Stegobium paniceum (L.) (Coleoptera: Anobiidae) is among the major pests of stored products, causing great damage to stored Chinese medicinal plant materials (CMPMs) in China. Effective control strategies are urgently needed. The aim of this study was to explore the role of volatile organic compounds in the host preference of S. paniceum. First, the olfactory behavioral responses of S. paniceum adults to volatiles from four CMPMs (Panax notoginseng, Angelica sinensis, Gastrodia elata, and Peucedanum praeruptorum) were tested in Y-tube olfactometer experiments. Then, the volatile composition of these plant materials were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). S. paniceum showed significant preferences for volatiles from the four CMPMs, compared with clean air (CA). When S. paniceum was presented with choices among different CMPMs, it showed the strongest preference for P. notoginseng, followed by A. sinensis, then G. elata, and P. praeruptorum. GC-MS analysis identified 43, 34, 28 and 60 components in the volatile profiles of P. notoginseng, A. sinensis, G. elata, and P. praeruptorum, respectively. Falcarinol (14.4%), 3-n-butyl phthalide (78.7%), p-cresol (40.1%), and β-pinene (29.1%) were the most abundant components of the volatiles of P. notoginseng, A. sinensis, G. elata, and P. praeruptorum, respectively. The olfactory responses of S. paniceum to the four CMPMs demonstrated that host-related volatiles play an important role in the host-searching process by adult beetles. This information will be useful for the development of safe and effective trapping strategies for this pest.  相似文献

Ozone was investigated as a potential alternative to control phosphine resistant strains of the lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.). The efficacy of 0.21 and 0.42 g/m3 concentrations of ozone against one phosphine-susceptible laboratory and two phosphine-resistant field strains of R. dominica was evaluated. Vials holding 20 adults with 0 and 10 g of wheat were exposed to each ozone concentration for up to 24 h to estimate lethal doses required for 50 (LD50) and 99% (LD99) mortality. After ozone exposure, mortality was assessed 5 d later. There were no significant differences between LD50 values of the samples exposed to 0.21 and 0.42 g/m3, regardless of strains and presence or absence of wheat. The small amount of wheat (10 g) affected efficacy at 0.21 g/m3, but showed a non-significant effect at 0.42 g/m3. Ozone tends to react with active sites on the surface of wheat kernels prior to reaching an effective lethal concentration for insects. High ozone concentration in the supply air reduced the time to saturate all active sites and ensured that lethal levels of free ozone were available to kill insects.Ozone successfully suppressed the adult progeny production for all tested strains. Emergence of adults from eggs of all three strains was reduced by 96.3–100% only after 72 h exposure to an ozone concentration of 0.42 g/m3. At the same ozone concentration, emergence of adults from young and old larvae was reduced by 97.1–99.7% after a 24 to 34 h exposure. However, reduction in emergence of adults from ozone exposed pupae at 10 h varied among the strains and ranged from 32.8 to 96.6%. After 2 and 6 h of exposure the reduction in emergence of adults from pupae ranged from 19.6 to 76.5%.  相似文献

The effects of polysaccharides, theaflavins, thearubigins and theabrownin fractions of Zijuan tea on α‐glucosidase and blood glucose level and intolerance of hyperglycaemic mice were evaluated. The polysaccharides or theaflavins fraction exhibited greater inhibition rate of α‐glucosidase than acarbose positive control, thearubigins fraction or theabrownin fraction. The four fractions were delivered to the treatment mice through oval gavage each day for 15 days. The mice in polysaccharides and theaflavins high‐ and low‐dose and theabrownin high‐dose treatments significantly lowered their blood glucose levels while all the treatment mice gained body weight. The mice in polysaccharides, theaflavins and theabrownin high‐ and low‐dose treatments had greater glucose tolerance as well. Thus, the theaflavins and polysaccharides fractions of Zijuan tea effectively moderated the complications of hyperglycaemic mice. The lower effectiveness of thearubigins and theabrownin fractions may be caused by the highly polymerised polyphenolics which decreased their accessibility to α‐glucosidase and digestibility in mice.  相似文献

