Stability of complex molybdenum(III) ions in molten alkali metal chlorides

High-temperature absorption spectroscopy is used to study the effect of temperature in the range 550?C750°C and the cation composition of a solvent salt on the spectroscopic characteristics and stability of MoCl ₆ ^3? complex ions in melts based on alkali metal chlorides (LiCl; CsCl; LiCl-KCl, NaCl-CsCl, KCl-CsCl, and NaCl-KCl-CsCl eutectic mixtures; and equimolar NaCl-KCl mixture).     

First results of ecological rehabilitation of a temporary storage site for spent nuclear fuel and radioactive wastes in Guba Chervyanaya

One of the most important problems arising in the comprehensive salvaging of nuclear submarines and the ecological rehabilitation of previous shore-based technical bases is the handling of the spent nuclear fuel. For the temporary storage site in Gremikha this is the preparation and removal of about 800 fuel assemblies and eight spent parts removed from Alpha class boats. The unsatisfactory state of the infrastructure and the sanitary-hygienic support on the object made it impossible remove the spent fuel immediately. Several years of work were needed to remove at the end of 2008, following the standard scheme, the first batch of 294 fuel assemblies for reprocessing at the Industrial Association Mayak. This was accomplished with the active and financial support of the French Atomic Energy Commission, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Commission (TACIS).

Simple Models to Study Spectral Properties of Microbial and Animal Rhodopsins: Evaluation of the Electrostatic Effect of Charged and Polar Residues on the First Absorption Band Maxima

A typical feature of proteins from the rhodopsin family is the sensitivity of their absorption band maximum to protein amino acid composition. For this reason, studies of these proteins often require methodologies that determine spectral shift caused by amino acid substitutions. Generally, quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics models allow for the calculation of a substitution-induced spectral shift with high accuracy, but their application is not always easy and requires special knowledge. In the present study, we propose simple models that allow us to estimate the direct effect of a charged or polar residue substitution without extensive calculations using only rhodopsin three-dimensional structure and plots or tables that are provided in this article. The models are based on absorption maximum values calculated at the SORCI+Q level of theory for cis- and trans-forms of retinal protonated Schiff base in an external electrostatic field of charges and dipoles. Each value corresponds to a certain position of a charged or polar residue relative to the retinal chromophore. The proposed approach was evaluated against an example set consisting of twelve bovine rhodopsin and sodium pumping rhodopsin mutants. The limits of the applicability of the models are also discussed. The results of our study can be useful for the interpretation of experimental data and for the rational design of rhodopsins with required spectral properties.     

Determination of the thermal state of material subjected to erosive degradation

The experimental data are generalized and governing parameters and analytic relations for estimating the thermal state of material subjected to the thermoerosive action of a dusty gas flow are proposed. Two-node market under imperfect competition

In this paper, we consider a Cournot auction with uniform nodal prices for a two-node market. The structure of each local market is an oligopoly. We demonstrate how the type of Nash equilibrium depends on the throughput. Finally, we investigate the optimum throughput problem under an imperfect competition in the market.
