This research assessed the economic impact and construction costs of buildings with solar chimneys in Thailand, called bioclimatic houses. A solar chimney uses a combination of air gaps between walls and roof, and effective ventilation to lower the indoor temperature and reduce the need for air conditioning. The study looked at small, medium, and large size houses and studied construction techniques, the materials used, and the time needed to build a residential structure. It also polled owners of bioclimatic houses about their satisfaction. The techniques employed in building bioclimatic houses take slightly longer and cost slightly more than those used in standard construction. However, the study found that bioclimatic houses use approximately 10–20% less electricity for air conditioning require less maintenance and have a payback period of 6–13 years, depending on the size. The lifespan of insulation material used in standard houses is about 20–25 years, while the lifespan of a solar chimney is about 40–50 years. The solar chimney concept can also be applied to standard houses with minimal renovation. The study found that this type of house was suitable for use in Thailand, and with increased consumer awareness, had a high probability for adoption.  相似文献

The influence of different levels of alkalinity, expressed using the Na2O-to-source material ratio (n) and activator SiO2-to-Na2O ratio (Ms), on the compressive strength development of, and reaction product formation in sodium silicate and NaOH powder activated slag binder systems is discussed. Higher n value mixtures are found to exhibit higher early and later age compressive strengths. An increase in Ms results in reduced early age and slightly increased later age strengths. Compositional coefficients, which are functions of n and Ms are proposed, that relate to the early and later age strengths of the activated slag binders as well as to the shift in the FTIR spectra. The reaction product formation in these systems as a function of the total alkalinity is explained using the shifts of the dominant peak in the FTIR spectra. Fundamental changes in reaction products of powder activated binders as a function of alkalinity is observed. The deductions from the peak shifts are substantiated using the FTIR spectra of the pastes before and after salicylic acid–methanol (SAM) attack.  相似文献

In this work, the fullerene C60 nano-oil is proposed as a promising lubricant to enhance the performance of domestic refrigerator compressors. The stability of fullerene C60 nanoparticles dispersed in a mineral oil and the lubrication properties of the nano-oil were investigated experimentally. It was confirmed that the nanoparticles steadily suspend in the mineral oil at stationary conditions for a long period of time. The friction coefficients of the nano-oil significantly decrease with increasing the concentration of nanoparticles in the mineral oil, especially at the lower applied loads. The friction coefficients of the nano-oil with the concentration of 1–3 g L−1 are 12.9–19.6% lower than that of pure mineral oil. The applications of the nano-oil with the specific concentration of 3 g L−1 to two domestic refrigerator compressors were examined by compressor calorimeter experiments. The results shows the COPs of two compressors were improved by 5.6% and 5.3%, respectively, when the nano-oil was used instead of pure mineral oil.  相似文献

Over the last decade an increasing number of free and open source software projects have been founded that concentrate on developing several types of software for geographic data collection, storage, analysis and visualization. We first identify the drivers of such software projects and identify different types of geographic information software, e.g. desktop GIS, remote sensing software, server GIS etc. We then list the major projects for each software category. Afterwards we discuss the points that should be considered if free and open source software is to be selected for use in business and research, such as software functionality, license types and their restrictions, developer and user community characteristics, etc. Finally possible future developments are addressed.  相似文献

Determining the distribution of fluids in porous sedimentary rocks is of great importance in many geological fields. However, this is not straightforward, especially in the case of complex sedimentary rocks like limestone, where a multidisciplinary approach is often needed to capture its broad, multimodal pore size distribution and complex pore geometries. This paper focuses on the porosity and fluid distribution in two varieties of Massangis limestone, a widely used natural building stone from the southeast part of the Paris basin (France). The Massangis limestone shows locally varying post-depositional alterations, resulting in different types of pore networks and very different water distributions within the limestone. Traditional techniques for characterizing the porosity and pore size distribution are compared with state-of-the-art neutron radiography and X-ray computed microtomography to visualize the distribution of water inside the limestone at different imbibition conditions. X-ray computed microtomography images have the great advantage to non-destructively visualize and analyze the pore space inside of a rock, but are often limited to the larger macropores in the rock due to resolution limitations. In this paper, differential imaging is successfully applied to the X-ray computed microtomography images to obtain sub-resolution information about fluid occupancy and to map the fluid distribution in three dimensions inside the scanned limestone samples. The detailed study of the pore space with differential imaging allows understanding the difference in the water uptake behavior of the limestone, a primary factor that affects the weathering of the rock.  相似文献

