Porous diatomite ceramics were prepared by alkali treatment of the raw powder without any sintering procedure. The alkali treatment was carried out by dissolution of the surface by KOH solution to form solid crosslinking among the powder particles near room temperature. The effect of the amount and concentration of KOH solution on the properties of the porous diatomite ceramics was investigated. Variation of the treatment factors was found to be effective for controlling properties such as porosity, strength and thermal conductivity. Mixing a larger amount of high-concentration KOH solution with the raw powder could promote dissolution and the formation of thicker necks between particles by solid crosslinking. The resultant porous diatomite ceramics showed comparable compressive strength and thermal conductivity to those of sintered materials. The proposed method is therefore a useful tool for the preparation of high-performance porous ceramics near room temperature. 相似文献

Detailed simulations have been performed for a single zone building to calculate the maximum heating and cooling loads as well as specific annual energy consumption for a single zone building. Numerical results have been used to derive parametric equations as a function of the thickness of insulation as well as the surface to volume ratio (A/V) taking into account the effect of increasing height as well as increasing length and width. For un-insulated building, the energy consumption increases steeply with increasing height, whereas for an insulated building, the energy consumption decreases slightly. For increasing lengths and widths, the change in energy consumption is a mild positive slope. The optimum thickness of the insulation obtained in the paper corresponds to the recommended U-values of roof and the walls in the building code of India, U being the total heat transfer coefficient. 相似文献

The design of the reactor pressure vessel is an important issue in the VHTR design due to its high operating temperature. The extensive experience base in Light Water Reactor makes SA508/533 steel emerge as a strong candidate for the VHTR reactor vessel but requires maintaining the vessel temperature below the ASME code limit. To meet the temperature requirement, three types of vessel cooling options for a prismatic core VHTR are considered: an internal vessel cooling, an external vessel cooling, and an internal insulation. The performances of the vessel cooling options are evaluated by using a system thermo-fluid analysis code and a commercial computational fluid dynamics code during normal operation and accidents. The results suggested that the internal vessel cooling with the modified inlet flow path will be a promising option. The external cooling option does not ensure an effective cooling of the RPV. The insulation option provides an effective reduction of the RPV temperature in the normal and accident conditions but reduces the fuel safety margin during the accidents, requiring careful consideration before the implementation. 相似文献
