Distinction can be drawn between three types of letter sorting machines and these types can also be used to classify other kinds of machine and task. In one type (‘paced ’) the speed of operation is set by the machine : in another (‘ unpaced’) the speed is determined by the operator's own actions, and in a third (‘ lagged ’) the speed is determined by the operator, but a minimum time (a ‘ time lag ’) has to elapse between one operation and the next. The performance of 7 operators on a lagged letter sorting machine was observed over a period of 9 months. Records were taken of mean sorting rate, and of the distribution of sorting times. Practice effects are shown to have been continuing at the end of this period, and it is argued that the distribution of sorting times has been affected by the machine' lag. By assuming a distribution that would be expected if there were no lag, tables are presented which estimate what the sorting rate would be (a) if there were no log at all, (b) for different values of lag and (c) for different values of paced rate. 相似文献

Hand signs are considered as one of the important ways to enter information into computers for certain tasks. Computers receive sensor data of hand signs for recognition. When using hand signs as computer inputs, we need to (1) train computer users in the sign language so that their hand signs can be easily recognized by computers, and (2) design the computer interface to avoid the use of confusing signs for improving user input performance and user satisfaction. For user training and computer interface design, it is important to have a knowledge of which signs can be easily recognized by computers and which signs are not distinguishable by computers. This paper presents a data mining technique to discover distinct patterns of hand signs from sensor data. Based on these patterns, we derive a group of indistinguishable signs by computers. Two experiments investigated the effect of making errors during training (error training) on a driving simulator versus learning from examples of errors (guided error training) on driving skill and confidence. Experiment 1 indicated that compared with errorless learning (where participants drove through a training run not designed to elicit errors), error training led to significantly better transfer to driving tests that were analogous to those situations encountered in training and more effective use of strategies for coping with a novel driving situation. Error training also reduced self-confidence in driving skill at the end of training relative to errorless learning. Experiment 2 provided weak evidence of the superiority of guided error training over errorless learning (where the driver in the video did not make any errors) on analogous tests, and no evidence of transfer to a novel test. Furthermore, guided error training did not influence self-confidence in driving skill. The potential value of driving simulators in providing active processing during driver training is discussed, along with the effects of passive and active exposure to errors on driver confidence. 相似文献
