Potential protein degradation balance and total metabolizable protein supply to dairy cows from heat‐treated faba beans

The effects of pressure toasting (100, 118 and 136 °C for 3, 7, 15 and 30 min) on potential protein nutritional value of faba beans were evaluated with the NRC 2001 dairy model, by determining undegraded (RUP) and degraded rumen protein (RDP), undegraded (RUST) and degraded rumen starch (RDST), truly absorbed undegraded protein (ARUP), microbial protein (MCP_RDP) synthesized in the rumen from rumen‐available protein, truly absorbed rumen synthesized microbial protein (AMCP), truly absorbed rumen endogenous protein (AECP), total metabolizable protein (MP) in the small intestine, and the protein degradation balance (PDB). The treatments increased RUP, RUST, ARUP and MP (p < 0.001), and decreased RDP, RDST, MCP_RDP and PDB (p < 0.001), the effects increasing with increasing temperature and time. The treatments increased (p < 0.001) ARUP without affecting AECP and AMCP, so that the net absorbable total MP in the small intestine was increased. The PDB was reduced (p < 0.001) but never became negative. These results indicated that potential microbial protein synthesis would not be impaired due to sufficient nitrogen in the rumen, but the high positive PDB values with most treatments, except 136 °C for 15 min (PDB 2.0 g kg^?1 DM) indicated that there were large potential losses of nitrogen in the rumen, particularly for the control with a value of 88.9 g kg^?1 dry matter. It is concluded that predicted potential protein degradation balance and total metabolizable protein supply from faba beans were improved by the treatments. Alcohol Use in College Students: Effects of Level of Self-Esteem, Narcissism, and Contingencies of Self-Worth.

The unique effects of level of self-esteem, narcissism, and contingencies of self-worth assessed prior to college on alcohol use during the freshman year were examined in a longitudinal study of 620 college students. Narcissism predicted alcohol use, but level of self-esteem did not. Basing self-worth on appearance predicted more alcohol use, whereas the virtue, God's love, and academic competence contingencies predicted less alcohol use, independent of other personality measures and joining a sorority or a fraternity. Further, the virtue and academic competence contingencies were associated with decreases in alcohol use from the 1st to the 2nd semester. This editorial introduces the current issue of the Journal of Educational Psychology. This issue embarks on a year-long celebration through which we recognize 100 years of our parent organization, the American Psychological Association, in the business of psychology. The Journal's contribution to the celebration is the following: In each 1992 issue, we will publish one or more special articles, special in the sense that these articles have been solicited rather than submitted and in the sense that they reflect on selected aspects of the science and status of educational psychology as we approach the 21st century. 利用EDA技术进行设计性实验的研究与开发,是改革传统数字电路实验教学模式的有效途径,能帮助学生熟悉和掌握最先进的电路设计方法和技能.通过实例分析及实验结果的对比,介绍了EDA技术中Multisim 2001软件平台在数字电路综合设计性实验中的具体应用及特点,阐明了EDA技术实验环境（仿真实验）与实际操作实验环境（实物实验）的优缺点,指出在数字电路设计性实验教学中,仿真实验与实物实验相结合的重要性.仿-实结合是现代数字电路设计性实验的最佳教学模式.     

Analysis of isoflavone concentration and composition in soybean [<Emphasis Type="Italic">Glycine max</Emphasis> (L.)] seeds between the cropping year and storage for 3 years

The objective of this study was to examine the relation between storage period and isoflavone concentration and composition in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] seeds. Total isoflavones varied from 470.0 to 878.1 µg g^–1 over the three cropping years and there were significant differences between the soybean cultivars. Generally, the malonyl conjugates were in higher concentrations than were the other compounds, and the individual isoflavones varied with each cropping year. The Myeongjunamul (1998: 936.7 µg g^–1, 1999: 727.0 µg g^–1, 2000: 807.8 µg g^–1) cultivar had the highest concentration, on average. Regarding changes in isoflavones with storage period, the concentration decreased by 91.7 to 171.1 µg g^–1. Malonyldaidzin and malonylgenistin concentrations also decreased, and the concentration of glucosides increased slightly over the 3 years. Acetyldaidzin, acetylglycitin and glycitein could not be detected or were only found in very small concentrations. Pureun (–66.2 µg g^–1) and Myeongjunamul (–77.4 µg g^–1) cultivars showed little variation in isoflavone levels, whereas the concentration in Muhan (–295.4 µg g^–1) decreased markedly on average over the three storage years. There were also significant differences between the cultivars. Our study suggests that it might be feasible to improve the storage methods of soybeans to preserve them for longer periods, which would have benefits for both their import and their export.S.H. "计算机科学与技术导论"课程是为刚入学的计算机及相关专业学生开设的计算机入门课程,其目的是使学生对计算机科学与技术这门学科有一个整体的认识。对于专业引导的不同观点决定了这门课程的教材多种多样,这两年的趋同性表现在根据系统性和公理性都很强的CC2001-CS和CCC2002编写的教材不断出现。这里笔者抛开教材的选择,谈谈近几年从事"计算机科学与技术导论"课程(以下简称"导论"课程)教学的一些心得和想法。
