Bromate ion occurs during ozonation of bromide-containing waters. The current WHO guideline for bromate ion is 25 μg/L. Bromate analysis in drinking waters can be performed by various techniques. However, given the commonly low concentrations of bromate ion found in drinking waters, the classical methods do not fit for bromate analysis in most cases.

A specific conductimetric method with anion suppression which enhances analyte detection by lowering the eluent conductivity is described in this paper for low bromate level analysis. Three eluents have been tested in order to have the best signal to noise ratio. Some other parameters likely to interfere in bromate ion detection (nitrate and sulfate in particular) are also investigated. Taking into account the results of three interlaboratory trials between six European laboratories, a 2 μg/L detection level for bromate can be established.  相似文献

High resolution thermal expansion measurements on single crystals of κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]X, with X = Br, Cl, I were performed along the three principal directions in the temperature range from 2 to 300K. The temperature dependence of the linear thermal expansion of the two superconductors (X = Br, Cl) is found to be completely different from that of the non-superconducting I-salt. Cooling the I-crystal, we found an elongation of the c- axis, a larger contraction of the a-axis and a smaller contraction of the b-axis in comparison to the bromide- and the chloride- salt. Common to the three compounds are large anomalies in the linear thermal expansion coefficients i at a temperature Td = 84K, 80K, 73K for X = I, Br, Cl, respectively. The magnitude and the sign of these anomalies in i strongly depend on the anion composition. At Td the i's show steplike changes, which lead to a lattice distortion of opposite sign for the superconductors and for the I-salt. These anomalies indicate a second order phase transition at Td, which eventually may be related to a disorder-order transformation of the terminal ethylene groups of the donor molecules.  相似文献

Floridi and Taddeo propose a condition of ‘zero semantic commitment’ for solutions to the grounding problem, and a solution to it. I argue briefly that their condition cannot be fulfilled, not even by their own solution. After a look at Luc Steel's very different competing suggestion, I suggest that we need to re-think what the problem is and what role the ‘goals’ in a system play in formulating the problem. On the basis of a proper (syntactic) understanding of computing, I come to the conclusion that the only sensible grounding problem is how we can explain and re-produce the behavioural ability and function of meaning in artificial computational agents.  相似文献

Tracking the spatio-temporal activity is highly relevant for domains like security, health, and quality management. Since animal welfare became a topic in politics and legislation locomotion patterns of livestock have received increasing interest. In contrast to the monitoring of pedestrians cattle activity tracking poses special challenges to both sensors and data analysis. Interesting states are not directly observable by a single sensor. In addition, sensors must be accepted by cattle and need to be robust enough to cope with a rough environment. In this article, we introduce the novel combination of heart rate and positioning sensors. Attached to neck and chest they are less interfering than accelerometers at the ankles. Exploiting the potential of such combined sensor system that records locomotion and non-spatial information from the heart rate sensor however is challenging. We introduce a novel two level method for the activity tracking focused on the duration and sequence of activity states. We combine Support Vector Machine (SVM) with Conditional Random Field (CRF) and extend Conditional Random fields by an explicit representation of duration. The SVM characterizes local activity states, whereas the CRF addresses sequences of local states to sequences incorporating spatial and non-spatial contextual knowledge. This combination provides a reliable and comprehensive identification of defined activity patterns, as well as their chronology and durations, suitable for the integration in an activity data base. This data base is used to extract physiological parameters and promises insights into internal states such as fitness, well-being and stress. Interestingly we were able to demonstrate a significant correlation between resting pulse rate and the day of pregnancy.  相似文献

We report the implementation of an electrostatic Einzel lens (Boersch) phase plate in a prototype transmission electron microscope dedicated to aberration-corrected cryo-EM. The combination of phase plate, Cs corrector and Diffraction Magnification Unit (DMU) as a new electron-optical element ensures minimal information loss due to obstruction by the phase plate and enables in-focus phase contrast imaging of large macromolecular assemblies. As no defocussing is necessary and the spherical aberration is corrected, maximal, non-oscillating phase contrast transfer can be achieved up to the information limit of the instrument. A microchip produced by a scalable micro-fabrication process has 10 phase plates, which are positioned in a conjugate, magnified diffraction plane generated by the DMU. Phase plates remained fully functional for weeks or months. The large distance between phase plate and the cryo sample permits the use of an effective anti-contaminator, resulting in ice contamination rates of <0.6 nm/h at the specimen. Maximal in-focus phase contrast was obtained by applying voltages between 80 and 700 mV to the phase plate electrode. The phase plate allows for in-focus imaging of biological objects with a signal-to-noise of 5-10 at a resolution of 2-3 nm, as demonstrated for frozen-hydrated virus particles and purple membrane at liquid-nitrogen temperature.  相似文献

