The influence of sample set structure on decision rule quality for the case of a linear discriminant function is considered. Specifically, the case of missing data in the sample set and the case when the multivariate random variable is to be registered with the help of a single-channel device are investigated. Some rather unusual phenomena are discussed, such as when some new samples are added to the sample set, and as a result the quality of parameter estimations used in a decision rule become better, but at the same time the quality of the decision rule itself becomes worse. The investigation is performed for the classical model of a twocategory classifier when the categories are described by the multivariate normal densities having common covariance matrices. Some results of statistical simulation experiments are included.  相似文献

Bovine lameness results in pain and suffering in cattle and economic loss for producers. A system for automatically detecting lame cows was developed recently that measures vertical force components attributable to individual limbs. These measurements can be used to calculate a number of limb movement variables. The objective of this investigation was to explore whether gait scores, lesion scores, or combined gait and lesion scores were more effectively captured by a set of 5 limb movement variables. A set of 700 hind limb examinations was used to create gait-based, lesion-based, and combined (gait- and lesion-based) models. Logistic regression models were constructed using 1, 2, or 3 d of measurements. Resulting models were tested on cows not used in modeling. The accuracy of lesion-score models was superior to that of gait-score models; lesion-based models generated greater values of areas under the receiving operating characteristic curves (range 0.75 to 0.84) and lower mean-squared errors (0.13 to 0.16) compared with corresponding values for the gait-based models (0.63 to 0.73 and 0.26 to 0.31 for receiving operating characteristic and mean-squared errors, respectively). These results indicate that further model development and investigation could generate automated and objective methods of lameness detection in dairy cattle.  相似文献

Boneless pork loins sliced into 1.9 cm fresh chops were dipped to retain 0, 1.5 or 3% sodium lactate (SL) and packaged in polyvinylchloride (PVC) or vacuum-packaged (VP), Color of fresh chops was monitored visually and objectively. Boneless pork loins were cured by injection with 0, 1.5 or 3% SL, or were dipped after slicing to retain 0, 1.5 or 3% SL. Cure for the dipped loins contained no SL. Color and aerobic plate count (APC) of vacuum-packaged chops were evaluated over 70 days of retail storage (4C). Visual color was darker (P < 0.05) and L* values were lower (P < 0.05) for 3% SL-dipped fresh chops. Fresh chops containing 1.5 and 3% SL had higher a* values than controls. Surface discoloration of 3% SL fresh chops was lower (P < 0.05) than control chops. Cured injected chops (3% SL) had lower (P < 0.05) L* values than dipped chops or injected controls. L*, a* and b* values of cured dipped chops (3% SL) were not different (P > 0.05) from controls. No consistent trends were found in APC of cured chops. Injection of SL prior to cooking darkened the color of cured pork loin chops.  相似文献

The longissimus lumborum, gluteus medius, and the triceps brachii muscles from 40 animals were used to evaluate the effect of stress gene genotype (non-mutant, NN and mono-mutant, Nn) and live weight at slaughter (110 kg and 140 kg) on the processing quality of fresh pork. The 45 minute and ultimate pH measurements did not differ between genotypes. Total percent protein was not different between samples taken from NN or Nn pigs, nor were there any differences in salt-soluble protein. The M. longissimus lumborum from Nn pigs possessed lower water-holding capacity values and lost greater amounts of water upon cooking. In addition, Nn pigs had lower subjective color and firmness scores which suggest a higher incidence of pale, soft and exudative pork. Slaughter weight did not affect total protein, salt-soluble protein, Minolta L(?), a(?) and b(?) values or subjective color, firmness and marbling scores. Back fat thickness and loineye area increased as slaughter weight increased. Overall, this study suggested that Nn pigs have reduced water retention properties which may result in lower yields in processed meat items. Slaughter weight had limited effects on the processing quality of meat from NN or Nn pigs. There were no interactions of significance between stress gene genotype and slaughter weight, suggesting that the differences in muscle quality and functional properties between NN and Nn pigs are maintained over the slaughter weights used in this study.  相似文献

