Espaces métriques rationnellement présentés et complexité, le cas de l'espace des fonctions réelles uniformément continues sur un intervalle compact

We define the notion of rational presentation of a complete metric space, in order to study metric spaces from the algorithmic complexity point of view. In this setting, we study some representations of the space C[0,1] of uniformly continuous real functions over [0,1] with the usual norm: ||f||_∞ = Sup{|f(x)|; 0x1}. This allows us to have a comparison of global kind between complexity notions attached to these presentations. In particular, we get a generalization of Hoover's results concerning the Weierstrass approximation theorem in polynomial time. We get also a generalization of previous results on analytic functions which are computable in polynomial time.

A Demonstration of High-Throughput Electrophoresis

Automating electrophoresis significantly reduces the time required for loading a large number of samples, increases the speed of electrophoresis analysis, and maximizes the resolution power (clear separation of fragments) of this technique. In addition, automation increases the precision of electrophoresis analysis. Here we demonstrate an automated, high-throughput method of loading 96 samples simultaneously onto an electrophoresis gel, using the Apogent Discoveries Tango™ system and the Invitrogen™ E-Gel® 96 system.     

Two-Color Capillary Electrophoresis with On-Column Excitation and Wave-Guide Based Fluorescent Detection

An optical wave-guide based two-color capillary electrophoresis laser induced fluorescence (CE-LIF) instrument is described. The wave-guide based approach allows for on column excitation and detection with two-color discrimination. The instrument is designed to allow either electrokinetic or hydrodynamic injections. In its present configuration, the attainable limit of detection (LOD, S/N = 3) was 50 X 10⁻²¹ moles of fluorescein with a 488-nm excitation source. This study was designed to test the instrument design for applications in protein analyses. Fluorescent dyes with two different wavelengths were simultaneously separated and detected as were complexes formed by labeled antibodies to NFκB p65 and cdc2p34. Quantification of both proteins in THP-1 cell lysates performed using this approach illustrates a rapid screening application of this instrument.     

Developing an Automated Enzyme Immunoassay for High-Throughput Screening of Bovine Serum Antibodies to Neospora Caninum

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for Neospora caninum antibodies was automated with a robotic workstation, the Beckman Coulter Biomek 2000, to screen 200 bovine sera. Comparing these results with manually run ELISA data, a 95.92% agreement (K = 0.9592) between the two assays was obtained. The automated assay was specific and sensitive with excellent positive and negative predictive values. The results were repeatable and reproducible. The automation flexibility was high and the operation complexity was minimal. High-throughput screening (HTS) for bovine antibodies to Neospora caninum was achieved. The assay was developed according to the internationally recognized ISO17025 standard requirements.     

Two-point higher-order BVPs with singularities in phase variables

The existence of solutions for singular higher-order differential equations with the Lidstone or the (n,p) boundary conditions is proved. The right-hand sides of differential equations can have singularities in the zero value of their phase variables and so higher derivatives of solutions changing their signs can pass through these singularities. Proofs are based on the method of a priori estimates, the degree theory arguments and on Vitali's convergence theorem.     

Interpolation functions of feedforward neural networks

Mathematical essence and structures of the feedforward neural networks are investigated in this paper. The interpolation mechanisms of the feedforward neural networks are explored. For example, the well-known result, namely, that a neural network is an universal approximator, can be concluded naturally from the interpolative representations. Finally, the learning algorithms of the feedforward neural networks are discussed.     

Simultaneous H control of a finite collection of linear plants with a single nonlinear digital controller

This paper considers the problem of simultaneous H^∞ control of a finite collection of linear time-invariant systems via a nonlinear digital output feedback controller. The main result is given in terms of the existence of suitable solutions to Riccati algebraic equations and a dynamic programming equation. Our main result shows that if the simultaneous H^∞ control problem for k linear time-invariant plants of orders n₁,n₂,…,n_k can be solved, then this problem can be solved via a nonlinear time-invariant controller of order nn₁+n₂++n_k.     

INS algorithm using quaternion model for low cost IMU

This paper presents a generic inertial navigation system (INS) error propagation model that does not rely on small misalignment angles assumption. The modelling uses quaternions in the computer frame approach. Based on this model, an INS algorithm is developed for low cost inertial measurement unit (IMU) to solve the initial attitudes uncertainty using in-motion alignment. The distribution approximation filter (DAF) is used to implement the non-linear data fusion algorithm.
