Reorganisation and evolution of class hierarchies is important for object-oriented system development and has received considerable attention in the literature. The contributions of this paper are: (1) a formal study of a set of extension relations and transformations on class hierarchies; (2) a presentation of a small set of primitive transformations which form a minimal and complete basis for the extension relations; and (3) an analysis of the impact of these transformations at the object level.The study leads to a better understanding of evolution and reuse of object-oriented software and class hierarchies. It also provides a terminology and a means of classification for design reuse. The theory presented in this paper is based on the Demeter data model, which gives a concise mathematical foundation for classes and their inheritance and part-of relationships. The objective of this study is to explore the possibility of capturing the reasoning process used in bidding a hand in a bridge
game by an artificial neural network. We show that a multilayer feedforward neural network can be trained to learn to make
an opening bid with a new hand. The game of bridge, like many other games used in artificial intelligence, can easily be represented
in a machine. But, unlike most games used in artificial intelligence, bridge uses subtle reasoning over and above the agreed
conventional system, to make a bid from the pattern of a given hand. Although it is difficult for a player to spell out the
precise reasoning process he uses, we find that a neural network can indeed capture it. We demonstrate the results for the
case of one-level opening bids, and discuss the need for a hierarchical architecture to deal with bids at all levels. 相似文献

Problems in engineering design often involve determining design variable settings to optimize individual product performance
for multiple criteria, which are often in conflict. We review mathematically rigorous techniques from the statistical literature
for finding a vector x of design variable settings, which produces an optimal compromise solution among a group of prioritized response variables.
The best compromise solution is typically gained by optimizing an objective function, which incorporates the prioritized demands
of multiple responses. Since most multi-response objective functions are constructed by combining the functions used to optimize
univariate responses, a review of the prominent univariate approaches is presented first. A multivariate approach from the
engineering literature called the compromise Decision Support Problem is also reviewed. Finally a table comparing the relative
merits of the different multivariate approaches summarizes the article in a concise and user-friendly fashion. 相似文献

Until now, in many forensic reports, the failure cause assessments are usually carried out by a deterministic approach so far. However, it may be possible for the forensic investigation to lead to unreasonable results far from the real collapse scenario, because the deterministic approach does not systematically take into account any information on the uncertainties involved in the failures of structures.Reliability-based failure cause assessment (reliability-based forensic engineering) methodology is developed which can incorporate the uncertainties involved in structural failures and structures, and to apply them to the collapsed bridge in order to identify the most critical failure scenario and find the cause that triggered the bridge collapse. Moreover, to save the time and cost of evaluation, an algorithm of automated event tree analysis (ETA) is proposed and possible to automatically calculate the failure probabilities of the failure events and the occurrence probabilities of failure scenarios. Also, for reliability analysis, uncertainties are estimated more reasonably by using the Bayesian approach based on the experimental laboratory testing data in the forensic report. For the applicability, the proposed approach is applied to the Hang-ju Grand Bridge, which collapsed during construction, and compared with deterministic approach. 相似文献