We describe the development of a novel method for real-time in situ characterization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in submerged freshwater sediments. Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy, a mature technique for PAH characterization in terrestrial sediments, was adapted for shipboard use. A cone penetrometer-type apparatus was designed for probe penetration at a constant rate (1 cm/s) to a depth of 3 m. A field-portable LIF system was used for in situ measurements in which the output of a pulsed excimer laser was transmitted by optical fiber to a sapphire window (6.4-mm o.d.) in the probe wall; fluorescent emission was collected by a separate optical fiber for transmission to the spectrometer on deck. Four wavelengths (340, 390, 440, 490 nm) were selected via optical delay lines, and multiple-wavelength waveforms were created. These multiple-wavelength waveforms contain information on the fluorescence frequency, intensity, and emission decay rate. Field testing was conducted at 10 sites in Milwaukee Harbor (total PAH concentrations ranged from approximately 10 to 650 microg/g); conventional sediment core samples were collected concurrently. The core samples were analyzed by EPA methods 3545 (pressurized fluid extraction, PFE) and 8270C (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, GC-MS) for PAHs. A partial least-squares regression (PLSR) model wasthen created based on laboratory LIF measurements and PFE-GC-MS of the core samples. The PLSR model was applied to the in situ field test data, and 13 of the 16 EPA-regulated PAHs were quantified with a relative error of <30% overall (the remaining three PAHs were found at levels insufficient to quantify). We additionally describe preliminary source apportionment relationships that were revealed by the PLSR model for the in situ LIF measurements.  相似文献

This work reports on the features of a sorption processes for the ultimate removal and recovery of reactive phosphorus from aquaculture and poultry production wastewater effluents. The sorbent used was a cross-linked polyamine (PAA-HCl) polymeric hydrogel. The PAA-HCl hydrogels were prepared by chemically cross-linking aqueous solutions of linear PAA-HCl chains with epichlorohydrin (EPI). The phosphorus binding capacity of the gels was measured in standard aqueous solutions as a function of ionic strength. Equilibrium PO4(3-), loadings of 100 mg anion/g gel were obtained. The regeneration ability of the gels was demonstrated by release of the bound phosphorus anions upon washing with 1-2 M NaOH solution, providing opportunities to recover and reuse the gel over multiple cycles. The ionic polyamine gels have been demonstrated to be appropriate materials for treating poultry and aquaculture wastewater effluents. Upon treatment phosphorus anion concentrations were reduced to levels suitable for discharge into natural surface waters.  相似文献

Cold-pressed chardonnay, muscadine, ruby red, and concord grape seed oils and their defatted flours were studied for their fatty acid composition, oxidative stability and antioxidant and antiproliferative activities. The phenolic profiles of the seed flours were also measured. The most abundant fatty acid in the oils was linoleic acid, ranging from 66.0 g/100 g of total fatty acids in ruby red seed oil to 75.3 g/100 g of total fatty acids in concord seed oil. The oils were also high in oleic acid and low in saturated fat. Ruby red grape seed oil recorded the highest oxidative stability index of 40 h under the accelerated conditions. Total phenolic content (TPC) was up to 100 times lower in the oils than in the flours. Lutein, zeaxanthin, cryptoxanthin, β-carotene, and α-tocopherol levels were also measured. DPPH radical-scavenging capacity ranged from 0.07 to 2.22 mmol trolox equivalents (TE)/g of oil and 11.8 to 15.0 mmol TE/g of flour. Oxidative stability of menhaden fish oil containing extracts of the seed flours was extended by up to 137%. HPLC analysis was conducted to determine the levels of free soluble, soluble conjugated and insoluble bound phenolics in the seed flours. The phenolic compounds analyzed included catechin, epicatechin, epicatechin gallate, quercetin, gallic acid, and procyanidins B1 and B2. Antiproliferative activity was tested against HT-29 colon cancer cells. All of the seed flours and muscadine seed oil registered significant (P < 0.05) inhibition of cancer cell growth. The results from this study demonstrate the potential of developing value-added uses for these seed oils and flours as dietary sources of natural antioxidants and antiproliferative agents for optimal health.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the National Research Council's recommendations for feeding levels of rumen undegraded protein (RUP) for cows fed a one-group total mixed ration. Sixty Holstein cows were paired by parity (1 to 6) and DIM (23 to 315) and were randomly assigned to one of two treatment sequences. Diets contained alfalfa silage (30% diet DM) and corn silage (26% diet DM), and were isonitrogenous (16% CP) and isocaloric (1.71 Mcal/kg). Soybean meal, protected soybean meal (Soy Best), and urea were used to make ration protein fractions that were predicted to be 35 or 29% RUP. The 35% RUP diet was formulated to provide 98 and 105% of the average requirement for RUP and rumen degraded protein (RDP), respectively. The ration containing 29% RUP provided 79 and 117% of average required RUP and RDP, respectively. All cows were group-fed the high RUP diet during a 2-wk pretreatment period, and then were fed one ration for 4 wk followed by the other for 4 wk according to their assigned treatment sequence. Data were collected in the last wk of each period. Mean milk production, milk fat, and milk protein were 32.6 kg/d, 4.35%, and 3.36%, respectively, with no treatment differences. Treatment response was not affected by degree of predicted RUP deficiency. National Research Council requirements for RUP may be too high for cows fed diets similar in energy to a one-group total mixed ration. Alternatively, estimates of RUP content of feedstuffs may be low.  相似文献
