Achieving maximum flow in interference-aware wireless sensor networks with smart antennas

Directional antenna offers various benefits for wireless sensor networks, such as increased spatial reuse ratio and reduced energy consumption. In this paper, we formulate the maximum flow problem as an optimization problem in interference-limited wireless sensor networks with switched beam directional antennas. The optimization problem is solvable in the presence of an omniscient controller, but it is NP-hard. Therefore, we seek a distributed algorithm to achieve the maximum flow through jointly routing and scheduling. The maximum flow between given source destination pair is determined forwardly hop by hop and is verified by the proposed feasible condition at downstream nodes. This method works for both single-beam antenna and multi-beam antenna with some variation in the feasibility condition.

Source code verification of a secure payment applet

This paper discusses a case study in formal verification and development of secure smart card applications. An elementary Java Card electronic purse applet is presented whose specification can be simply formulated as “in normal operation, the applet’s balance field can only be decreased, never increased”. The applet features a challenge-response mechanism which allows legitimate terminals to increase the balance by putting the applet into a special operation mode. A systematic approach is used to guarantee a secure flow of control within the applet: appropriate transition properties are first formalized as a finite state machine, then incorporated in the specification, and finally formally verified using the Loop translation tool and the PVS theorem prover.

基于模糊神经网络的变电站电压无功综合控制

对目前运用较多的变电站电压无功控制设备的原理和缺点进行了分析，并首先提出利用模糊神经网络来实现变电站电压无功控制的方法。利用模糊神经网络控制方法，既可保持变电站电压在合格的范围内，尽量维持无功功率平衡，而且具有较好的寻优能力，有效减少变压器有载调压开关的切换次数和电容器组的投切次数，提高了变压器和电容器的运行寿命，提高了经济效益，是一值得进一步探索和运用的较为先进的方法。

Smart doorplate

This paper introduces the vision of smart doorplates within an office building. The doorplates are able to display current situational information about the office owner, to act instead of the office owner in case of absence, and to direct visitors to the current location of the office owner based on a location-tracking system. Different scenarios are proposed and a prototype implementation is presented.     

Smart marketplaces: a step beyond Web services

This paper identifies a new form of Internet intermediaries called smart marketplaces. Beyond other online marketplaces and strategic alliances, a smart marketplace provides an infrastructure and various core service components to facilitate the real-time integration of Web services. The structure of smart marketplaces and potential players are discussed. We analyze the business value of service integration offered by a smart marketplace, and further investigate the competition within and between smart marketplaces. Effect of smart stiffening procedure on low-velocity impact response of smart structures

The paper presents the response of smart hybrid composite plate subjected to low-velocity impact. The low-velocity impact response of the composite plate embedded with shape memory alloy (SMA) wires is investigated. The SMA wires are embedded within the layers of the composite laminate. The first-order shear deformation theory as well as the Fourier series method is utilized to solve the dynamic governing equations of the hybrid composite plate analytically. The interaction between the impactor and the plate is modeled with the help of two degrees-of-freedom system, consisting of springs-masses. The Choi's linearized Hertzian contact model is used in the impact analysis of the laminated hybrid composite plate. The stiffness of the composite structures classified into two new groups. Interactive and non-interactive effects of these stiffnesses are studied too. In addition, a procedure named smart stiffening procedure (SSP) was used to improve the impact resistance of the composite structures. It was seen that by using of the SSP, the mechanical characteristics of the structure could be improved the most.
