The objective of this contribution is to describe thermal degradation of pistachio shells by a detailed reaction mechanism. Pistachio shells are assumed to be composed of hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin of which degradation is described by relevant kinetics based on experimental data. The mechanism yields a detailed composition of product gases, and therefore, is well-suited to predict evolution of both thermal decomposition and products. Thermal degradation is described by a system of coupled differential conservation equations for mass, momentum, species, and energy for a pistachio shell particle. The relevant conservation equations are discretised by the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and solved within the conversion module of the Discrete Particle Method (DPM). A comparison between experimental data and predicted results yielded good agreement. 相似文献

Bed collapsing experiments were carried out in a cold-air transparent column 192 mm in diameter and 2 m high. Typical Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst with a mean particle size of 76 μm and a density of 1400 kg/m3 was used. Both single and double-drainage protocols were tested. The local pressure drop and bed surface collapse height were acquired throughout the bed settling.Typical results were found regarding dense phase voidage of a fluidised bed and the bed surface collapse velocity. In addition, bubble fraction was calculated based on the collapse curve.Experimental results showed that windbox effect is significantly reduced compared to previous works since the volume of air within the windbox was reduced. The comparison of single/double-drainage protocols revealed a new period in the defluidisation of Geldart-A particles concerning gas compressibility. Through the temporal analysis of local pressure drop, the progress of the solid sedimentation front from bottom to top was determined, analysed and modelled. 相似文献

Planetary ball mills feature attractive properties, like the possibility of dry or wet operation, straightforward handling, cleanability and moderate costs. Consequently they are very well suited for lab scale process development in diverse industries, including pharmaceuticals and new materials. A number of questions still remain unanswered regarding this mill type. These include the stress conditions as well as transfer of the grinding results to other types of mills with free moving balls, such as stirred media mills, which can be built in large scales and operated continuously.In order to measure the ball motion and, thus, the stress conditions, a planetary ball mill was equipped with a high speed video camera, so that the grinding ball motion during the comminution process can be recorded and analysed. The influence of important process parameters on the ball motion pattern was assessed in this study, namely speed ratio, ball filling ratio and friction conditions, the latter by applying different mill feeds. The experimental results show considerable influences of the ball filling ratio and friction conditions. The measured ball motion patterns differ significantly from ball trajectories which were calculated using kinetic equations proposed in older publications.In addition to the measurements the ball motion was simulated using a three dimensional Discrete Element Model (DEM). An attempt was made to account for mill feed via altered friction coefficients. Correlations of the DEM results and experimental findings at different operating conditions show a good agreement. Based on simulation data the frequency distribution of the stress energies in the mill could be calculated and compared for different operating conditions. 相似文献

Some constituent intermetallic (IMPs) particles at the surface of aluminium alloys are considered as preferential sites for the initiation of structural corrosion resulting in localized trenching around the particles and the surrounding Al matrix. In this work, a modified scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) experiment was used to induce such phenomena via a local alcalinisation on 200 nm thick aluminium coatings promoting their local dissolution in an aerated 0.1 M NaCl electrolyte. The local alcalinisation was induced by the oxygen reduction reaction on the tip of a SECM which mimics the surface of an isolated IMP. From a phenomenological point of view, reproducible cylindrical damage develops in front of the platinum ultramicroelectrode (UME). Using a 2D finite element modelling to simulate the SECM experiments, the role of the local alcalinisation was validated and the calculated Al dissolution rate was found in agreement with the experimental evaluation. 相似文献

This contribution presents coupling of laws for shear flow and wall slipping by the shear stress at the slipping interface. It includes the special case of Coulombian friction postulated by Uhland as well as the assumption of a constant sliding velocity along the flow channel according to Mooney. As an example, Ostwald and de Waele's law of shear thinning flow is combined with a shear stress of sliding depending on internal pressure by a power law. Membrane Distillation (MD) processes are gaining growing interest among novel desalination technologies, in particular for small scale applications also coupled with non-conventional energy sources. In the present work an original laboratory scale planar geometry Membrane Distillation unit was designed, built and tested for future coupling with solar energy. Though conceptually simple, the original geometry was developed in order to allow for multi-stage arrangement, compactness, internal heat recovery and possible integration with a polymeric heat exchanger for final brine heating by means of solar energy or waste heat. The laboratory scale unit was tested in order to investigate the effect of operating conditions, i.e. hot feed temperature and flow rate, on the process performance, with particular attention paid to parameters relevant to the design of the system coupled with solar energy. The scale up of solid bowl centrifuges is a major challenge as the process and material behavior are complex and difficult to describe. A common approach to forecast the process behavior is to use analytical models and transfer the experience gained from the lab to the industrial scale. In this context, time-consuming and cost-intensive pilot scale experiments are necessary. This paper presents a methodology to improve the scale up process and make it more sustainable by using a numerical model that allows the real-time tracking of the process and a more reliable scale up process. For this approach, the material behavior is derived from laboratory experiments whereby the scalability is given. Here, the determination of material functions allows an accurate representation of the material behavior for solid bowl centrifuges of different scales. Curing kinetics of a vinylester-urethane hybrid (VEUH) resin consisting of vinylester resin (VE) diluted in styrene and novolac type polyisocyanate (NPI) have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As VEUH is crosslinked via free radical polymerisation between the vinyl functions of styrene and VE, and polyaddition reaction between the secondary -OH groups of VE and -NCO of NPI, it was necessary to study these reactions separately. This was achieved by studying the curing with and without incorporating the NPI. The curing reaction was monitored by measuring the heat of reaction under isothermal and dynamic temperature conditions. Models describing the curing were developed, which are in good agreement with the experiments. A comparison between the curing of the VEUH and the VE resin without NPI leads to the conclusion that the curing of the VEUH as accessed by DSC is dominated by the radical polymerisation of styrene with VE although the two reactions are not time separated. 相似文献
