A dual-mode multiuser detector for DS-CDMA systems

We introduce a dual-mode multiuser detector that dynamically switches its detection mode between matched-filter and decorrelator operations based on the channel characteristics. This detector significantly reduces the overall computational requirement while maintaining similar performance as that of the decorrelator. The switching mechanism of our dual-mode detector is designed by exploiting the performance-complexity tradeoff between the decorrelator and the matched-filter. Extensions of this idea to other types of multiuser detectors are also proposed     

Nucleation Mechanism for Bainite

Based on the experimental results that solute-depleted zone was observed in Cu-28Zn-4AI (mass fraction) at 523 K, AG is calculated as a positive according to the thermodynamic criteria for the spinodal decomposition of a ternary systems. So, the solute-depleted zone cannot be formed by spinodal decomposition. Dislocation density required by the formation of solute-depleted zone is estimated greater than 7.89×109 cm-2, according to the segregation of solute atoms around dislocations, which is not consistent with the practical situation for the alloy at 523 K. Associated with the internal friction experimental fact that internal friction peaks appear within the incubation for bainitic transformation in Cu-Zn-AI alloy, the equilibrium temperature, TO, is evaluated as 433 K for solute-depleted Cu-25Zn-3.4AI, which is lower than the experimental temperature 523 K. Next-day electricity-price forecasting using a hybrid network

The paper proposes a novel method of forecasting short-term electricity price based on a two-stage hybrid network of self-organised map (SOM) and support-vector machine (SVM). In the first stage, a SOM network is applied to cluster the input-data set into several subsets in an unsupervised manner. Then, a group of SVMs is used to fit the training data of each subset in the second stage in a supervised way. With the trained network, one can predict straightforwardly the next-day hourly electricity prices. To confirm its effectiveness, the proposed model has been trained and tested on the data of historical energy prices from the New England electricity market.     

A new colloidal precursor cooperative conversion route to nanocrystalline quaternary copper sulfide

A novel milk-like Cu-thiourea colloid has been synthesized. Nanocrystalline quaternary copper sulfide Cu₂FeSnS₄ was obtained through the Cu-thiourea colloidal precursor cooperative conversion route at low temperature. The samples were characterized by means of X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, and X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy techniques. The reaction details and features were described and discussed.

如何利用循环体诸如初值、终值、步长和下标式等数学对象的诸如恒等、正负、单调性一类的数学特征,按照严格推导出来的简单规则,绕过各种复杂的数据依赖关系图及其上诸如拓扑排序或等价变换等复杂的操作,直接从事向量化处理,这是极富实用价值的研究方向.文献[2,3,5]给出的可原形/准原形算法,以及本文的可反原形与拟离散性,正是这样的捷径.它们能使相当部分的常见循环,直接向量化.     

Neuropsychological functioning of girls with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder followed prospectively into adolescence: Evidence for continuing deficits?

The current study prospectively followed girls with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), along with a matched comparison sample, 5 years after childhood neuropsychological assessments. Follow-up neuropsychological measures emphasized attentional skills, executive functions, and language abilities. Paralleling childhood findings, the childhood-diagnosed ADHD group displayed moderate to large deficits in executive/attentional performance as well as in rapid naming relative to the comparison group at follow up (Mage 14.2 years). ADHD-inattentive versus ADHD-combined contrasts were nonsignificant and of negligible effect size, even when a refined, sluggish cognitive tempo subgroup of the inattentive type was examined. Although ADHD versus comparison group differences largely withstood statistical control of baseline demographics and comorbidities, control of childhood IQ reduced executive function differences to nonsignificance. Yet when the subset of girls meeting diagnostic criteria for ADHD in adolescence was compared with the remainder of the participants, neuropsychological deficits emerged even with full statistical control.