Although carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials have proven effective in strengthening steel structures especially when used to improve fatigue behaviour, further study is required to investigate their effectiveness when applied at different stages of crack propagation in steel elements. This paper presents a numerical study on CFRP retrofitted steel plates with different degrees of damage using the boundary element method (BEM). The numerical results compared well with the experimental data, which demonstrated that the BEM is reliable for crack propagation analysis of CFRP laminate retrofitted steel plates. Finally, a parametric analysis was conducted to investigate the influence of bond length, bond width, CFRP stiffness and adhesive shear modulus on stress intensity factor (SIF) values.  相似文献

The response of prestress secondary reactions in the post-elastic range has been a topic of much controversy. Due to the brittleness of FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) composites, external FRP tendon members may have different moment redistribution characteristics compared to conventional concrete members. This paper presents a numerical investigation into the secondary reactions and moment redistribution in prestressed concrete continuous members with external CFRP tendons. The investigation parameters include the initial prestress level and the pattern of loading. The secondary reactions are computed using a newly developed method based on the linear transformation concept combined with a nonlinear finite element analysis. The results indicate that the secondary reactions increase quicker after concrete cracking and nonprestressed steel yielding. As a consequence, the secondary moment should be included in the design moment. The moment redistribution behavior for symmetrical loading is shown to be quite different from that for unsymmetrical loading. The study also shows that the effect of initial prestress on the moment redistribution is rather important.  相似文献

With the construction industry moving rapidly towards Building Information Modelling (BIM), it is essential that various analysis tools used in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) domain are interoperable with a non-proprietary open BIM schema such as the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC). The UK government will be requiring fully-collaborative BIM in all public sector projects by 2016 and is also chasing the target of achieving zero-carbon buildings by 2019. This dual target will require the use of renewable energy analysis tools in the early stages of the building design process and establish the need for these tools to be IFC-compliant. This paper presents a conceptual framework for developing IFC-compliant renewable energy simulation tools using a multi-model concept in which the IFC data model provides partial input data required to run simulation models. A prototype has been developed as a ‘proof-of-concept’ for an IFC-compliant solar PV simulation tool. The prototype has been validated against other solar PV simulation tools such as PV*Sol, RETScreen® and HOMER to provide credibility to the simulation model. The developed conceptual framework is applicable not only to solar PV simulation but other renewable energy simulation models as well, thereby making an IFC-compliant renewable energy modelling tool capable of conducting, energy, carbon emissions and financial analysis.  相似文献

Monitoring of workers' physiological conditions can potentially enhance construction workforce productivity, safety, and well-being. Recently, Physiological Status Monitors (PSMs) were validated as an accurate technology to assess physiological conditions during typical sport science and medicine testing procedures (e.g., treadmill and cycle ergometer protocols). However, sport science and medicine testing procedures cannot simulate routine construction worker movements in a comprehensive manner. Thus, this paper investigated the validity of two PSMs by comparing their measurements with gold standard laboratory instruments' measurements at rest and during dynamic activities resembling construction workforce's routine activities. Two physiological parameters such as heart rate and breathing rate were considered. Ten apparently healthy subjects participated in the study. One of the PSMs proved to be a viable technology in assessing construction workers' heart rate (correlation coefficient ≥ 0.74; percentage of differences within ± 11 bpm  84.8%).  相似文献
