Serially-connected series-stub resonators for narrowband coplanar-stripline bandpass filters

In this letter, a coplanar stripline (CPS) series resonator composed of serially-connected series-stubs is proposed. This kind of resonator provides two transmission zeros close to the resonant frequency. With the proposed structure, the reactance slope parameters of the resonators are significantly increased and adjustable by changing the length ratio of the two series stubs. This is useful for designing narrowband filters which is difficult to realize with conventional series CPS resonators. The structures of the resonators are optimized for a lower radiation loss and used to design a narrowband Chebyshev bandpass filter. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed filter provides multiple transmission zeros and high selectivity.     

Induction of immune tolerance with heart-thymus composite allotransplantation in rats

Objective To study on the role of thymus transplantation for heart allograft in rats. Methods Vascularized heart-thymus combined transplantation was performed with microsurgical technique. Graft survival, histopathology, level of IL-2, IL-4 and its mRNA expression in serum and cardiac grafts were investigated. Results Heart-thymus combined transplantation achieved effect in the prolongation of cardiac graft survival with short-term administration of cyclosporine. Conclusions Vascularized thymus transplantation induced immune tolerance in thymectomized rats.

CdSe量子点的制备与荧光特性研究

主要讨论了CdSe量子点的制备及荧光特性。CdSe量子点由化学方法制备，通过选择不同的反应时间得到不同尺度的量子点样品。用荧光方法研究了量子点样品在石英衬底和有机溶剂中的荧光特性。实验表明，这些量子点都有良好的荧光特性。还用无限深球方势阱模型分析了量子点样品的电子态，并根据荧光参数估算了量子点的尺度．各样品荧光峰具有一致的半峰宽，表明CdSe量子点的成核过程在反应开始时同时完成。

Nd3+ Doped Silicate Glass Photonic Crystal Fiber with Random Hole Distributions

The fabrication of one kind of large core area Nd3 doped silicate glass photonic crystal fiber, and demonstration of the fiber's waveguidence properties were reported. This fiber owns a random air hole distribution in the cladding. The measured minimum loss of this kind of fiber is 10 dB·m-1 at 660 nm. These fibers can sustain only a single mode at least over wavelength ranging from 660 nm to 980 nm.     

Toward automatic phenotyping of developing embryos from videos.

We describe a trainable system for analyzing videos of developing C. elegans embryos. The system automatically detects, segments, and locates cells and nuclei in microscopic images. The system was designed as the central component of a fully automated phenotyping system. The system contains three modules 1) a convolutional network trained to classify each pixel into five categories: cell wall, cytoplasm, nucleus membrane, nucleus, outside medium; 2) an energy-based model, which cleans up the output of the convolutional network by learning local consistency constraints that must be satisfied by label images; 3) a set of elastic models of the embryo at various stages of development that are matched to the label images.     

Determination of the field of a permanent-magnet disk machine using the concept of magnetic charge

An analytical solution of the dependence of the field distribution on the three-spatial coordinates in a permanent-magnet (PM) disk machine is obtained using the concept of magnetic charge and the method of images. A good correlation between the analytical solution and experimental data validates the method described. It is further indicated how this method can be extended to more complex problems. It is applicable to other PM machines, such as permanent-magnet linear synchronous motors.<>     

Fractionation and characterisation for antioxidant activity of hydrolysed whey protein

Whey protein isolate (WPI) was hydrolysed for 1 h using Alcalase, Protamex and Flavourzyme. Native WPI, hydrolysed WPI and two commercial WPI hydrolysates were subjected to fractionation by size exclusion chromatography. Antioxidant activity of WPI fractions was measured with a liposome‐oxidising system (50 µM FeCl₃/0.1 µM ascorbate, pH 7.0). Lipid oxidation was measured as thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substances (TBARS). Gel electrophoresis and amino acid analysis were run to identify the peptide composition. The influence of amino acid composition on antioxidant activity was evaluated using multivariate analysis methods (correlation analysis, principal component analysis, multiple linear regression and discriminant analysis). TBARS assays indicated the presence of antioxidant activity in all protein fractions, including non‐hydrolysed WPI. For native and hydrolysed WPI samples the first fraction (> 45 kDa) showed a higher TBARS inhibition effect (24–27%) when compared with lower‐molecular‐weight fractions and hydrolysate mixtures. In contrast, for commercial WPI hydrolysates a higher inhibitory effect was found in most of the lower‐molecular‐weight fractions (30–55%). The ability of WPI fractions to delay lipid oxidation was found to be related to the prevalence of histidine and hydrophobic amino acids. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry
