Does a regional accent perturb speech processing?

The processing costs involved in regional accent normalization were evaluated by measuring differences in lexical decision latencies for targets placed at the end of sentences with different French regional accents. Over a series of 6 experiments, the authors examined the time course of comprehension disruption by manipulating the duration and presentation conditions of accented speech. Taken together, the findings of these experiments indicate that regional accent normalization involves a short-term adjustment mechanism that develops as a certain amount of accented signal is available, resulting in a temporary perturbation in speech processing. Stability analysis of an adaptive packet access scheme for mobile communication systems with high propagation delays

In this paper, we investigate a packet access scheme that is able to support mixed traffics in the presence of high propagation delays. Referring to a Time‐Code Division Multiple Access air interface, we propose a Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol based on a random access scheme. A successful attempt grants the use of a slot‐code resource. This protocol is named Adaptive Time Code‐Packet Reservation Multiple Access (ATC‐PRMA), since the access parameters are changed, depending on the traffic load conditions, so as to fulfil Quality of Service requirements. Numerical examples are carried out for the Low Earth Orbit (LEO)‐Mobile Satellite System (MSS) scenario, but all these considerations could be applied to High‐Altitude Platform Stations (HAPSs) as well. In both cases, high propagation delays prevent an immediate feedback to users. An analytical approach is proposed to study the stability of our MAC scheme. Accordingly, we define a criterion for optimizing system performance. The predicted ATC‐PRMA behaviour is supported by simulation results. Finally, we show the performance improvement of ATC‐PRMA with respect to a MAC protocol not employing adaptive parameters. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Evidence-Based Solutions for Overcoming Access Barriers, Decreasing Attrition, and Promoting Change With Underserved Families.

Various definitions exist for what constitutes family therapy. In this article, we consider family therapy to encompass any intervention that targets family interactions and conceptualizes problems as existing beyond individual clients. Numerous individual studies and several quantitative reviews have established family therapy as an effective treatment modality and the treatment of choice for many disorders. However, critiques of existing service provision highlight the unfortunate fact that numerous barriers to treatment exist at multiple levels of the broader ecology, preventing many families from benefiting from these services. 驻极体声传感器及其储电材料的现状

综述了驻极体声传感器及其储电材料近年来的迅猛发展。传统的FEP(tetrafluoroethylene—hexa—fluoropropylene copolymer)极体电容式声传感器及以铁电聚合物PVDF(poly vinylidene fluoride)家族为芯片的声传感器和超声抉能器仍焕发着青春活力。Si基微型驻极体声传感器的理论和实验研究已经日趋成熟，而用空间电荷型多孔聚合物驻极体压电薄膜为芯片可望研制出新一代声电和电声传感器、压力传感器和驱动器。     

有杆泵抽油系统可靠性分析

抽油机井有杆果采油装置检泵故障数据的特点在于相邻两次检泵间隔之间的时间并非总是来自同一总体，可能有某种趋势的变化。通过对故障数据的趋势性检验，可验证其对某一随机过程模型的适应性，从而判定某一口井或某一批工况大致相同油井的运行可靠性，实现对生产井运行可靠性的定量评估。还通过实例说明了有杆泵抽油系统检泵故障数据的可靠性分析方法。     

Relationship between Relaxation Internal Friction Peak at about 200℃(f≈1Hz)and Bainitic Transformation In a CuZnAl Alloy

The present investigation showed that the re-laxation peak at about 200℃ (f≈1Hz) was relatedto bainitic transformation in a CuZnAl alloy.Thepeak decreased when bainite precipitated.Theactivation energy of the peak was the same as theapparent activation energy of bainitic transforma-tion.According to the relations between the peakand the bainitic transformation,the mechanism ofthe peak has been discussed.     

A note on calculating autocovariances of long-memory processes

In this paper, we consider a method (splitting) for calculating the auto- covariances of fractional integrated processes (ARFIMA) and generalized integrated processes (GARMA). The splitting method does not require any restriction on the autoregressive roots, and allows fast calculation of the autocovariances of these processes.
