Matsunone, (2E,4E)-4.6,10,12-tetramethyl-2,4-tridecadien-7-one, is the primary sex pheromone ofMatsucoccus resinosae, M. thunbergianae, andM. matsumurae. The synthetic compound was tested in the laboratory and in field tests with all three species, and significantly more males responded to synthetic matsuone than to controls. The attraction of synthetic matsuone to males in field tests was not significantly different from that of virgin females at the same matsuone release rate. An analog of matsuone previously shown to be biologically active was also tested in the laboratory withM. resinosae andM. thunbergianae, and field tested withM. resinosae. The [Ph(3)PAu(6-MP)] complex, where 6-MPH is 6-mercaptopurine, is active against the cisplatinresistant cell line, mouse leukaemia L1210/DDP, as is the precursor compound [Ph(3)PAuCl], suggesting that the thiolate is not critical for activity. Against the human cell lines, FaDu (squamous cell carcinoma) and SKOV-3 (ovarian carcinoma), both [Ph(3)PAu(6-MP)] and [Ph(3)PAu(6-TG)], where 6-TGH is 6-thioguanine, were active. The partitioning of a single polymer chain into a slit in a good solvent with different surface interactions is examined through Monte Carlo simulations from subcritical regime to adsorptive regime. The chain conformation in the subcritical regime is not perturbed by the surface interactions significantly. In the adsorptive regime, the conformation of the chain is strongly perturbed by the surface interactions. The confinement free energy in the two regimes maybe written in a uniform formula, βΔμconf∼c1N(a/D)xεw+c2N(a/D)1/ν with x∼2.0 or larger in the subcritical regime and ∼1.0 in the adsorptive regime, where ν is the Flory exponent, D is the slit width, N is the chain length, a is the monomer size, and εw is the surface interaction energy between the polymer beads and the slit. This formula is valid for a long chain in the narrow slit in the subcritical regime or when the adsorption layer h>D in the adsorptive regime. A critical behavior occurs when εw is at the critical adsorption point and x=1/ν, then Δμconf will have little dependence on N or D. Higher order terms that are neglected in the above equation, however, may be present that could lead to a weak dependence of K on N and D even in the critical adsorption point. 相似文献

A method for isolation and quantitation of cellular free fatty acid has been developed. When this method was used to quantitate
the free fatty acid content of various cells and tissues, their levels of free fatty acids were found to vary over a wide
range. In comparing tissue culture cells having different levels of free fatty acid, it was demonstrated that the conditions
of culture and the type of serum in the medium are not responsible for the difference in levels. Isotopic studies have shown
that the cellular free fatty acid is not biosynthesized, but is derived from the free fatty acid of the medium. Preliminary
studies on the fate of the intracellular free fatty acid and a discussion of possible factors controlling the level of this

Experiments were conducted to (1) determine whether the electroantennogram (EAG) can detect differences among the responses of antennae from males derived from the three strains ofOstrinia nubilalis (Hübner), and (2) characterize the EAG responses of each strain to isomeric forms of the natural pheromone, (E)- and (Z)-11-tetradecen-1-ol acetate (TDA), and analogs possessing differences in the terminal alkyl group, cyclopropyl (CPA), ortert-butyl (TBA).EAG responses differed among the strains in two ways: (1) Antennae fromZZ males always produced an EAG to (Z)-TDA with an extended duration of response. This signature EAG response was found to be unique to the antennal response ofZZ males to (Z)-TDA, thus providing a relatively easy method of distinguishing liveZZ males fromEE orZE males. Correlated with this longer EAG response was a longer disadaptation time, i.e., the EAG response ofZZ antennae disadapted more slowly (ca. 10 min) than the response ofEE antennae. (2) Strain differences in the relative EAG amplitudes to isomers and analogs were observed at the stimulus amounts eliciting the peak EAG amplitude as follows: TDA CPA > TBA forZZ males and both isomers; TDA > CPA TBA and CPA TDA > TBA forEE males and theE andZ isomers, respectively; CPA > TBA TDA forZE males and both isomers. Dose—response relationships were seen for all compounds if amplitude (peak height) of the EAG was used as a measure of response. However, if width of the EAG at half the peak height (peak width) was used, then only theZZ antennal response to (Z)-TDA resulted in a meaningful dose-response relationship. For all strains, the EAG amplitudes elicited by theZ isomers of any of the tested compounds were greater than those elicited by the correspondingE isomers. Therefore, correlations between the relative EAG and upwind flight responses were observed in theZZ (r = 0.86) andZE (r = 0.80) strains but were not correlated in theEE strain (r = 0.18). Temporal studies showed that adaptation, not postexcision deterioration, was responsible for the observed decreases in the EAG amplitude after repetitive stimulation or after stimulation with amounts in a descending order. Disa-daptation required at least 20 min for a moderate dose (10 g for 1 sec). Developmental studies showed that antennae from 2-day-old adults had the greatest EAG response. 相似文献

