Weight-loss kinetics were studied for 10 industrial extruded samples of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) plasticized by 20–30% by weight of didecylphtalate at 85, 95, 105, 110, and 120deg;C. For the most unstable samples, which contained a light coplasticizer, the weight-loss rate obeyed Fick's law. In the other cases, it was constant in the early period of exposure. The apparent Arrhenius parameters (i.e., preexponential factor and activation energy) were intercorrelated and varied strongly from one sample to another. This was explained by the existence of two distinct kinetic regimes corresponding, respectively, to diffusion or evaporation, the whole process being controlled by the slowest step, and a transition between both regimes occurring in the temperature range of exposure. In the proposed model, small changes of the preexponential factor of diffusion from one sample to another are sufficient to take into account the observed behavior. 相似文献

The phase noise of any oscillator has a fundamental lower limit. It limits the achievable efficiency of spectrum use and degrades the error rate in practical applications. Any low-noise oscillator can be described as a positive-feedback Q -multiplier circuit. The authors have fabricated n-p-n GaAs/AlGaAs heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) with base doping graded exponentially from 5×1019 cm-3 at the emitter edge to 5×1018 cm-3 at the collector edge. The built-in field due to the exponentially graded doping profile significantly reduces base transit time, despite bandgap narrowing associated with high base doping. Compared to devices with the same base thickness and uniform base doping of 1×1019 cm-3 , the cutoff frequency is increased from 22 to 31 GHz and maximum frequency of oscillation is increased from 40 to 58 GHz. Characteristics of a two-electrode DFB laser filter are studied both theoretically and experimentally. Using a matrix analysis of spontaneous emission, a continuous tuning range of 6.7 Å is achieved by changing both net field gains of the two electrodes. A total discontinuous tuning range of over 10 nm comprising alternating mode jumps and continuous tuning range of 4 Å are measured experimentally. The laser filter presents a FWHM bandwidth of 5 GHz which depends on the optical input power. In addition, it is demonstrated that a DFB laser filter can act as a frequency discriminator/photodetector, i.e., a narrow-band FM receiver, with a uniform bandwidth of 1.5 GHz. Using the two-electrode DFB laser for both transmitter and receiver, a two-channel FSK-WDM transmission system utilizing the discontinuous tuning range is reported. The authors identify the coil parameters that are of importance, when assessing interturn voltages produced by steep-fronted transients. The studies are based on a multiconductor transmission line computer model of a machine winding energized by a simple ramp function. Variations in interturn voltages produced by changes in insulation thickness, insulation permittivity, turn geometry, coil length and number of turns are examined and certain guidelines for avoiding high interturn voltages are evaluated. The influence of school- and age-related variables was examined separately on 2 tasks involving elementary quantitative skills: conservation of number and mental addition. Performance on these tasks was compared by using a cutoff design with 3 groups of kindergarten and Grade 1 children who differed in age but not amount of schooling (grade), in schooling but not age, or in both age and schooling. The effects of age and schooling were distinct. On conservation of number, performance improved as a function of age but not schooling. On mental arithmetic, accuracy improved with schooling rather than age but children's use of various solution procedures (e.g., retrieval, counting) was not influenced by schooling. Thus, in the domain of elementary mathematical skills, the influence of schooling can be very specific, and age-related variables other than schooling play an important role in the development of elementary mathematical skills.
