CNPC to Restructure Its Natural Gas and Pipelines Business

China National Petroleum Corporation （CNPC）, the country＇s largest energy producer, is seeking to combine units to create a single gas company to compete with private rivals, ahead of an inflow of Russian fuel at the end of the decade. According to the plan which is under consideration, CNPC＇s Hong Kong-listed unit Kunlun Energy Co. Ltd. is likely to buy unlisted PetroChina Kunlun Gas Co. Kunlun Energy is CNPC＇s main commercial gas supplier in China, while Kunlun Gas distributes fuel to households in more than 100 Chinese cities.     

Rapid Deployment Morphology

This paper presents a model of morphological analysis which, unlike practically all other approaches to computational morphology, does not rely on a large dictionary of stems. Consequently, the effort to acquire the static knowledge sources for systems based on this model is significantly smaller. The model is motivated by engineering concerns: the considerations of economy and efficiency led to the use of non-traditional definitions of morphemes. The model has been implemented in the RDM system in the framework of the Corelli project at CRL. It was initially done on Russian material and then successfully applied to Serbo-Croatian. Examples in this paper are mainly from RDM-Russian.

Fermentation Studies on the Traditional Russian Drink “Sourish Shchi”

The fermentation process for the traditional Russian drink Sourish Shchi was investigated in order to better understand the original process, its flavour products and to investigate opportunities to improve the process. The six ingredients usually employed for the Sourish Shchi preparation (Shchi in Old Russian means “Six”) were: three kinds of malt — barley, rye and wheat; one kind of flour — wheat or rye; buckwheat and honey. This wort, composed of malted and unmalted grains, was traditionally fermented with a mixed culture of bacteria and yeasts to achieve the desired sourness, alcohol and flavor. Laboratory fermentations were conducted using traditional recipes and the fermentation parameters were examined.
