With its advantages in wirelength reduction and routing flexibility compared with conventional Manhattan routing, X architecture
has been proposed and applied to modern IC design. As a critical part in high-performance integrated circuits, clock network
design meets great challenges due to feature size decrease and clock frequency increase. In order to eliminate the delay and
attenuation of clock signal introduced by the vias, and to make it more tolerant to process variations, in this paper, we
propose an algorithm of a single layer zero skew clock routing in X architecture (called Planar-CRX). Our Planar-CRX method
integrates the extended deferred-merge embedding algorithm (DME-X, which extends the DME algorithm to X architecture) with
modified Ohtsuki’s line-search algorithm to minimize the total wirelength and the bends. Compared with planar clock routing
in the Manhattan plane, our method achieves a reduction of 6.81% in total wirelength on average and gets the resultant clock
tree with fewer bends. Experimental results also indicate that our solution can be comparable with previous non-planar zero
skew clock routing algorithm.

In this paper, a multivariable direct adaptive controller using multiple models without minimum phase assumption is presented
to improve the transient response when the parameters of the system jump abruptly. The controller is composed of multiple
fixed controller models, a free-running adaptive controller model and a re-initialized adaptive controller model. The fixed
controller models are derived from the corresponding fixed system models directly. The adaptive controller models adopt the
direct adaptive algorithm to reduce the design calculation. At every instant, the optimal controller is chosen out according
to the switching index. The interaction of the system is viewed as the measured disturbance which is eliminated by the choice
of the weighing polynomial matrix. The global convergence is obtained. Finally, several simulation examples in a wind tunnel
experiment are given to show both effectiveness and practicality of the proposed method. The significance of the proposed
method is that it is applicable to a non-minimum phase system, adopting direct adaptive algorithm to overcome the singularity
problem during the matrix calculation and realizing decoupling control for a multivariable system.

This brief paper reports a hybrid algorithm we developed recently to solve the global optimization problems of multimodal
functions, by combining the advantages of two powerful population-based metaheuristics—differential evolution (DE) and particle
swarm optimization (PSO). In the hybrid denoted by DEPSO, each individual in one generation chooses its evolution method,
DE or PSO, in a statistical learning way. The choice depends on the relative success ratio of the two methods in a previous
learning period. The proposed DEPSO is compared with its PSO and DE parents, two advanced DE variants one of which is suggested
by the originators of DE, two advanced PSO variants one of which is acknowledged as a recent standard by PSO community, and
also a previous DEPSO. Benchmark tests demonstrate that the DEPSO is more competent for the global optimization of multimodal
functions due to its high optimization quality.
