There appears to be broad consensus in the aviation community that increased automation in the cockpit has changed the task of flying commercial aircraft. The changes have been both beneficial, through the increase of capabilities and efficiencies, and detrimental, as indicated by accidents implicating automation as a contributory factor. It is hypothesized that the constraining factor on automation design has changed from technological to human. The evolutionary growth of the automation has increased complexity which is thought to have led to the lack of a global model of the automation upon which the training material and operator feedback can be designed.Based on these analyses, three classes of complexity mitigation management techniques are explored. The first is to train pilots to understand and work within the current automation system. The second is to enhance feedback to allow more effective monitoring of aircraft systems, and to allow a reduction in the apparent order of the system to the pilot. Finally, a modified development process is suggested which explicitly considers the pilot in early design stages. It is believed that a process-oriented solution will be necessary for future automation systems. This process uses an explicit automation model as a basis for training material and for software requirement specification.  相似文献

We present an unusual case of a chronic hemodialysis patient with moderate diffuse acrocyanosis and prominent unilateral clubbing of his right hand fingers, with classic physical features of hypertrophic osteoarthropathy. The patient's left hand, which had a functioning arteriovenous fistula, did not show any evidence of clubbing. We briefly discuss the different theories in regards to the pathogenesis of clubbing, and the potential role of arteriovenous fistula in preventing its occurrence.  相似文献

A perfect antireflection (AR) coating would remove completely the reflection from an interface between two media for all wavelengths, polarizations, and angles of incidence. The degree to which this can be achieved is investigated numerically. It is shown that wideband solutions can be found provided that layers can be deposited with refractive indices that are close to that of the low-index medium. Thus realistic solutions exist for interfaces between two solid media. Narrow-band high-angle AR solutions are also possible for polarized light and for unpolarized light in the vicinity of certain reststrahlen bands.  相似文献

An attempt has been made to understand the thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) behaviour of a nitrogen-alloyed type 316L austenitic stainless steel under different temperature domains. Smooth, hollow specimens were subjected to in-phase (IP) and out-of-phase (OP) thermal–mechanical cycling in air under a mechanical strain control mode, at a strain rate of 6.4 × 10?5 s?1 and a strain amplitude of ±0.4%. For the sake of comparison, total strain controlled low cycle fatigue (LCF) tests were also performed at the peak temperatures of TMF cycling on similar specimens employing the same strain rate and strain amplitude. Life was found to depend on the thermal/mechanical phasing and temperature. Creep was found to contribute to life reduction in IP tests when the peak temperature of cycling was above 600 °C. A few TMF tests were performed in vacuum in order to assess environmental influence on life. Thermomechanical fatigue cycling led to the development of significant amounts of mean stresses and the stress response was generally higher compared to that of LCF tests at the peak cyclic temperatures. Also, the isothermal tests at the peak temperature of TMF cycling resulted in lower lives compared to those obtained under TMF. An attempt was made to predict the TMF life using the isothermal database and satisfactory predictions were achieved using the Ostergren’s frequency modified damage function (FMDF) approach.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Recent studies have suggested that chronic infections may be a risk factor for coronary artery disease. The aim of this study was to determine whether Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection was an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease. METHODS: A total of 179 patients undergoing coronary angiography for suspected coronary artery disease were prospectively studied. Angiograms were read by experienced invasive cardiologists blinded to the results of H. pylori serology, which was determined by a validated multiwell ELISA assay. RESULTS: A total of 121 patients (68%) had evidence of coronary artery disease, whereas 58 patients (32%) had normal coronary angiograms. Of the 121 patients with coronary artery disease, 29 had single vessel disease, 39 had double vessel disease, and 53 had triple vessel disease, respectively. There was no significant difference in seroprevalence of H. pylori infection in patients with and without coronary artery disease (p = 0.63). The odds ratio (after adjustment for other known risk factors) for coronary artery disease in H. pylori-infected subjects was 0.45 (95% CI = 0.15, 1.37; p = 0.107). In patients with coronary artery disease, H. pylori infection did not increase the likelihood of severe disease (odds ratio for triple vessel disease = 0.53; 95% CI 0.18, 1.60; p = 0.201). CONCLUSION: H. pylori infection rates are similar in patients with normal and abnormal coronary arteries, and infection with H. pylori is not an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease. In patients who have coronary artery disease, H. pylori infection is not a risk factor for more severe disease. These data argue against a causal role for H. pylori in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease.  相似文献

The estimation of a crack location and depth in a cantilever beam is formulated as an optimization problem and the optimal location and depth are found by minimizing the cost function which is based on the difference of the first four measured and calculated natural frequencies. Calculated natural frequencies are obtained using a rotational spring model of the crack, and measured natural frequencies are obtained by using cracked beam frequency response and modal analysis. A hybrid particle swarm–Nelder–Mead (PS–NM) algorithm is used for estimating the crack location and depth. The hybrid PS–NM is made-up of a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO), aimed to identify the most promising areas, and a Nelder–Mead simplex algorithm (NM) for performing local search within these areas. The PS–NM results are compared with those obtained by the PSO, a hybrid genetic–Nelder–Mead algorithm (GA–NM) and a neural network (NN). The proposed PS–NM method outperforms other methods in terms of speed and accuracy. The average estimation errors for crack location and depth are (0.06%, 0%) for the PS–NM, however, (0.09%, 0%), (0.46%, 0.54%) and (0.39%, 1.66%) for the GA–NM, the PSO and the NN methods, respectively. To validate the proposed method and investigate the modeling and measurement errors some experimental results are also included. The average values of experimental location and depth estimation errors are (9.24%, 8.56%) for the PS–NM, but (9.64%, 9.50%), (10.89%, 10.89%), (11.53%, 11.64%) for the GA–NM, the PSO and the NN methods, respectively.  相似文献
