The optimum economic operation and planning of electric power generation systems occupies a crucial position in the electric power industry. Unit commitment (UC) is an important function in generation resource management. Moreover, it is nowadays critical to incorporate reliability analysis of the power system into its design of operation strategy. For this purpose, equipment malfunction or failure should be considered in unit commitment. In this paper, first the model for UC considering generator outages is formulated, where the reliability requirement is incorporated into the spinning reserve constraint in the optimization design. Then, a mixed binary- and real-coded particle swarm optimization (PSO) is developed to locate the optimum generation combination. A 10-generator test power system is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach along the 24-h planning horizon. A comparative study is conducted to examine the impact of reliability constraint on the optimal solution obtained. Collaborative technologies offer a range of new ways of supporting learning by enabling learners to share and exchange both
ideas and their own digital products. This paper considers how best to exploit these opportunities from the perspective of
learners’ needs. New technologies invariably excite a creative explosion of new ideas for ways of doing teaching and learning,
although the technologies themselves are rarely designed with teaching and learning in mind. To get the best from them for
education we need to start with the requirements of education, in terms of both learners’ and teachers’ needs. The argument
put forward in this paper is to use what we know about what it takes to learn, and build this into a pedagogical framework

While the experimental detection of entanglement provides already quite a difficult task, experimental quantification of entanglement is even more challenging, and has not yet been studied thoroughly. In this paper we discuss several issues concerning bounds on concurrence measurable collectively on copies of a given quantum state. Firstly, we concentrate on the recent bound on concurrence by (Mintert and Buchleitner in Phys Rev Lett 98:140505/1–140505/4, 2007). Relating it to the reduction criterion for separability we provide yet another proof of the bound and point out some possibilities following from the proof which could lead to improvement of the bound. Then, relating concurrence to the generalized robustness of entanglement, we provide a method allowing for construction of lower bounds on concurrence from any positive map (not only the reduction one). All these quantities can be measured as mean values of some two-copy observables. In this sense the method generalizes the Mintert–Buchleitner bound and recovers it when the reduction map is used. As a particular case we investigate the bound obtained from the transposition map. This paper outlines a method to identify the friction parameters for servo-pneumatic systems using a mixed-reality environment. To acquire system friction parameters accurately can be extremely difficult once the servo-system has been assembled because of its highly nonlinear nature, which causes a great difficulty in servo-pneumatic system modelling and control. In this research, a mixed-reality environment has been employed to determine the friction parameters effectively and efficiently through online identification. Traditionally, friction parameters identification can be performed manually or automatically using traditional optimization methods or modern ones such as neural networks. The advantages of the proposed method are the high accuracy in the estimated parameters, its simplicity and its speed. This paper describes a technique using dimensional analysis that so far has been rarely, if ever, used in studies of universal
access. However, this procedure can produce a robust decision support process for inclusive designs. In this paper, it is
applied to a case study of a wheelchair robot computer interface with choices in data input methods, addressing disparate
requirements of different groups of intended users. The main underlying issue is to combine technical measurements, speed
of operation and cost with subjective opinion. It turns out that Braglia’s method has greater robustness in determining rank

For people with upper limb disabilities visual art is an important activity that allows for expression of individuality and
independence. They show remarkable endurance, patience and determination to adapt their remaining capabilities to create visual
art. There are significant advantages of digital technologies in assisting artists with upper limb disabilities. Paralinguistic
voice recognition technologies have proven to be a particularly promising mode of interaction. Despite these benefits, technological
support for people with upper limb disabilities to create visual art is scarce. This paper reports on a number of case studies
of several artists with upper limb disabilities. These case studies illustrate the struggles they face to be creative and
also show the significant advantages of digital technologies in assisting such artists. An investigation into people’s ability
to use the volume of their voice to control cursor movement to create drawings on the screen is also reported. With motivation,
training and practise, use of volume to control drawing tasks shows great promise. It is believed that paralinguistic voice
has wider implications beyond assisting artists with upper limb disabilities, such as: an alternative mode of interaction
for disabled people to perform tasks other than creating visual art, alternative mode of interaction for hands busy environments

Interactive displays are increasingly being distributed in a broad spectrum of everyday life environments: they have very
diverse form factors and portability characteristics, support a variety of interaction techniques, and can be used by a variable
number of people. The coupling of multiple displays creates an interactive “ecosystem of displays”. Such an ecosystem is suitable for particular social
contexts, which in turn generates novel settings for communication and performance and challenges in ownership. This paper
aims at providing a design space that can inform the designers of such ecosystems. To this end, we provide a taxonomy that
builds on the size of the ecosystem and on the degree of individual engagement as dimensions. We recognize areas where physical
constraints imply certain kinds of social engagement, versus other areas where further work on interaction techniques for

The life sciences have sprouted several popular and successful OMICS technologies that span all levels of biological information transfer. Ever since the start of the Human Genome Project, the then revolutionary idea to make all resulting data publicly available has been central to all of the efforts across OMICS technologies. As a result, a great variety of publicly available data repositories and resources is currently available to the research community. This widespread availability of data does come at the price of increased confusion on the part of the users, especially for those that see the OMICS technologies as tools to help unravel a larger biological or clinical question. We therefore provide a comprehensive overview of the available resources across OMICS fields, with a special emphasis on those databases that are relevant to the study of proteins. Flucloxacillin is a synthetic penicillin used in the treatment of Staphylococcal infections. Adverse reactions to the drug are believed to arise through covalent modification of proteins, with tissue damage occurring secondary to an immune reaction. Serum proteins have been shown by adduct-specific antibodies to be modified by flucloxacillin, but the nature and sites of modification have not been characterised. Here, in vitro studies on HSA have shown by MS that the modification of protein lysine residues occurs in a dose-, time- and site-dependent manner. Affinity, cation exchange and reversed phase chromatography prior to MS revealed in vivo modification of HSA with flucloxacillin in tolerant patients, with up to nine modified lysine residues being detected in each patient, and with modification of Lys190 and Lys212 being detected in 8/8 patients. It was also revealed for the first time that plasma proteins could be modified with the 5-hydroxymethyl metabolite of flucloxacillin, and that essentially the same Lys residues were targeted by both the parent drug and its metabolite. This study provides a detailed characterisation of sites of chemical modification of an endogenous target and reveals candidate peptides for T-cell and antibody assays of flucloxacillin hypersensitivity. 相似文献

New material combinations have been introduced as the bearing surfaces of hip prostheses in an attempt to prolong their life by overcoming the problems of failure due to wear-particle-induced osteolysis. This will hopefully reduce the need for revision surgery. The study detailed here used a hip simulator to assess the volumetric wear rates of large-diameter carbon-fibre-reinforced pitch-based poly(ether-ether-ketone) (CFR-PEEK) acetabular cups articulating against alumina femoral heads. The joints were tested for 25 x 10(6) cycles. Friction tests were also performed on these joints to determine the lubrication regime under which they operate. The average volumetric wear rate of the CFR-PEEK acetabular component of 54 mm diameter was 1.16 mm(3)/10(6) cycles, compared with 38.6 mm(3)/10(6) cycles for an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene acetabular component of 28 mm diameter worn against a ceramic head. This extremely low wear rate was sustained over 25 x 10(6) cycles (the equivalent of up to approximately 25 years in vivo). The frictional studies showed that the joints worked under the mixed-boundary lubrication regime. The low wear produced by these joints showed that this novel joint couple offers low wear rates and therefore may be an alternative material choice for the reduction of osteolysis. 相似文献
