Hardness and fracture toughness of moissanite

Disparities prevail among the reported hardness and fracture toughness values for hard and brittle materials. A better understanding of the physical nature of hardness and fracture toughness and a standardized technique for reliable measurements of these quantities is urgently needed. We strongly recommend the use of the measured hardness after the bend in the hardness versus load (H−F_Load) curve, when the hardness approaches its asymptotic value. The present work reports a systematic study of hardness and fracture toughness on moissanite (single crystal hexagonal silicon carbide, 6H-SiC) samples. The measurements were performed over a broad load range from 0.49 to 294 N with the direct indentation method. Asymptotic values of Knoop hardness of H_K = 19 GPa and Vickers hardness of H_V = 22 GPa were reached at a high load between 50 N and 100 N. A consistent fracture toughness of K_IC = 1.8 MPa·m^1/2 was obtained across the entire load range. Our study presents experimental results for the hardness and fracture toughness of moissanite in the asymptotic-hardness region, and it raises concern regarding the application of moissanite single crystals as anvil material under shear/fracture conditions.     

Efficient usage of highly dispersed Pt on carbon nanotubes for electrode catalysts of polymer electrolyte fuel cells

A Pt-deposited carbon nanotube (CNT) shows higher performance than a commercial Pt-deposited carbon black (CB) with reducing 60% Pt load per electrode area in polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) below 500 mA/cm². K₂PtCl₄ and H₂PtCl₆·6(H₂O) are used for the Pt deposition onto multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs), which are produced by the catalytic decomposition of hydrocarbons. The electric power densities produced using the Pt/CNT electrodes are greater than that of the Pt/CB by a factor of two to four on the basis of the Pt load per power. CNTs are thus found to be a good support of Pt particles for PEFC electrodes. TEM images show 2–4-nm Pt nanoparticles dispersed on the CNT surfaces. These high performances are considered to be due to the efficient formation of the triple-phase boundaries of gas–electrode–electrolyte. The mechanisms of Pt deposition are discussed for these Pt-deposited CNTs.     

高纯乙酰氯生产工艺的改进

通过对国内乙酰氯现有生产工艺的考察、研究,对传统的醋酸和三氯化磷合成法进行了工艺改进,改进后工艺的产品收率比原来提高近6%,达到96.3%以上,产品质量达到99.0%以上,反应条件更加温和,操作容易控制,基本无三废产生,生产成本明显降低。     

乙炔吸收系统倒开车实现装置产品快速合格

中国石油吉林石化公司聚乙烯厂700kt/a乙烯装置老区采用溶剂吸收技术脱出乙炔精制乙烯工艺。多年来,乙炔吸收塔塔顶回流泵开车初期不上量问题一直制约着装置开车进度。经过摸索,技术人员尝试对开车流程进行调整,攻克了难题。文中对该装置具体的调整措施进行了阐述。     

New type of tin support for hydroprocessing catalyst

TiN supported molybdenum sulfide catalysts showed much higher activity for cleavage of C-C bonds than oxide supported molybdenum sulfide catalysts, indicating the possibility of a new generation of supports for hydroprocessing catalysts.     

玻纤增强聚苯硫醚复合材料的增韧研究

针对玻纤增强聚苯硫醚材料韧性差的问题，对聚苯硫醚傲璃纤维复合体系的增韧进行了研究，考察了玻纤、改性聚合物、有机超细粒子对复合材料力学性能的影响。采用基体增韧（预增韧）与有机超细粒子增韧技术，在保持复合材料拉伸强度和模量的同时，较大地提高了冲击强度，获得了综合力学性能优异的纤维增强聚苯硫醚材料。

Mechanical properties of DLC films prepared inside of micro-holes by pulse plasma CVD

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films are metastable amorphous carbon materials with superior tribological characteristics. In order to improve wear resistance of micro-extrusion dies with numerous imperceptible holes, DLC films were deposited on the inner wall surface of model dies with holes of 2 and 0.9 mm in diameter, and 20 mm in depth by using pulse plasma CVD method. This paper will discuss how argon gas, deposition pressure and time affect the characteristics of films deposited on the inner wall surface of dies. This micro-coating method can be applied widely for inner wall surface treatment of components with thin holes.
