In the present study, we focus on the characterization of the necking mechanisms during the early stages of pressure-less spark plasma sintering (PL-SPS) compared to conventional sintering (CS) of two different types of powdered materials (Cu and α-Al2O3). SEM observations of the evolution of particle morphology and necks from the as-received powders to sintered ones show the nature of the neck between particles which were either in contact or not. For alumina, no particular necking process (melt or viscous bridge) was observed regardless of the sintering conditions (PL-SPS and CS), even for a very high heating rate 455 °C/min. For copper, this neck morphology is unequivocally not typical of conventional ones, thus, suggesting mass transport by an ejection mechanism. This particular morphology was seen occasionally. In comparison, the conventionally sintered Cu particles presented a smoother surface, with conventional curved necks suggesting the contribution of surface diffusion mechanisms. Based on partial pressure calculations, a direct thermal effect might not explain the observed non-conventional neck for copper. On the other hand, local field enhancement effect and local favourable thermal breakdown voltage conditions are described and discussed in order to support the experimental results.  相似文献

Thermally oxidized iron oxide (α-Fe2O3, Hematite) nanostructures are investigated as photoanodes that convert solar energy into hydrogen by splitting water. α-Fe2O3 is stable for water photo-oxidation, it has a favorable band gap energy and is a non-toxic common material. However, α-Fe2O3 photoanodes suffer from high loss due to electron-hole recombination; therefore nanoarchitectures with high aspect ratio that allows photons to be absorbed close to the photoanode/electrolyte interface are preferred. The thermal oxidation of iron is a simple way to produce nanostructured iron oxide electrodes. Different morphologies, aspect ratios, and oxide thicknesses result depending on the process parameters. Nanorod structures were obtained by annealing iron foils in oxygen rich atmosphere, whereas annealing in oxygen lean atmosphere resulted in nanocoral-like morphology. The nanorod-structured photoanodes achieved moderate photocurrent density of 0.9 mA/cm2 while the nanocoral morphology achieved 2.6 mA/cm2 (both at 1.8 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode). The effect of the oxidation process and oxide layer on performance is discussed.  相似文献

Environmental pollution by solid wastes and inadequate energy supply are some of the major challenges facing the developing world. This study evaluated the potentials of Fluted pumpkin fruit rind and poultry manure for biogas generation. Mechanical and thermo-alkaline pre-treatments were applied to two samples labeled ‘O’ and ‘P’ while the third sample (Q) had no thermo-alkaline treatment. The physicochemical characteristics of the substrates revealed richness in nutrients and mineral elements. The results showed that use of a combination of pre-treatment methods enhanced the biogas yield in the pre-treated substrates. Analysis of the gas composition showed 66.5 ± 2.5% Methane, 25 ± 1% Carbon dioxide; 58.5 ± 2.5% Methane, 26 ± 1% Carbon dioxide; 54.5 ± 1.5% Methane, 28 ± 2% Carbon dioxide for the three experiments, respectively. All the obtained values show the models had a high predictive ability. The substrates should be further used for energy generation.  相似文献

Residual feed intake (RFI) is an increasingly used trait to analyze feed efficiency in livestock, and in some sectors such as dairy cattle, it is one of the most frequently used traits. Although the principle for calculating RFI is always the same (i.e., using the residual of a regression of intake on performance predictors), a wide range of models are found in the literature, with different predictors, different ways of considering intake, and more recently, different statistical approaches. Consequently, the results are not easily comparable from one study to another as they reflect different biological variabilities, and the relationship between the residual (i.e., RFI) and the underlying true efficiency also differs. In this review, the components of the RFI equation are explored with respect to the underlying biological processes. The aim of this decomposition is to provide a better understanding of which of the processes in this complex trait contribute significantly to the individual variability in efficiency. The intricacies associated with the residual term, as well as the energy sinks and the intake term, are broken down and discussed. Based on this exploration as well as on some recent literature, new forms of the RFI equation are proposed to better separate the efficiency terms from errors and inaccuracies. The review also considers the time period of measurement of RFI. This is a key consideration for the accuracy of the RFI estimation itself, and also for understanding the relationships between short-term efficiency, animal resilience, and long-term efficiency. As livestock production moves toward sustainable efficiency, these considerations are increasingly important to bring to bear in RFI estimations.  相似文献

We sampled seawater and snowpacks in the Canadian high Arctic for methylated species of mercury (Hg). We discovered that, although seawater sampled under the sea ice had very low concentrations of total Hg (THg, all forms of Hg in a sample; on average 0.14-0.24 ng L(-1)), 30-45% of the THg was in the monomethyl Hg (MMHg) form (on average 0.057-0.095 ng L(-1)), making seawater itself a direct source of MMHg for biomagnification through marine food webs. Seawater under the ice also contained high concentrations of gaseous elemental Hg (GEM; 129 +/- 36 pg L(-1)), suggesting that open water regions such as polynyas and ice leads were a net source of approximately 130 +/- 30 ng Hg m(-2) day(-1) to the atmosphere. We also found 11.1 +/- 4.1 pg L(-1) of dimethyl Hg (DMHg) in seawater and calculated that there could be a significant flux of DMHg to the atmosphere from open water regions. This flux could then resultin MMHg deposition into nearby snowpacks via oxidation of DMHg to MMHg in the atmosphere. In fact, we found high concentrations of MMHg in a few snowpacks near regions of open water. Interestingly, we discovered a significant log-log relationship between Cl- concentrations in snowpacks and concentrations of THg. We hypothesize that as Cl- concentrations in snowpacks increase, inorganic Hg(II) occurs principally as less reducible chloro complexes and, hence, remains in an oxidized state. As a result, snowpacks that receive both marine aerosol deposition of Cl- and deposition of Hg(II) via springtime atmospheric Hg depletion events, for example, may contain significant loads of Hg(II). Overall, though, the median wet/dry loads of Hg in the snowpacks we sampled in the high Arctic (5.2 mg THg ha(-1) and 0.03 mg MMHg ha(-1)) were far below wet-only annual THg loadings throughout southern Canada and most of the U.S. (22-200 mg ha(-1)).