This study assessed a continuous in-line decontamination system for food contact surfaces and processing equipment that utilized cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAP) generated from ambient air. The plasma system was evaluated against two common foodborne pathogens (Salmonella Typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes) on stainless steel surfaces and against S Typhimurium on commercial poly[ether]-thermoplastic poly[urethane] (PE-TPU) conveyor belts, under simulated conditions of a food-processing facility. A significant level of microbial inactivation was achieved, up to 3.03 ± 0.18 and 2.77 ± 0.71 logCFU/mL reductions of L. monocytogenes and S. Typhimurium respectively within 10 s total treatment on stainless steel surfaces, and a 2.56 ± 0.37 logCFU/mL reduction of S. Typhimurium within 4 s total treatment on the PE-TPU material, according to a procedure based on the well-established EN 13697:2015 industrial protocol. CAP exposure was shown to have a minor impact on the morphology and composition of the treated surfaces. The results indicated that CAP can be applied for effective and continuous disinfection against common foodborne pathogens in food-processing facilities.Industrial relevanceLow temperature plasmas have shown great promise for microbial decontamination, yet industrial uptake of the technology has been limited due to scaling limitations. In this study, a prototype conveyor-based CAP decontamination system was developed and tested under realistic conditions expected within a food-processing facility. The results showed a high level of antimicrobial action against two common foodborne pathogens within a few seconds of CAP exposure, a timescale in line with industrial line processing speeds. Our findings demonstrated that CAP shows great promise for the continuous in-situ decontamination of food contact surfaces, with the potential to mitigate against the costly downtimes incurred in current production line practices implementing chemical disinfectants.  相似文献

Spice paprika powders from Bulgaria, China, Hungary, Peru, Serbia and Spain were examined to identify the most important differences in their major characteristics and to attempt to find chemical components revealing their origin. Bioactive components, contaminants, aroma and microbiological properties were determined: the amount of carotenoids, tocopherols, ascorbic acid and mycotoxins were determined by HPLC, flavoring properties by GC-MS, lead and cadmium content by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Carotenoids were found at the highest concentration in samples from Peru and Spain and at the lowest, in Serbian samples. The concentrations of total tocopherol and ascorbic acid were found to be greater in samples from Hungary than from China. Aroma components characteristic to the location were detected in samples from each country of origin. The level of microbiological contamination was acceptable, while contaminants were found in Serbian, Spanish, Peruvian and Chinese samples. The effect of sample origin was also investigated using near infrared spectroscopy.  相似文献

The use of chlorine-based sanitizers is widespread throughout the fresh produce industry in the process water to maintain microbial safety of produce, avoid cross-contamination and recycle water. In this study, alternative disinfection technologies were investigated due to the negative reports showing chlorine instability in the presence of organic matter and the undesirable by-product residues. Tsunami® (15.2% peroxyacetic acid and 11.2% hydrogen peroxide) and high-power ultrasound (HPU, 0.56 kW/l, 20 kHz), alone or in combination, were evaluated in lettuce process water analyzing their ability to reduce MNV during either produce washing or water recycling. PAA concentrations of 6.4, 12.8 and 16 mg/l as well as HPU were insufficient for application in the produce washing tank where a rapid MNV inactivation is required. In contrast, a complete rapid inactivation of MNV (7.4 log TCID50) was recorded when 80 mg/l of PAA was used. For recycled water reconditioning, HPU was applied and no virus reduction was observed. Two PAA concentrations (6.4 and 12.8 mg/l) that can be found in the recycled water were also tested. The MNV inactivation was faster at 12.8 mg/l than at 6.4 mg/l of PAA with 2.6 and 2 log reductions after 20 min contact. One additional log reduction was achieved 20 and 40 min later, respectively. MNV inactivation fitted the Bipashic model well. A contact time of 95 and 115 min would be required to obtain the complete elimination of MNV (4.4 log TCID50) by 6.4 and 12.8 mg/l of PAA. PAA efficacy was not enhanced by the combination with HPU in contrast to the inactivation of pathogenic bacteria tested in other studies. This indicates that viruses are more resistant to this hurdle technology than pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella and other HPU conditions such as higher frequencies and combination of HPU with other physical treatments need to be explored.  相似文献

Fourteen hull‐less barley cultivars, collected from four major cultivated areas in China, were employed to investigate the structural and physicochemical properties of their starches in this study. Relatively wide variations in physicochemical properties of the starches were observed. Amylose content ranged from 23.1% to 30.0%, swelling power and water solubility index ranged from 12.8 to 19.9 g g?1 and 12.7% to 23.7% respectively. Peak viscosity was from 170 to 346 Rapid Visco Unit (RVU), peak temperature (Tp) of starch gelatinisation was from 55.6 to 61.8 °C and enthalpy of starch retrogradation ranged from 0.3 to 3.1 J g?1. Weight‐based chain‐length proportions of fa, fb1, fb2 and fb3 in amylopectins ranged from 21.65% to 24.95%, 44.48% to 49.44%, 15.56% to 17.19% and 9.83% to 16.66% respectively. Correlation analyses showed that amylose content was inversely related to pasting parameters and enthalpy of gelatinisation. Pasting properties and amylopectin structures were the most important parameters to differentiate starch properties among different hull‐less barley cultivars in this study. This work will be useful for exploring applications of Chinese hull‐less barley starches in food and non‐food industries.  相似文献