Blends of statistical copolymers containing ethylene/hexene (PEH) and ethylene/butene (PEB) exhibited the behavior of upper critical solution temperature (UCST). The interplay between the early and intermediate stage liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) and crystallization of the PEH/PEB 50/50 blend was studied by time-resolved simultaneous small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) techniques. Samples were treated by two different quench procedures: in single quench, the sample was directly quenched from 160 °C to isothermal crystallization temperature of 114 °C; while in double quench, the sample was firstly quenched to 130 °C for 20 min annealing, where LLPS occurred, and then to 114 °C. It was found that in the early stage of crystallization, the integrated values of Iq2 and crystallinity, Xc, in the double quench procedure were consistently higher than those in the single quench procedure, which could be attributed to accelerated nucleation induced by enhanced concentration fluctuations and interfacial tension. In the late stage of crystallization, some morphological parameters were found to crossover and then reverse, which could be explained by retardation of lamellar growth due to phase separation formed during the double quench procedure. This phenomenon was also confirmed by DSC measurements in blends of different compositions at varying isothermal crystallization temperatures. The crystal lamellar thickness determined by SAXS showed a good agreement with TEM observation. Results indicated that the early stage LLPS in the PEH/PEB blend prior to crystallization indeed dictated the resulting lamellar structures, including the average size of lamellar stack and the stack distribution. The polymorph method, which provides phase analysis from a small number of integrated intensities in a powder diffraction scan, is adapted for the determination of monoclinic zirconia in a mixture with cubic, tetragonal. and orthorhombic zirconias and the γ-phase (Mg2 Zr5 O12 ). Such a mixture is representative of Mg-PSZ after subeutectoid aging. The quantitative determination of the monoclinic depends in principle on a knowledge of the relative amounts of the other phases present in the mixture. It is demonstrated, however, that without this knowledge, even in complex mixtures, the traditional polymorph method analysis gives an acceptable estimate of the monoclinic fraction in the sample. 相似文献

Glycidyl carbamate chemistry combines the excellent properties of polyurethanes with the crosslinking chemistry of epoxy resins.
Glycidyl carbamate functional oligomers were synthesized by the reaction of polyfunctional isocyanate oligomers and glycidol.
The oligomers were formulated into coatings with several amine functional crosslinkers at varying stoichiometric ratios and
cured at different temperatures. Properties such as solvent resistance, hardness, and impact resistance were dependent on
the composition and cure conditions. Most coatings had an excellent combination of properties. Studies were carried out to
determine the kinetics of the curing reaction of the glycidyl carbamate functional oligomers with multifunctional and model
amines. Detailed kinetic analysis of the curing reactions was also undertaken. The results indicated that the glycidyl carbamate
functional group is more reactive than a glycidyl ether group.

Low-pressure liquid chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, and field ionization mass spectrometry (f.i.m.s.) were used to obtain compositional information on large-ring number polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) present in a non-distillable coal liquid sample. A highly selective h.p.l.c. method for the separation of (PAH) from polar compounds was applied to nitrogen-compound fractions derived from a Wyodak non-distillable ( > 427 °C) coal-liquid sample. F.i.m.s. analyses revealed that the PAH subfractions isolated by the h.p.l.c. procedure contained large-ring number PAH and relatively few nitrogen compounds. The methods developed can generally be applied to the analyses of complex organic mixtures, and in conjunction with other methods, can yield detailed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compositional information. 相似文献
