Intrinsic uncertainties of MEMS fabrication processes can severely affect the performance of devices because the tolerance ranges of these processes are relatively large and improvement of process accuracy is very expensive. Therefore, the analysis of fabrication uncertainties and their outcome on a device performance is a vital task before finalizing the design. In this paper, the effects of process inaccuracy on the performance of MEMS tunable capacitors are studied. Design parameters such as dimensions of electrodes and the initial gap between them and the stiffness of supporting beams are considered as random variables. The variation of these parameters within tolerance ranges drastically alters the capacitor's actual response from the desired one and results in low yield. Hence, design optimization with the objective of maximizing yield in early steps becomes very important. An effective method for yield optimization of MEMS capacitors under given fabrication uncertainties is introduced. The method utilizes aspects of the advanced first-order second-moment (AFOSM) reliability method to find a linearized feasible region to estimate the yield. The yield is calculated directly using the joint cumulative distribution function (CDF) over the tolerance box requiring no numerical integration and avoiding computational complexity. The optimal design verified by Monte-Carlo (M-C) simulation exhibits a significant increase in the yield. The main advantage of this method comparing to other design optimization methods is that the proposed method does not change the design topology or fabrication accuracy. Brownfield redevelopment (BR) is an ongoing issue for governments, communities, and consultants around the world. It is also an increasingly popular research topic in several academic fields. Strategic decision support that is now available for BR is surveyed and assessed. Then a dominance-based rough-set approach is developed and used to classify cities facing BR issues according to the level of two characteristics, BR effectiveness and BR future needs. The data for the classification are based on the widely available results of a survey of US cities. The unique features of the method are its reduced requirement for preference information, its ability to handle missing information effectively, and the easily understood linguistic decision rules that it generates, based on a training classification provided by experts. In this paper, we consider the online version of the following problem: partition a set of input points into subsets, each enclosable by a unit ball, so as to minimize the number of subsets used. In the one-dimensional case, we show that surprisingly the naïve upper bound of 2 on the competitive ratio can be beaten: we present a new randomized 15/8-competitive online algorithm. This study presents a new Y-channel design for measuring the zeta potential and surface conductance of a solid-liquid pairing
using the current monitoring technique. The new design improves the throughput and reliability of the testing apparatus since
the displacement between two solutions can be repeated many times without interfering with the experiments. It also increases
the accuracy of the measurement by producing sharper start and end transitions for the current–time plot of the solution displacement
process. In this design, efforts have been made to minimize the effects of electrolysis, Joule heating and undesired pressure
driven flow on the measurements. An improvement on the current–time slope analysis is also presented. The Y-channel design
was validated by comparing zeta potential measurements to published results. The zeta potential of several biological buffers
relevant to the microfluidic community in plasma treated PDMS/PDMS and PDMS/Glass microchannels are presented. Preliminary

Multi-display groupware (MDG) systems, which typically comprise both public and personal displays, promise to enhance collaboration,
yet little is understood about how they differ in use from single-display groupware (SDG) systems. While research has established
the technical feasibility of MDG systems, evaluations have not addressed the question of how users’ behave in such environments,
how their interface design can impact group behavior, or what advantages they offer for collaboration. This paper presents
a user study that investigates the impact of display configuration and software interface design on taskwork and teamwork.
Groups of three completed a collaborative optimization task in single- and multi-display environments, under different task
interface constraints. Our results suggest that MDG configurations offer advantages for performing individual task duties,
whereas SDG conditions offer advantages for coordinating access to shared resources. The results also reveal the importance

In this paper, a variation of the method of designing surfaces for flank milling proposed by Li et al. 2006 (Surface design for flank milling. Submitted to CAD, July) is presented. Li’s method is based on the premise that the surface flank milled by a cylindrical tool can be represented by a NURBS surface and can be used by designers to build efficient impellers, blades and other engineering parts. In the proposed method, a four control point curve is used to approximate the grazing curves and for subsequent generation of a polynomial surface. This eliminates the need of weights for the interior control points and still results in a good surface. The accuracy of the surface can be controlled by adding control points. Explosive compaction of Ni and NiAl powders was utilized for the processing of Ni/NiAl metal-matrix composites containing up to 57 vol% NiAl particulate. The microstructure, the Vickers microhardness and the Ni/NiAl interfacial bonding strength were studied. The resulting microstructure had a very low volume fraction of porosity ( 1 vol%) except for the melting zone formed in the upper portion of a cylindrical specimen. NiAl particles underwent welding during explosive compaction; this was particularly pronounced at the highest volume fractions of NiAl. The lowest microhardness of the Ni matrix was observed in the central portion of a cylindrical specimen. Other parts of the matrix were heavily cold-worked, indicating that a recrystallization had occurred in the centre. NiAl particles were also highly cold-worked regardless of their volume fraction in the composite. The Ni/NiAl interfacial bond strength, measured by the indentation debonding technique, was highest in a composite containing 57 vol% of NiAl particulate. 相似文献

Summary The general equations for the radiation dose dependence of irradiated polymer molecular weights have been solved exactly. For an initial most probable molecular weight distribution (=1), the solutions are analytical and exact. For the general case (1) the solutions are numerical and exact. The present approach has resulted in the solutions for both =1 and 1 being incorporated into a group of FORTRAN computer programs which will solve experimental data for scission and crosslinking yields by both minimization and exact treatments.
