This paper introduces principal motion components (PMC), a new method for one-shot gesture recognition. In the considered scenario a single training video is available for each gesture to be recognized, which limits the application of traditional techniques (e.g., HMMs). In PMC, a 2D map of motion energy is obtained per each pair of consecutive frames in a video. Motion maps associated to a video are processed to obtain a PCA model, which is used for recognition under a reconstruction-error approach. The main benefits of the proposed approach are its simplicity, easiness of implementation, competitive performance and efficiency. We report experimental results in one-shot gesture recognition using the ChaLearn Gesture Dataset; a benchmark comprising more than 50,000 gestures, recorded as both RGB and depth video with a Kinect?camera. Results obtained with PMC are competitive with alternative methods proposed for the same data set. 相似文献

The pathogenesis of sepsis involves complex interactions and a systemic inflammatory response leading eventually to multiorgan failure. Autotaxin (ATX, ENPP2) is a secreted glycoprotein largely responsible for the extracellular production of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), which exerts multiple effects in almost all cell types through its at least six G-protein-coupled LPA receptors (LPARs). Here, we investigated a possible role of the ATX/LPA axis in sepsis in an animal model of endotoxemia as well as in septic patients. Mice with 50% reduced serum ATX levels showed improved survival upon lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation compared to their littermate controls. Similarly, mice bearing the inducible inactivation of ATX and presenting with >70% decreased ATX levels were even more protected against LPS-induced endotoxemia; however, no significant effects were observed upon the chronic and systemic transgenic overexpression of ATX. Moreover, the genetic deletion of LPA receptors 1 and 2 did not significantly affect the severity of the modelled disease, suggesting that alternative receptors may mediate LPA effects upon sepsis. In translation, ATX levels were found to be elevated in the sera of critically ill patients with sepsis in comparison with their baseline levels upon ICU admission. Therefore, the results indicate a role for ATX in LPS-induced sepsis and suggest possible therapeutic benefits of pharmacologically targeting ATX in severe, systemic inflammatory disorders. 相似文献

Cyberbullying is an emerging form of aggression that utilizes information and communication technologies (ICTs). While cyberbullying incidents attract considerable attention, research on the causes and psychosocial predictors of cyberbullying is still limited. The present study used an integrated theoretical model incorporating empathy, moral disengagement, and social cognitions related to cyberbullying. Structured questionnaires were administered to 355 randomly selected adolescents (M = 14.7, SD = 1.20). Linear regression analysis showed that social norms, prototype similarity and situational self-efficacy directly predicted cyberbullying expectations. Multiple mediation modelling indicated that normative influences mediated the effects of moral disengagement and affective empathy on cyberbullying expectations. These findings provide valuable information regarding the effect of both distal and proximal risk factors for cyberbullying in adolescence, highlight the relationship between normative processes and moral self-regulation, and set the basis for related educational and preventive interventions. 相似文献

Preheating potatoes at 50 to 80°C has a firming effect on the cooked potato tissue. This effect is particularly pronounced at a preheating temperature of 60 to 70°C followed by cooling. Several theories have been presented in the literature to explain this firming effect: retrogradation of starch, leaching of amylose, stabilization of the middle lamellae and cell walls by the activation of the pectin methylesterase (PME) enzyme, and by the release of calcium from gelatinized starch and the formation of calcium bridges between pectin molecules. Most probably, none of these theories alone can explain the phenomenon and more than one mechanism seems to be involved. Some of these mechanisms seem to be interdependent. As an example, calcium could be considered as a link all the way through release after starch gelatinization to cross‐linking pectin substances in the cell wall and the middle lamellae, which has been demethylated by the PME enzyme. More research and “clear cut” experiments are needed in order to elucidate the role of each mechanism, especially which of them is the main contributor to the process of firming. Most probably, the calcium‐pectin‐PME mechanism plays a secondary role, that is, it only retards the collapse of the tissue structure that would otherwise occur during the final heating without preheating, and it is not the main factor of firmness. 相似文献

In this work, facial thermal infrared images are employed for intoxicated person discrimination. Specifically, the region of the forehead of the face of the sober and the corresponding intoxicated person is used to test if the employed Local Difference Patterns (LDPs) constitute discriminative features. For an intoxicated person, vessels on the forehead become more active so that the intensity of the pixels in this region is affected accordingly. The LDPs employed ignore orientation of the pixels distribution and give emphasis on the first and second norms of the differences as well as the ordered values of the pixels in the employed kernels. The statistics of the LDPs for the drunk person are different from those of the sober one and accordingly drunkenness can be ascertained by comparing the thermal infrared image of the corresponding sober and intoxicated person. Six from the eight LDPs examined to be used as features for drunk identification were proved successful. Their classification success rate was over 73 and up to 85%. The proposed method can be incorporated into a non-invasive inspection commercial system to be used by the police as a first step for intoxicated person detection. Forty one participants in the experiment have contributed to the creation of the unique sober–drunk database which is available on the web and contains over 4.000 images. 相似文献

The effect of using a rosemary extract on the stability of oil used for frying potato chips has been evaluated. Sliced potatoes
were fried intermittently in soybean oil containing a natural extract from rosemary. The conditions used for frying were 185°C
for 90 s. Two separate experiments, with and without replenishment of oil, were carried out. Oil samples were taken each day,
not only from the frying pans but also by extraction with hexane from the chips. Changes in the induction period of the oil
samples (Rancimat method) were determined. The induction period decreased as frying progressed. The reduction in the induction
period was higher in the oil free of rosemary extract, and the chips were much darker in color. The oil containing the extract
showed greater antioxidant activity, and reduced darkening and rancidity of the oil. Potato chips fried in the oil with added
rosemary extract were more acceptable than chips fried in oil containing no extract until the last frying. The free radical
scavenging activity of rosemary extract in comparison to other natural antioxidants was also determined by the reduction of
O2

The evolution of droplet or bubble size distribution in turbulent flow is of great significance in a variety of technological fields. Modeling this evolution by employing a population balance approach requires knowledge of the so-called breakage functions (rate and kernel). Over the years, a large number of phenomenological breakage functions with various degrees of sophistication have been proposed in the literature. Among them, those based on the statistical theory of turbulence are of particular interest, in that they attempt to take into account the structure of the flow field responsible for breakage. The purpose of the present work is to present a unified framework for developing this type of breakage functions and to show how existing models can be derived in a systematic and consistent way. The key parameters in this modeling approach are identified, which have to be determined by comparison with experimental data. It is also shown that the breakage functions, obtained within the framework presented here, lead to predictions of a droplet size evolution whose main features are consistent with experimental observations. It is suggested that this framework is an important step toward the development of a standard approach for modeling droplet size evolution in turbulent flow. 相似文献

Present work investigates the effect of hydrothermal aging of flax fiber-reinforced bio-based epoxy resin laminates on the mechanical and thermomechanical properties of the composites. Three different types of bio-based resins were used. Plates reinforced with eight layers plain weave flax fibers of 150 g/m2, manufactured using Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), compression molding or autoclave technique depends on type of the resin. One dimensional Fickian behavior shows a good fitting to the experimental data derived from weight measurements. The water uptake at the equilibrium state in the case of 60 °C temperature was slightly greater than that at 40 °C. The mechanical properties after hydrothermal aging show a significant reduction and do not return to their initial values even after the drying process. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym.
