By the use of atomic force microscopy (AFM), formation mechanism of nodular structure in cellulose acetate membranes was systematically investigated. Elementary factors affecting the nodule formation were delineated on the basis of both kinetic and thermodynamic considerations. It was shown that (1) the exact nature of nodular structure is thermodynamic equilibrium glassy state; nodular structure will vanish in the rubbery state; (2) the thermodynamic factor affecting nodule formation is the membrane formation temperature; with the membrane formation temperature decreasing, more chain segments are able to form nodular structures; (3) nodule formation is dependent on the segment rearrangement; variation of the solvent environment is the major kinetic factor affecting the segment rearrangement and nodule formation. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The onset of hydrodynamical instability induced by impulsive spin-down to rest in a cylinder containing a Newtonian fluid is analyzed by using propagation theory. It is well-known that the primary transient swirl flow is laminar, but with initial high velocities secondary motion sets in at a certain time. The dimensionless critical time Τc to mark the onset of instability is presented here as a function of the Reynolds number Re. Available experimental data indicate that for large Re deviation of the velocity profiles from their momentum diffusion occurs starting from a certain time Τ≈4Τc. This means that secondary motion is detected at this characteristic time. It seems evident that during Τc⪯Τ⪯4Τc, secondary motion is relatively very weak and the primary diffusive momentum transfer is dominant.  相似文献

Three types of copolymers composed of pyrrole and 3-alkyl pyrroles (with alkyl being pentyl, nonyl and undecyl) have been synthesized. A strong linear dependency of the alkyl chain length on the as-prepared copolymer physical properties is demonstrated via (a) DSC (for phase transition temperatures and enthalpy changes) and (b) UV-vis (for wavelengths of the polaronic and bipolaronic electronic transitions, and ratio of the corresponding absorbances). A trend in the copolymers' doping level vs alkyl chain length is also estimated, via IR, by taking the ratio of band intensities of the stretching modes of the polaronic and bipolaronic species. The copolymers are found to be soluble in organic solvents and their solutions can be cast onto glass substrates or metals resulting in thin films, which can be used as the electroactive component of Schottky diodes. The electrical properties of these diodes are also found to be dependent on increasing 3-alkyl chain length.  相似文献

Magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) was prepared by a coprecipitation method. Core–shell composite magnetic polymer microspheres with carboxyl groups were synthesized by the dispersion polymerization of styrene and acrylic acid in the presence of magnetic oxide, and dibenzoyl peroxide was used as an initiator. The synthesized magnetic polymer microspheres were characterized with X‐ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and so forth. The results indicated that the product was single‐phase Fe3O4, and its average size was about 10 nm. The configuration of the microspheres, which contained carboxyl groups, was spherical, and the average size was about 2 μm. The results of vibrating sample magnetometry tests showed that the magnetic powders produced by different surfactants had different saturation magnetizations. When poly(ethylene glycol) with a weight‐average molecular weight of 4000 was used as a surfactant, the saturation magnetization of the samples reached 69.2 emu/g.
