pt nuclei were generated by the reduction of H2PtCl6 and then further deposited on the Pt particle surfaces on the SiO2/PVP-Pt particles. 相似文献

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles are some of the most commonly used containers for beverages. During the manufacturing process of PET resin in Japan, metallic catalysts such as Sb and Ge are widely used, with other metals or metallic compounds also being employed to improve the quality of PET bottles. However, few reports into the contents of such elements exist. Thus, we herein report the concentrations of 34 elements (ie, Li, B, Na, Mg, Al, P, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Zr, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Cs, Ba, W, Pb, and U) in 16 samples of unused virgin PET bottles for beverages. The measurement was performed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and these bottles were found to contain five main elements (ie, <0.5- to 50-mg/kg Ge, <1- to 26-mg/kg Ti, <0.1- to 279-mg/kg Sb, <10- to 48-mg/kg P, and <0.5- to 53-mg/kg Co) that were used as polymerisation catalysts, stabilisers, oxidation catalysts, and bluing agents. Amorphous Si (a-Si) films with lower hydrogen contents show better adhesion to glass during flash lamp annealing (FLA). The 2.0 µm-thick a-Si films deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), containing 10% hydrogen, start to peel off even at a lamp irradiance lower than that required for crystallization, whereas a-Si films deposited by catalytic CVD (Cat-CVD) partially adhere even after crystallization. Dehydrogenated Cat-CVD a-Si films show much better adhesion to glass, and are converted to polycrystalline Si (poly-Si) without serious peeling, but are accompanied by the generation of crack-like structures. These facts demonstrate the superiority of as-deposited Cat-CVD a-Si films as a precursor material for micrometer-thick poly-Si formed by FLA. 相似文献

Porous hydroxyapatite (HAp) ceramics possessing well-controlled porosities and pore sizes were developed by firing apatite-fiber compacts mixed with carbon beads and agar. The total porosities could be controlled in the range from 40 to 85% by varying compaction pressure (20-40 MPa), firing temperature (1000-1300 degrees C) and carbon/HAp ratio (0/10-10/10 (w/w)). Most of the pores were regarded as open pores. The pore sizes were mainly affected by the carbon-bead diameter (5, 20 or 150 microm) and partly by the compaction pressure and the firing temperature. The pore sizes of the porous HAp ceramics derived from the carbon beads of 150 microm in diameter were distributed in the two separate ranges of several micrometers and more than 100 microm. 相似文献

Here, we report the fabrication of a chemical gradient microfluidic device for single-cell cytotoxicity assays. This device consists of a microfluidic chemical gradient generator and a microcavity array that enables entrapment of cells with high efficiency at 88 ± 6% of the loaded cells. A 2-fold logarithmic chemical gradient generator that is capable of generating a serial 2-fold gradient was designed and then integrated with the microcavity array. High density single-cell entrapment was demonstrated in the device without cell damage, which was performed in 30 s. Finally, we validated the feasibility of this device to perform cytotoxicity assays by exposing cells to potassium cyanide (0-100 μM KCN). The device captured images of 4000 single cells affected by 6 concentrations of KCN and determined cell viability by counting the effected cells. Image scanning of the microcavity array was completed within 10 min using a 10× objective lens and a motorized stage. Aligning cells on the microcavity array eases cell counting, observation, imaging, and evaluation of singular cells. Thus, this platform was able to determine the cytotoxicity of chemicals at a single-cell level, as well as trace the cytotoxicity over time. The authors examined the association between prescribed medications and fatal motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) in an active duty military population between 2002 and 2006. Using a case-control design, MVC deaths were ascertained using a military mortality registry, and an integrated health system database provided information on health system eligibility, pharmacy transactions, and medical encounters. Cases and controls were matched on comparable observation time outside periods of deployment. Among selected categories, only one, antidepressant medications, was an independent predictor of fatal MVC (odds ratio, 3.19; 95% confidence interval, 1.01-10.07). Male gender, Black race, enlisted rank, service branch (Navy and Marine Corps), and selected co-morbidities were also independent predictors. Unexpectedly, the odds of younger age quartiles (<27 years) and history of deployment were reduced for MVC cases. Although results need to be considered in the context of data limitations, the association between prescribed antidepressants and fatal MVC may reflect unmeasured co-morbidities, such as combined effects of prescribed and over-the-counter medications and/or alcohol or other substance abuse. Younger individuals, representing new military accessions in training or returning from deployment with serious injuries, may have fewer opportunities to operate vehicles, or targeted efforts to reduce MVC following deployment may be showing a positive effect. 相似文献

Chitosan-prednisolone conjugate microspheres (Ch-SP-MS) were prepared, and Eudragit coating was applied in order to efficiently deliver the microspheres and drug to the intestinal disease sites. The Eudragit L100-coated microspheres (Ch-SP-MS/EuL100) were examined for particle characteristics and the release of drug and Ch-SP-MS in different pH media at 37°C. Ch‐SP-MS were spherical, with a mean size of 4.5 μm and prednisolone content of 3.3% (w/w). Ch-SP-MS/EuL100 were fairly spherical, with a mean size of 22. 5 μm and drug content of 0.32% (w/w). At pH 1.2, the release extent was less than 5% even at 48 h, and Eudragit coating tended to suppress the release. In contrast, at pH 6.8 and 7.4, Ch-SP-MS/EuL100 tended to show somewhat faster drug release than Ch-SP-MS. Ch-SP-MS/EuL100 displayed a release extent of 23 and 27% at pH 6.8 and 7.4, respectively. Ch-SP-MS aggregated at pH 1.2, but almost kept their initial size and shape at pH 6.8 and 7.4. Ch-SP-MS/EuL100 almost maintained their original shape and size at pH 1.2, and gradually released Ch-SP-MS at pH 6.8 and 7.4 due to dissolution of the Eudragit layer.
