Resistively switching devices are considered promising for next‐generation nonvolatile random‐access memories. Today, such memories are fabricated by means of “top–down approaches” applying thin films sandwiched between nanoscaled electrodes. In contrast, this work presents a “bottom–up approach” disclosing for the first time the resistive switching (RS) of individual TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs). The NPs, which have sizes of 80 and 350 nm, respectively, are obtained by wet chemical synthesis and thermally treated under oxidizing or vacuum conditions for crystallization, respectively. These NPs are deposited on a Pt/Ir bottom electrode and individual NPs are electrically characterized by means of a nanomanipulator system in situ, in a scanning electron microscope. While amorphous NPs and calcined NPs reveal no switching hysteresis, a very interesting behavior is found for the vacuum‐annealed, crystalline TiO2–x NPs. These NPs reveal forming‐free RS behavior, dominantly complementary switching (CS) and, to a small degree, bipolar switching (BS) characteristics. In contrast, similarly vacuum‐annealed TiO2 thin films grown by atomic layer deposition show standard BS behavior under the same conditions. The interesting CS behavior of the TiO2–x NPs is attributed to the formation of a core–shell‐like structure by re‐oxidation of the reduced NPs as a unique feature.  相似文献

Three experiments examined the disruption of perceptual motor performance by intense noise bursts. Subjects aimed a rifle at a fixed target for 15-s periods separated by 15 s of rest. This cycle was repeated 30 times in each of two series separated by a 15-min rest, each series containing five noise bursts. The noise bursts disrupted aiming for 1-2 s, an effect that increased with sound pressure level for 110, 120, and 130 dB stimuli. There was no difference between stimuli with energy centered on 250 Hz as opposed to 800 Hz. The effect diminished over the five bursts within the first series (but not to zero) and did not recover in the 15-min rest period. Some subjects received three days of testing; in these cases the effect of the noise bursts partially recovered after rest intervals of 24 hrs and then seven days. Other subjects received 15 trials with 110-dB stimuli, then five more trials with 130-dB stimuli. The disruption of aiming by 130 dB stimuli was not reduced by prior exposure to 110-dB stimuli.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: After a modified Fontan procedure with atriopulmonary or atrioventricular conduit, some patients present stress intolerance, supraventricular arrhythmia, recurrent pleuropericardial or ascitic effusions, and protein-losing enteropathy, all of which are signs that the previous procedure has failed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the midterm outcome after surgical therapy for this condition. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between August 1994 and December 1997, nine patients (6 males and 3 females), age 10 to 39 (mean 21.5) years, underwent conversion of previous modified Fontan procedure to total extracardiac cavo-pulmonary connection. Time from the previous procedure was 6 to 18 years (mean 10). Diagnosis was tricuspid atresia with pulmonary stenosis (n = 2), double-inlet left ventricle and concordant ventriculoarterial connection (n = 3), double-inlet left ventricle and discordant ventriculoarterial connection (n = 3), Holmes heart (n = 1). Nine patients presented decreased stress tolerance, seven had arrhythmia, five had pleuropericardial effusions and two had protein-losing enteropathy. In all but one patient, right atrial pressure was higher than 15 mmHg, while in six patients the cardiac index was less than 2 l/min/m2. A polytetrafluoroethylene non-valved conduit was interposed between the inferior vena cava and the right pulmonary artery for conversion in all patients. A bidirectional cavo-pulmonary anastomosis (modified Glenn) was associated in all patients. Evaluation was done by NYHA Class and by an arbitrary score assigned to patients based on 7 parameters. RESULTS: There was no perioperative mortality. All patients were clinically improved at a mean follow-up of 24 months (range: 3 to 46). No patient had effusions, and the arrhythmias disappeared in 4 patients and were controlled by medical therapy in one. The two patients with protein-losing enteropathy improved markedly within 30 days and the score dropped below 10 points. CONCLUSIONS: The conversion of the modified Fontan procedure to total extracardiac cavo-pulmonary connection improves clinical condition by decreasing the right atrium-pulmonary gradient and right atrial preload, and by providing a laminar cavo-pulmonary flow without any need for intracardiac anastomoses. This procedure should be undertaken early in this subset of patients, before ventricular failure ensues.  相似文献

A simple left atrial procedure for atrial fibrillation (AF) was performed in 16 elderly patients (age over 70 years old) with chronic AF associated with mitral and/or aortic valvular diseases. Chronic AF was eliminated upon discharge in 13 out of the 16 patients (81%). Twelve of the 13 patients (92%) whose AF had disappeared recovered the atrial kick of their right atrium, and 9 patients (70%) recovered the atrial kick of their left atrium. A simple surgical procedure to the left atrium was effective in the treatment of chronic AF associated with mitral valve disease in elderly patients. This simple procedure is preferable to other methods for the elimination of chronic AF with mitral valve disease in elderly patients.  相似文献

PURPOSE: A low pregnancy rate in in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients of advanced maternal age may be caused by aneuploidies originating from non disjunction in the first or second meiotic divisions. We introduced genetic testing of oocytes by sampling and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis of the first and second polar bodies, to avoid fertilization and transfer of aneuploid oocytes in IVF patients of advanced maternal age. METHODS: Three hundred and sixty-three IVF patients 34 years and older participated in the study. Using micromanipulation procedures, the first and second polar bodies were removed following their extrusion from the oocytes and studied by FISH, using probes specific for chromosomes 13, 18, and 21 to detect oocytes with common aneuploidies. RESULTS: Of a total of 538 IVF cycles, 3250 oocytes were available for FISH analysis, with conclusive FISH results in 2742 oocytes (84.3%). As many as 1102 (40%) of oocytes were predicted to be aneuploid and not transferred. Of 1640 embryos predicted to be normal, 1145 were transferred in 467 treatment cycles, resulting in 107 pregnancies (23%), from which 67 healthy children have been born, 32 pregnancies spontaneously aborted, and 15 pregnancies are ongoing after being confirmed normal by prenatal diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS: Preimplantation diagnosis by first- and second-polar body FISH analysis allows us to avoid the age-related risk of common aneuploidies in IVF patients of advanced maternal age.  相似文献

From October 1993 through August 1994, 21 patients underwent Ross procedures. In the first 12 patients bleeding and/or sequelae resulted in three deaths. In the subsequent nine patients, we modified the technique to prevent bleeding from the raw area of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) without further mortality. Thermogravimetric studies and combined thermal analysis techniques have been used to characterize an ablative composite for thermal protection systems. The aim of the work was to utilize these techniques to obtain the main parameters used in the computer simulation of the space re-entry. In particular, a phenomenological model of the degradation kinetics of a silicon-based ablative composite has been developed using thermogravimetric analysis coupled with mass spectroscopic analysis. Simultaneous thermal analysis has also been used to calculate the ablation heat. The results are used as input for a computer model, developed in Part II, to enable calculation of the temperature profiles inside a thermal protection shield during the re-entry into the earth's atmosphere.
