The effectiveness of a new type of alkali activator is studied. The activator is a product of silica fume. The results obtained showed the silica fume activator as a highly effective substance for the alkali activation of the combinations of Portland cement, silica fume and blast furnace slag, and slag alone. The positive effect of activator is based on the intensification of the production of calcium silicate hydrates and the densifying of the forming pore structure of the activated binder. 相似文献

Thermal conductivity enhancements in ethylene glycol and synthetic engine oil in the presence of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are investigated. CNT nanofluids are prepared using a two-step method. The volume concentration of CNT–ethylene glycol suspensions is below 1.0 vol.% and that of CNT–synthetic engine oil suspensions is below 2.0 vol.%. The thermal conductivities of the CNT suspensions are measured with a modified transient hot wire method. The results show that CNT–ethylene glycol suspensions have noticeably higher thermal conductivities than the ethylene glycol base fluid without CNT. The results for CNT–synthetic engine oil suspensions also exhibit the same trend. For CNT–ethylene glycol suspensions at a volume fraction of 0.01 (1 vol.%), thermal conductivity is enhanced by 12.4%. On the other hand, for CNT–synthetic engine oil suspension, thermal conductivity is enhanced by 30% at a volume fraction of 0.02 (2 vol.%). The rates of increase are, however, different for different base fluids. The CNT–synthetic engine oil suspension has a much higher enhanced thermal conductivity ratio than the CNT–ethylene glycol suspension. 相似文献

A new catalyst, ruthenium-tin-alumina is found to selectively hydrogenate oleic acid to 9-octadecen-1-ol (oleyl + elaidyl
alcohol) at low pressure with high yield. Catalyst preparation methods, catalyst raw materials and activation conditions have
a significant effect on the activity of the catalyst. The optimum atomic ratio of ruthenium to tin is about 1:2. Catalyst
prepared by an improved sol-gel method shows higher activity and selectivity than catalysts prepared by impregnation and coprecipitation
methods. Chloride is found to have a negative effect on catalytic activity. The best catalyst is prepared from chloride-free
ruthenium and tin raw materials. Under the optimum reaction conditions of 250°C and 5.6 MPa, the selectivities for 9-octadecen-1-ol
and total alcohol (9-octadecen-1-ol + stearyl alcohol) formation are 80.9% and 97%, respectively, at a conversion of 81.3%. 相似文献

Cytokines are central to the development of effective immunity against microbial pathogens and their beneficial effects in the control of a variety of infections of man and animals are well-documented. However, it appears that cytokines may also have detrimental effects in infections by actually enhancing microbial growth. Crude and distilled palm oil methyl esters conveniently known as palm diesel have been successfully evaluated as diesel substitute. Crude palm oil methyl esters are produced from transesterification of crude palm oil with minor components such as carotenes and vitamin E still intact and they are reddish in colour. The distilled palm oil methyl esters are obtained after the recovery of minor components (e.g. Carotenes and vitamin E) From the crude palm oil methyl esters. These valuable minor components are preferably to be recovered as they can be sold as value-added products before they are burnt together with the methyl esters as fuel. Although both possesses fuel characteristics which are comparable to those of petroleum diesel, crude palm oil methyl esters are found to exhibit better oxidative stability (rancimat induction period >25 h) than distilled palm oil methyl esters (about 3.5 h). It is attributed to the presence of vitamin E (about 600 ppm), a natural antioxidant in the former. While the distilled palm oil methyl esters contain practically no vitamin E (<50 ppm) and as a result, they exhibit poor oxidative stability. Thus, the crude palm oil methyl esters meet the european standard for biodiesel (EN 14214) which has set a minimum rancimat induction period of 6 h. In the present study, research was conducted to enhance the oxidative stability of distilled palm oil methyl esters in order to meet the aforementioned standard. Natural and synthetic antioxidants were used in the present study to investigate their effect on the oxidative stability of distilled palm oil methyl esters. It was found that both types of antioxidant showed beneficial effects in inhibiting the oxidation of distilled palm oil methyl esters. Comparatively, the synthetic antioxidants were found to be more effective than the natural antioxidants as lower dosage (17 times less) was needed to achieve the minimum rancimat induction period of 6 h. 相似文献

Isothermal crystallization of plam oil was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as well as by nuclear
magnetic resonance spectrometry to monitor its solid fat content (SFC). The temperature of crystallization (Tc) varied from
0 to 30°C, depending on the method used. The plot of %SFC vs. time at 25°C was sigmoidal in shape. However, at lower temperatures,
two consecutive curves were clearly visible. Results from DSC experiments showed the following interesting features. At each
Tc, the crystals produced were of different compositions. From 0 to 8°C, the thermogram showed three peaks, with the first
two peaks (I and II) sharp, and the third (III) rather broad. At elevated temperatures up to 20°C, peak II disappeared totally
while peak III tended to shift toward peak I. Above 20°C, both peaks shifted downward to longer times. Peak I continued to
be broadened, and then suddenly disappeared at Tc above 24°C. The melting thermograms of the crystals obtained above and below
this cut-off point were distinctly different. Kinetic studies on isothermal crystallization based on the data of SFC measurements
showed that the data fit well into the Avrami-Erofeev equation with n=3 over the first 70% of the crystallization. 相似文献
