The formal-CAFE methodology and model checking patterns in the specification of e-commerce systems

Electronic commerce is an important application that has evolved significantly recently. However, electronic commerce systems are complex and difficult to be correctly designed. Guaranteeing the correctness of an e-commerce system is not an easy task due to the great amount of scenarios where errors occur, many of them very subtle. In this work we presents a methodology that uses formal-method techniques, specifically symbolic model checking, to design electronic commerce applications and to automatically verify them. Also, a model checking pattern hierarchy has been developed—it specifies patterns to construct and verify the formal model of e-commerce systems. We consider this research the first step to the development of a framework, which will integrate the methodology, an e-commerce specification language based on business rules, and a model checker. Adriano Pereira received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science in 2000 and 2002, respectively, and he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His current interests are on performance analysis and modeling of e-business and distributed systems, and formal methods. Mark Song received the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His current interests are on distributed systems and formal methods – especially BMC (Bounded Model Checking). Gustavo Franco received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science in 2001 and 2004, respectively, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His research was on modeling the user behavior of e-business and distributed systems, and formal methods. Actually his current interests are on software engeneering and project management of IT projects.

应用并行技术实现CAD／CAM的高度集成

传统的CAD/CAM系统由于设计思想本身的局限性,其内部只能达到一种松散的基于数据交换的低水平的集成,产品的设计方法也不符合工程技术人员的设计思路。本文提出了基于全耦合的单一数据模型的并行CAD/CAM系统设计思想,使得CAD/CAM系统内部达到以数据共享为基础的高度集成。并行CAD/CAM系统充分体现了工程技术人员的思维方式及产品设计过程的反复性和协调性。此外,文中还提出广义参数化设计的新概念,它与特征设计方法的有机结合保证了产品模型的完整性和产品设计过程的同步性。特征共享是实现CAD和CAM集成的关键因素。并行CAD/CAM系统应用面向对象软件设计思想,实现了复杂数据模型的内部封装,并为数据模型和功能模块之间提供简单直观的界面。面向对象设计方法是开发并行CAD/CAM系统的有效手段。     

CONSTRUCTION OF ADMISSIBLE OPERATION CONDITION DOMAIN FOR WELL-STIRRED REACTORS DURING THEIR DESIGN AND CONTROL STAGES

The work examines the problem of constructing an admissible operation condition domain for a well-stirred reactor which would satisfy restrictions in conversion, selectivity, heat removal and stability. The domain is very important and must be known during the reactor design and control stages because it yields visual information for analyzing the reactor operations and makes it possible to find the variation intervals of decision variables, necessary to calculate and optimize the reactor. Being known, the admissible operation condition domain makes it possible to estimate the limiting restrictions and to choose the necessary reserves. The domain has completely been studied analytically for chemical processes with arbitrary kinetics.     

Computerised trace method for establishing equations for dimensions and tolerances in design and manufacture

A computerised trace method has been developed for determining the relationships of assembly requirements with design dimensions and tolerances of the components in an assembly, and the relationships of design specifications and machining allowance requirements with manufactured dimensions and tolerances of the component in a process plan. This method traces from the proposed components or planned operations only the dimensions and tolerances that affect the given requirement, and therefore the equations for design or for manufacture can be established simultaneously and accurately. Hence it is possible to establish constraints for the optimisation of dimensions and tolerances for design or for manufacture.     

Design Errors: Inefficiency or Carelessness of Designer?

Design defects are experienced in many projects; the difference is only in the extent of occurrence. This technical note discusses a design error case in a building project in Nepal, where the designer made the wrong assumptions in roof treatment work for waterproofing as well as for heat insulation purposes. From the investigation of the problem, it was found that the waterproofing polymer was not applied directly over concrete slab top. Use of heavy concrete block as a heat insulation material also helped to increase the leakage problem. The problem evoked loss of prestige for project officials, the design consortium, and the contractor.