Offering product-service bundles (consisting of products and services) is becoming more important for companies. Modifying the organizational structure of the cooperation as well as adapting to changing customer demands requires versatile information systems. Implementing Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) is one attempt to provide this flexibility. Currently, there is little methodical guidance for the identification, specification and implementation of services as building blocks of Service Oriented Architectures. Accounting for this need, a conceptual approach is designed, which adapts approaches of customer integration, and combines a business and IT analysis. The applicability of the method is demonstrated by designing a Service Oriented Architecture for the recycling of electronic equipment. Implementing services for other product-service bundles will support additional integration scenarios. By standardizing services, a sound integration of products and services can be backed by providing a reference architecture.  相似文献

Due to size effects the mechanical behavior of micro-components with dimensions in the range of some 100 μm and structure details of about 10 μm differs markedly from those of larger components. This is a crucial aspect for the design of micro-components for applications where demands for high strength are critical. The present study, which was performed in the frame of the Collaborative Research Centre 499 (SFB 499), approaches this issue by investigating the relationship between production process, microstructure and the mechanical properties of micro-specimens made from zirconia using two different feedstocks. The specimens were produced by a sintering process. The sintering temperature was varied between 1,300 and 1,500°C. Mechanical and tribological behavior of the specimens was determined by three-point bending tests as well as static and sliding friction tests, respectively. Properties derived from these tests were then correlated to the surface states in the specimens such as porosity, edge radius and roughness. The strength of the micro-specimens was found to be significantly influenced by these surface features. Whilst low porosity alone is not sufficient for high strength, notch effects resulting from pores as well as surface roughness can lower the strength. With increasing edge radius the strength of the material also increases. The porosity, edge radius and surface roughness were mathematically correlated with the strength to allow for a forecast. Within the SFB 499 feedstocks with specific properties were designed and reliable processes were developed to guarantee desirable surface roughness and porosity in the specimens. A characteristic bending strength of about 2,000 MPa is realizable in the micro-specimens within a good statistical reliability. The tribological tests revealed that the wear properties of the zirconia micro-components are strongly dependent on the quality of the feedstock.  相似文献

At the ISF (Joining and Welding Institute, RWTH Aachen University) the long-established electron beam (EB) welding process is investigated to meet the requirements of the field of micro-applications. A modified LEO ZEISS DSM 962 scanning electron microscope (SEM) is being used as a Micro-EB welding machine. The diameter of the beam in welding mode is about 20 μm, with a maximum beam power of 6 Watt at 30 kV acceleration voltage. The process-specific advantages, such as the inertia-free movement of the tool electron beam, the very small beam diameter, the clean room environment which is due to processing in a vacuum (no shielding gas needed) and the excellent applicability for visual quality control offer the best preconditions for hybrid micro-assembly purposes. If the technology is down-scaled to a micro-level, physical effects occur whose consequences must be met with new approaches of solution. Joining of micro-components presupposes optimal contact conditions. If the micro-components are of a flexible type, those optimal conditions are difficult to implement. The ratio of forces during the joining process and also the low stiffness of the components which is due to the small dimensions require, on the one hand, the application of a suitable handling technique or, on the other hand, a specific beam manipulation strategy. Especially in the field of micro-applications, the possibility to exert influence on the thermal distortion by symmetrical heating and solidification processes is of particular importance. Therefore, the reproducibility of the welded joints is one of the great challenges in the field of microwelding. The investigations and developments done at the ISF show successful results in joining stainless steel sheet materials down to 30 μm thickness and steel wire down to 50 μm in diameter, whereas other materials (Tungsten, Aluminum, Titanium, Nickel) are under investigation.  相似文献

In this paper, we extend the single relaxation time Lattice-Boltzmann Method (LBM) to the 3D body-centered cubic (BCC) lattice. We show that the D3bQ15 lattice defined by a 15 neighborhood connectivity of the BCC lattice is not only capable of more accurately discretizing the velocity space of the continuous Boltzmann equation as compared to the D3Q15 Cartesian lattice, it also achieves a comparable spatial discretization with 30 percent less samples. We validate the accuracy of our proposed lattice by investigating its performance on the 3D lid-driven cavity flow problem and show that the D3bQ15 lattice offers significant cost savings while maintaining a comparable accuracy. We demonstrate the efficiency of our method and the impact on graphics and visualization techniques via the application of line-integral convolution on 2D slices as well as the extraction of streamlines of the 3D flow. We further study the benefits of our proposed lattice by applying it to the problem of simulating smoke and show that the D3bQ15 lattice yields more detail and turbulence at a reduced computational cost.  相似文献
